You need a hub that allows power like the one I have. It will charge the phone/tablet and display out with two USB 3.X ports and ethernet. I use it with Switch, Steam Deck, and Dex. Works great with all of them.
I’ve had several usb hubs that work great on my Mac and iPad Pro but either display wrong or just flat out do not work on the Deck. I have resigned certain hubs to just use on my Mac / PC and use the one that worked ONLY on my Deck.
Best course of action would be to get another hub and try it.
i got mines from amazon. currently $45, apparently when i got it i got it for $43 lol
works like a charm but for me the main appeal of the official dock is the stand for the deck
(in case you don’t wanna deal with the link here is the full title as is on amazon to look up yourself
USB C Hub Multiport Adapter, Dockteck 7-in-1 USB-C Hub with 4K 60Hz, 1Gbps Ethernet, 100W Power Delivery, SD/TF Card Slots, USB 3.0 5Gbps Data Ports, for MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iPad Pro, XPS)
Hey I have this laptop and originally purchased a cheap USB-C hub and it actually fried my USBC port surprisingly. So I had to get a second laptop and this is the upgraded USBC dongle I purchased: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08SLS9W72?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Hope this is helpful. I don't know if this is a trustworthy device but it's worked well for me. I did go through the reviews to see if anyone had a similar issue like me and fried their USB-C ports or had any issues. The reviews were pretty positive besides the dongle breaking after 2 months and being a lemon. I purchased it for $35 plus a $5 coupon and I think it regularly sits at $45.
You'd be using a USB-C dock with USB power delivery passthrough. Something like this. The original power adapter or another 45w+ USB-C Power adapter would plug into the hub, the hub plugs into the deck, and the deck charges with the pass through power from the dock. There are tons of docks out there, I've found that this one works perfectly well for me and I've had zero issues with it so far.
With the desktop mode, you have the ability to use both the deck's display and an external one, and I'm fairly sure you can connect two HDMI displays in addition to the deck's own screen, but I don't have a dock with dual display outs to test this. With a Bluetooth or USB mouse and keyboard, it works out fairly well as a desktop machine. Using it by itself with a stand and a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard isn't what I'd call ideal, but it's definitely doable if you really need to. Is it the best solution for a portable computer? Not really. Is it pretty rad that your handheld game console can also be a full on computer if you need it to be? Hell yeah.
I've confirmed that you can use and install apps to the SD card on the Dock-Teck DD0003 without any issues. I formatted it in the Deck SD slot then installed it in the dock. For me, when installing from Epic game launcher, the original SD showed up as drive D: and the 2nd SD showed as drive H: Had no issues installing or running from either location while docked.
I just received this usb c hub (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08SLS9W72) today and this started happening when I started using it. It only seems to happen while docked and it's not only when opening up games, it sometimes let's me into games for a tiny bit and then crashes and sometimes it crashes on the homescreen. I tried both stable and beta branches and both of them did this. Is it something with the usb c hub I got, or something with my deck?
Nice. I may have to ask a friend to print this. According to one of the questions on the hub's amazon page, it should work for the Aluminum version of the dock as well. There are two versions that are basically identical aside from materials used. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08SLS9W72/
If you only need one monitor this Dock is reasonably priced and works fantastic.
I got an Anker Nano II 65w power brick, and a 100w ten foot USB C cable from Anker as well. Way more juice than the Deck can even use, so the Dock and peripherals get plenty of power too and there's never a situation where you're playing a heavy game docked and the battery is draining instead of charging or running off passthrough above 90%.
When the Deck isn't plugged in it doubles as a super fast charger for anything USB C lol. Charges my Google Pixel in 30-35 mins from dead, lol.
Yep. The dock I'm using works through DisplayPort 1.4 apparently. Surface Pro X is even on the table as compatible devices.
USB C Hub Multiport Adapter, Dockteck 7-in-1 USB-C Hub with 4K 60Hz, 1Gbps Ethernet, 100W Power Delivery, SD/TF Card Slots, USB 3.0 5Gbps Data Ports, for MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iPad Pro, XPS https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08SLS9W72/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_NK3Y2YWTR3J4WHCP1Z5P?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
It may be an issue with the usb-c hub that you are using. I have had zero issues playing on my TV in game mode other than the small black bars to the right and left of the game screen.
My setup is a 4k LG TV, or a 1080p portable monitor, the game running in game mode at the same settings I use when playing on the Deck's screen, my usb-c hub when connected to the TV and just a usb-c to usb-c cable when connected to the portable monitor, and I always have fsr turned on and sharpness set to 3 (it upscales the 720p/800p image from the Deck when connected to the TV or monitor). The link to the hub I use is below.
I use this one and it works great. It doesn't have everything you are wanting but at your price point you probably won't find every feature that you want. I'd expect that you'd be paying more than double your budget for those features.
I've had a lot of success with this hub and have been using it for several weeks.
USB C Hub Multiport Adapter, Dockteck 7-in-1 USB-C Hub with 4K 60Hz HDMI, 1Gbps Ethernet, 100W Power Delivery, SD/TF Card Slots, USB 3.0 5Gbps Data Ports, for MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iPad Pro, XPS https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08SLS9W72/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_5HSQXNV4DG2PYSZ2QCK4?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Sorry for the delayed response. I've been using this hub for several weeks and without issues. I get power pass-through and hdmi simultaneously, ethernet works perfectly, and anything I've attached has worked. I do have it powered with a 65w power adapter instead of the charger that came with the Deck, not sure if that matters or not but just an FYI.
The Anker 7 in 1 works but you currently will need the beta version of Steam OS for it to properly work. I'd personally suggest this hub, it works much better than the Anker and doesn't need the beta OS.
I don't know if anectodal word of mouth is enough for you but I've been using the "Dockteck 7in1 multiport adapter" and it's working fine including power, 4K HDMI, Gigabit ethernet and using the extra USB slots for peripherals.
https://www.amazon.com/-/en/dp/B08SLS9W72/
That said, it's charging slower than with the charger directly connected so theres some power loss. Still enough to keep charge while playing though.
Honestly that's kind of a niche hub and you could end up dropping more money into your setup and and still not work. The Deck's software in its current state is very limited on support with usb-c hubs and you may have a hub that's not supported by the Deck. I have personally tried 5 hubs before finding one that actually works. The one that I use and I can confirm that it works and works well is:
USB C Hub Multiport Adapter, Dockteck 7-in-1 USB-C Hub with 4K 60Hz HDMI, 1Gbps Ethernet, 100W Power Delivery, SD/TF Card Slots, USB 3.0 5Gbps Data Ports, for MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iPad Pro, XPS https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08SLS9W72/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_WG6FSKNS25PCQXNAPXTX?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I have tested a few hubs and this one by far gives me the best performance. Out of the five I've tested one doesn't work at all, one works with HDMI but no power pass-through at the same time and three work as they should but this one gives me a higher rate of charge while also having everything connected.
I'm using this hub and have no issues. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08SLS9W72/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_FFB71BBEPGJ3G2HMYZNW?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
It charges while providing hdmi out and also has ethernet. I also have a mouse/keyboard connected and have the full pc experience. Not sure if it matters but I'm also using a 65w power brick with a 100w rated PD cable and an 8k rated hdmi cable.
I tried the 7-in-1 hub from Anker and got no power pass-through when using HDMI. That hub seems to be PD 1.4 instead of PD 1.2 which seems to be the difference between having the ability to charge while playing on a TV and not being able to. I just received this hub today that is also working great.
I have a redmibook pro 14” with amd ryzen 7 5700u, if i bought lg monitor without usb-c, wouldn't it be a problem to connect this laptop to the monitor via hdmi 2.0? The notebook probably supports HDMI 2.0. Alternatively, I wanted to buy a usb-c adapter that supports 4k 60HZ. USB-C adapter
The difference in the price of a LG monitor with usb-c and ergo and without usb-c with a classic stand is 230 $ in Europe.
Yes I am looking at the gig speed. Before I used WIFI because the ethernet port on the DS is just 100m so it sucks.

Iam looking at this and wondering if it will work for 1140p and the gig port.
There are literally tones of your required adapters in Amazon for a wide range of pricing. Your not looking for anything too crazy so most of them will do.
Something like this should do: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08SLS9W72/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_CX91EVX4B4NGV3YP8ETF
The USB C hub: USB C Hub Multiport, Dockteck 7-in-1 USB C Adapter with 4K 60Hz HDMI, 1Gbps Ethernet, 100W Power Delivery, SD/TF Card Slots, USB 3.0 5Gbps Data Ports, for MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iPad Pro, XPS https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08SLS9W72/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_69K1TVE99P6J4GAN5W1X

Well, in case anyone else's interested... something like this:
https://www.amazon.com/Multiport-Adapter-Dockteck-Ethernet-Delivery/dp/B08SLS9W72/ (or this https://www.amazon.com/Lemorele-Multiport-Adapter-Ethernet-Delivery/dp/B09WMNMJ4R/ )
I've provided links from the US Amazon, but you can find them in the European Amazons as well.
I have zero issues with my gofanco. I hear there are two versions of gofanco, one is the 4k60hz model and the other is the 4k120hz model. You want the 60hz one.
Using that with this dock
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08SLS9W72/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
results in no image issues for me anyway. I think the choice of dock is more forgiving than the choice of HDMI->USB converter (gofanco/siig). I only chose this particular dock because of the ethernet out and M1 Mac compatibility. Works great on both my Mac and Steamdeck with the Nreal + Gofanco. Kinda squid like for cable management but it does the job.
I'm using this dock with my gofanco and it works perfectly fine. Charges my deck while gaming and no latency issues. I only picked this one cause I wanted something I can use with my M1 Mac when I want to hardwire to my router cause my wifi can't keep up with my Gigabit fiber connection. It works great on my Steam Deck too!. I'm like a five year old in a candy store with these glasses on!

I wouldn't get that one as the HDMI is only capable of outputing 4k @ 30hz. The one that I'm using (as well as others) with the goFanco HDMI to USB-C dongle is the DockTeck hub which outputs HDMI 4k @ 60hz:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08SLS9W72?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Sorry DockTeck not Tech Dock.
I’ve been using a dock Velcro’d to a cheap stand. 2 months so far and no problems other than software stuff on valves side (that’s been fixed). 63 USD all said. Obviously got all this stuff before the official dock came out, but it works!
I have tried about 5 usbc hubs from anker to jaux.
My favorite was a 3d printed dock with this usbc hub https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08SLS9W72/ref=cm_sw_r_apa_i_2G32X871M9GP2G72M8WM_0?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I agree with your concerns about couch co-op not existing on the ps5! The extensive indie library on Steam was one of my main drawing factors to the Deck - and the advertised ability to dock it and play from the couch.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08SLS9W72?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Link to the Dockteck adapter because I got it and it works great!
I'm doing so using the following components:

Works perfectly.
Although you will need a pd charger, the one that comes with the steam deck is 45w and the docks need 15w themselves so it won't be enough.
And I printed a dock someone made for this USB c hub so it all looks pretty https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5422982
And and just for ease of use I use one of these USB C adapters https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0B18WJS6K?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
A quick skim of that page and I couldn't see any information about whether it's 4K30 or 4K60, so I'd assume the lower and pass on that one personally.
I just had a quick look on Amazon.com for you and I'd probably go for this one.
I searched for '4k60 usb c hub power delivery' and there are plenty of others though. I'd personally be looking for 4K60, 65w+ PD (power delivery), gigabit ethernet, and a good selection of ports, particularly a fast microSD post which the above has.
This is the one I’m currently using with my MBP and will use with the Air too
It was this one, which had good reviews and worked well except for this issue:
I use this Dockteck hub and it’s worked great for me. It’s a little more expensive, but also has Ethernet and SD card reader.
Recommended by devs of Proton iirc, and me too after having it for several weeks now:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08SLS9W72/ This one has worked for me.
Needed to change to the beta branch and use my 65w laptop charger to get it to charge as fast as the charger included with the Deck.
I'm using this one and everything works, it also doesn't require the use of the beta version of the OS.
This hub has been working perfectly for me for weeks now and without needing the beta build.
Anyone tried this [dock](www.amazon.com/dp/B08SLS9W72/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_dl_MHPZHW8X2Q0NSRSTX64N)
Sorry for the german amazon link, but here you go
Theres only one HDMI and nothing else for video output though.

this looks good althought its not usb3.2, i dont find one with these specs + usb3.2 speeds
Thanks, I use the Dockteck 7-in-1.
