They will, however, need an active dongle or cable for it. I have this cable: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075V27G2R/ - I only use it for 1080p60, so you may want to ask the vendor if they support your display configuration. It allegedly works for 4k60, so it may work for 1440p 21:9 100Hz. Best ask there.
If the blade has a thunderbolt 3 port then the "UNI thunderbolt to displayport cable" is perfectly capable of doing . That's That's cable I use with my legion y740 (rtx 2070) and I don't get any lag or latency while getting a solid 240hz.
Here's an amazon link for it: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B075V27G2R/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_imm_37G5JG2Y03BHHHRMRKCJ
Hope this helps!
Just some 2 cents. I recently got a monitor for my 3070 G15 which is the Gigabyte M27Q 1440p 170hz. I use a USB-C to display port cable which caps at 165hz. The biggest limitation you will have is how you’re connecting the two. Also, remember the hz will only matter in gaming if your computer can produce that many frames per second. Right now I’m maxing at 120fps in Cold War with settings on ultra so the monitor will only display 120hz. To achieve 240fps you’d have to seriously downscale some games.

Do you have two Thunderbolt ports or four? Are you using a dock? If you have available ports on the macbook you could go with thunderbolt/usb-c to display port cables.
the graphics will depend on your model of specter as there are several now with various strength graphics cards.
HTML cable will get you to 60fps if you will need something like this cable to or a dock to get the 75fps your monitor supports, assuming your monitor has a display port.
I'm using https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B075V27G2R/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_1f7zFbCPXD5AZ and it works perfectly to my Acer Predator 32" 4k
I can't see any obvious reason the cable doesn't work especially if it works from your phone to the same monitor

I do not notice any input lag at all. I did do some googling when I first got the monitor to change the settings on the monitor to what others suggested but I can't find exactly what forum that lead me to.
I'm using this cable with my Vector Pro 2. I do get a windows notification saying that my display connection might be limited, but I haven't noticed any issues both while gaming and not gaming. I'm connected to a 27 inch HyperX monitor.
I currently use my M1 MBA with a 1440p 165Hz ASUS monitor, and I'm taking full advantage of it. You'll need to grab a USB-C to DisplayPort cable, as a USB-C to HDMI won't let you run your monitor at 144Hz. I've been using this cable for around 5 months and have had 0 issues. There are plenty of similar cables, just make sure that they are able to run 4K @ 60Hz / 2K @ 165Hz. That is what you should be looking for in the cable description, as well as it being Thunderbolt 3 (minimum). Hopefully that helps.
I missed that the U3011 monitor would only do 1080p via HDMI in your initial comment. That's my bad.
I know it involves buying something else, but this might work?

Some extra info just in case I'm missing anything, I'm on the latest bios and AMD drivers (clean install and set to Standard profile).
And I'm using this cable:
https://www.amazon.com/DisplayPort-uni-Thunderbolt-Compatible-More-Gray/dp/B075V27G2R
I have a work-issued 2019 16" MacBook Pro with Thunderbolt 3 ports, and it's been a hot mess trying to get the TS4 to work with two displays at 4K60. I've tried every combination of ports and cables, and I can't get both displays to run at full resolution and full refresh rate. The same setup works fine with an Elgato Thunderbolt 3 dock, so I know it's possible.
The monitors are both HP Z27k G3 that have DisplayPort and USB-C inputs. I'm using Uni USB-C to DisplayPort cables, and this is what I've tried:
TS4 DisplayPort | TS4 Thunderbolt 1 | TS4 Thunderbolt 2 | |
---|---|---|---|
Attempt 1 | DisplayPort | USB-C to DisplayPort | |
Attempt 2 | USB-C to DisplayPort | USB-C to DisplayPort | |
Attempt 3 | DisplayPort | USB-C to USB-C | |
Attempt 4 | USB-C to USB-C | USB-C to USB-C | |
Attempt 5 | USB-C to DisplayPort | USB-C to USB-C |
CalDigit support has asked me to update the firmware on the monitors, so I think they're just grasping at straws now.
The HP firmware updater requires Windows---I don't have access to a Windows system. The firmware release notes don't mention anything about DisplayPort---oh, and this setup works fine with a different dock. CalDigit has also asked me to test with different 4K monitors. Ah, yes---let me just fetch two different 4K monitors from my monitor stockpile.
I get the impression that CalDigit hasn't tested the TS4 at all with "older" Macs (if the previous-generation MacBook Pros can really be called old).
I got the flickering issue figured out: it happens when I set brightness to full. My guess is that this is due to power consumption of the monitor. But when I connect the charger to it, it just goes dark.
Also, I tried this USB-C to DisplayPort cable, without luck. Connecting any monitor with it to the dock results in blank screen - with or without monitor charger.
I guess that my options are:
I tried USB-C to DP - this one to be specific. No luck - both monitors present me with a blank screen, with or without a charger. Not even "no signal" message.
Right now I got it working by connecting one directly to the laptop, and the other to the dock. Not ideal but it works.
The annoying thing is that I'm not able to connect the monitor chargers at the same time - the screens just blink with respective manufactures logos.
Power provided from the dock to one of the monitors doesn't seem to be enough as I can only operate on 60% of brightness - anything above that makes the monitor cycle on and off.
>Try running DDU in safe mode and then reinstall your graphics card software while your USB C monitor is still connected.

I plug the cable directly from the back of the laptop into my my monitor. I don’t have a caldigit. It works fine but according to the spec of the cable, it is 2k @ 165 hz or 4K @ 60.
I can only use the Thunderbolt 4 port on the back and the Thunderbolt 4 port on the left side (non-camera shuttle side) for display output. The right side port is USB 3 for data only.
I’m pretty sure the Legion 7i 11th gen intel cpu has HDMI 2.1 by the way

Let me doublecheck your setup on the R6. However it would have to be USB C from laptop to Displayport Cable.
According to the manual, you have a usb c with display port. Which means, your discrete gpu is connected directly to that usb c port on the back.
So you need to use the display port on your monitor, and the usb c on your laptop. Reason why, is the LG probably doesn't have display port gsync options in their usb c port.
> i currently use a 2017 macbook and im going to cut it short by saying that its hard to connect those to monitors via display ports.
Not hard at all, just grab a USB-C -> DisplayPort cable, eg this one at Amazon UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/DisplayPort-uni-Compatible-MacBook-Surface/dp/B075V27G2R?th=1
NAH though since it's all been resolved pleasantly!

I had a similar problem. Solution for me was to abandon using hdmi as the input to my Samsung monitor of the same resolution and use DisplayPort. This is what made the difference regardless of hub or adaptor. One cable that was usb c to DisplayPort did the job on its own(not the other way around, be careful as the cable is not necessarily bi directional)

If you are talking about a USB-C cable to connect to the monitor, I use this cable on the Dell monitor and my Alienware ultrawide.
I didn't go with an adapter because it ended up being something I left plugged into my monitor anyways. However, this brand does have an adapter I believe.
Just in case anyone has this question in the future, I have my monitor (AW2521) hooked into the laptop with a DisplayPort to USB-C cable and gsync works without issue!
Here’s *the cable I’m using for reference.
If you have amazon can return if they do not work. Those cables do sound like the one I bought however so maybe that is not the fix? This one here is the one I use. I also have the monitor set to 120hz mode explicitly (its per input so DP 1 remains at 240hz and DP 2 is at 120hz). Also turn off adaptive sync in monitor
No, that is an HDMI, you want an HDMI to HDMI cable (the regular type) for the sceptre and a thunderbolt to DisplayPort for the asus Looks very similar but the technology is different
Regarding a Thunderbolt Dock I don't really have a recommendation, you'll have to do some research yourself there.
Regarding the cable, I use this one and it works perfectly (Don't know if it's available outside of Germany): https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B075V27G2R
Tried both ports neither is giving me a signal.. I'm going to try buy another cable although I pretty sure thecable I bought should work fine as another user on here uses the same cable!
Oh, right, I misunderstood what you were asking. The dongle is the limiting factor, but I do believe it is its own GPU as I said. I could be wrong on that. If you just need another monitor port and your beefy GPU has USB-C, you can get something like https://www.amazon.com/DisplayPort-uni-Thunderbolt-Compatible-More-Gray/dp/B075V27G2R and get 4k60hz
Oof. Well Unfortunately that's out of my depth there. What I can offer is I have used this USB-C to DP connector and it appeared to work okay. The specs say it should handle 2k up to 165hz.
>LG 32UL750-W
OK so I just looked up your monitor. If you are going Type C to Type C USB connector, it's probably acting as a dock in the same way as mine is crashing my computer. Perhaps you want to try a Type-C cable to the Display Port or HDMI. Similar to this:
https://www.amazon.com/DisplayPort-uni-Thunderbolt-Compatible-More-Gray/dp/B075V27G2R
I am using a dell s3220dgf which is a little like the budget G7. I recommend it. I have turned on freesync on the monitor and on my laptop.

I got this USB-C to Displayport cable.
It works brilliantly. Far more reliably than via any dock.
My view is that a 4K video out is a big burden and I'd rather give it a dedicated cable and use a dock for everything else.
Case in point, I've got two USB C docks that support 4K/60.
Both work, but have occassional tiny dropout under load - nothing serious. Whereas the USB-C to Displayport is perfect. And for my Pixelbook, it ONLY supports 4K / 60 with DisplayPort.
So I connect one of those two dongles (Soho at home, Apple out and about) with power passthrough from the official Apple adapter and dedicate the second USB-C port to video.
And no, it doesn't charge a laptop.
Which is fine, because I'm not a fan of cheap power solutions and would rather power my Macbook with the official, over-capable Apple adapter than via an inbuilt screen's dock.
I have the U2719DC connected to my 9550 using a USB C to displayport cable. It's an issue with the 9550. I used this back when I had a Max-17 2020. I recently sold it for the 2021 Max-15, which I plan on using this same cable to connect it to my monitor. This cable worked perfectly with my Max-17 2020, when connecting it to my 3440x1440p 144Ghz monitor (Asus G34W). No flickering, tearing or misc graphical issues. Worked well with freesync as well!

to be honest I've never needed to convert displayport to usb c so I'm not so familiar with the process. 'Converters' may have been the wrong word, but there are cables. Do these do the trick?
You need a Thunderbolt to display port cable. Cable Matters makes one so does uni. I have a 2018 mini and mini are notorious for issues over hdmi both the color space issue as well as retina.
The following cable is one I use.

Thank you for the suggestion.
I’m afraid it seems it’s the M1 that’s causing the issue, regardless of the USB-C to DisplayPort cable.
I was looking the UNI cables here: https://www.amazon.com/DisplayPort-uni-Thunderbolt-Compatible-More-Gray/dp/B075V27G2R
They work perfectly on any other Mac, but the M1 always goes to YPbPr regardless of the cable and type of connection.
I appreciate your suggestion though and this cable seems to be a good recommendation to get once they fix the issue. Hopefully in a next update.

I have an i7 2018 Mini working with the AOC Agon 49 at 1520x1440 - 60Hz. I'm using this USBC-DisplayPort cable. For this to work I had to install the beta version of Big Sur (now employing the released version). Catalina and previous versions of the OS would not support this resolution on the Mini, but it might be hackable using Big Sur resources.
Programs like SwitchResX make it much easier to employ this solution, and I highly recommend it.
The AOC will go to higher refresh rates, but the video hardware in the 2018 mini won't at this resolution.
This monitor looks nice in this mode, but I couldn't recommend it due to the many issues it has with features like PBP (unless they do an update), although it has a longer warrantee—which is why I bought it over the competition. The Samsung employs the same panel, and is probably a better monitor for the same money, and likely the way I would go today.
With something like this
Unless you need the power and data transmitting (which I am not sure the USB-C ports on the GPU can do) getting USB-C to some kind of display cable is your only option.
Late response I know...and I'm assuming you meant to type "using a USB-C to DP cable", but I got my G-sync monitor to work this way yesterday, full G-sync, 1080p @ 144Hz.
My GPU is an RTX 2080 and this particular monitor is a G-Sync Monitor (i.e. not the G-Sync compatible ones), but you should be good either way once you get the right cable. I do however have 3 Freesync (G-sync compatible) monitors connected on the 3 Displayports running in surround and G-sync and they work just fine too.
The cable I used is this one; the box says it does 4K @ 60Hz and the company rep said on amazon it can do 1440p @ 144Hz as well: UniAccessories USB-C to DisplayPort Cable
I'm not sure if store links are allowed here but this is the one I bought. It's this company called "uni accessories." I'm not sure how reputable this company is, as they're certainly new to me. Do you think this could be the cause, and if so, is there a recommended brand?
Perhaps it's worth noting that I previously had another issue with this new machine and cable, which is that whenever I woke the laptop from sleep while in clamshell/connected to monitor, audio would not be transmitted over DisplayPort. I'd have to completely restart the machine in order to get audio back. This was fixed with 10.15.6, though.
Depends on the monitor you got, but almost universally monitors allow higher refresh rates through displayport. I have an LG 32gk650f monitor that allows 144hz over displayport, but only 100 via hdmi so i use a usb c to displayport cable from my gs66. this is the cable i have..
Also, this laptop does support gsync/freesync but you have to use a displayport cable if your monitor is even capable of it.
So just from what you’re saying. A USB to display port cable could work like this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/DisplayPort-uni-Compatible-MacBook-Surface/dp/B075V27G2R
If I had a similar (or even same cable for my macbook) - would I have to swap them over as there’s only one ‘display’ port on the monitor? (but 2 hdmi’s)
It looks like there is a thunderbolt/usb c port on it. Can you get a usb-c to display port cable.

Had the same issue. If you are pushing 4K certain docks might not work doing 4K at 60hz. I had to just get a DisplayPort to usb-c cable and go directly from the monitor to the computer. Kinda stupid but I’m not aware of another way to do it outside of trying a different docking station.

No. Check the description and reviews of whichever cable you are going to purchase, but generally speaking, a usb-c to DisplayPort cable capable of 4K@60 can also do 1440p at 144hz.
For example, this cable linked below states that it is capable of 1440p@165hz.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075V27G2R/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_k9.kFbH29G6JN
okay that’s good to know it goes up to at least 144hz with displayport. i’m planning on buying the cable above in my other comment. i figure that should work fine right?
edit: This cable
I'm not sure. I haven't hooked it up to an external monitor yet.

Thanks for this response. I’m also working off of a 16” MBP (side note: absolutely the best computer I’ve ever owned) I’m looking at the Acer VG280K at Costco, I’ve noticed on a few of these lower end UHD displays that HDMI 1 only supports 4k30 and HDMI 2 supports 4k60 while the DP is 4k60...I have no idea if that’s the case with this one, but I want to make sure I’m going into this and not going to regret it.

I'm running this monitor with a MacBook via USB-C. I picked up this cable on Amazon to connect from USB-C to Displayport. I also had to use SwitchResX to select the higher resolution. My machine can only drive this resolution at 75hz, but it is working great.
Yeah it's something like this https://www.amazon.com/DisplayPort-uni-Thunderbolt-Compatible-Pixelbook/dp/B075V27G2R , not the exact one i have.
Not sure if that's where your issue comes from though, maybe try to play around macos and see if it's using your radeon or integrated gpu to actually render the desktop and/or output video to the external monitor and see if you can change some settings based on that.

I have the 560X and just tested this out last week with a Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C connector) to Displayport cable and with some graphical tweaks the game runs anywhere between 135-144fps on my 144hz monitor (game capped at 144fps). Not sure how much faster the 560 is over the 555, however I hear they are very similar. This was also running the native Mac version, I assume the Windows version will see slightly better results.
If you're going to be at a desk with a monitor, as someone suggested, an eGPU would probably be a good idea.
EDIT: Here is the cable I'm using
I can’t speak to docks, but my USB-C to DisplayPort cable is from Uni (Amazon Link) and supports display to display pass through so you only need to plug one thing in for both monitors.
Gsync at 1440p@144hz works great
Exactly! Here it is. Cable

Something like this works perfectly fine, just don't expect thunderbolt speeds for anything else other than outputting to a 2/4k monitor.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075V27G2R/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
this is the cable i'm using BTW
The cheaper route is to go with a Thunderbolt 3 to DisplayPort adapter. Found this Thunderbolt 3 to display port cable on Amazon - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075V27G2R/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza for $17. Not sure if it'll work with the Rift S. I did a search on Amazon for HDMI to DP adapters and the only adapter I found for HDMI 2.0 to DP 1.2 for 4K@60Hz was this one https://www.amazon.com/SIIG-HDMI-DisplayPort-Converter-60Hz/dp/B07C39QBSF, which costs $150. What graphics card does your G5 have? Mine has a Geforce GTX 1060 6 GB with Max-Q, the HDMI 2.0 port on it goes to the GTX 1060 and works with the Rift CV1. I'm not sure if the Thunderbolt 3 port on mine is connected to my GTX 1060 when used with a Thunderbolt 3 to Display Port adapter, which is the cheaper option.
https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/samsung/ue590
Rtings does pretty comprehensive reviews. At the bottom, the "Compared to other monitors" suggests a few better monitors in the $300 - $400 range.
Budget and 4K don't usually go together. Depending on what you are doing, you might get a better experience with a lower resolution, higher quality display.
The included dongle will only do 4k@30Hz. You should have better luck with a thunderbolt to displayport cable. Something like https://www.amazon.com/DisplayPort-uni-Thunderbolt-Compatible-More-Gray/dp/B075V27G2R
For your 1440p monitor, you can use any USB-C to HDMI/DP adapter, for ur 4k tv you are going to want to get a USB-C adapter with Thunderbolt 3 so you can archive 60hz (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075V27G2R/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) for example or you can get a thunderbolt 3 dock
I've got the same panel. Great monitor. I know any usb-c to DP cable should get you 144hz, but I use this one with my M1 MBA and it's been great.
Its a USB Type C displayport -
https://www.amazon.co.uk/DisplayPort-uni-Compatible-MacBook-Surface/dp/B075V27G2R
SHOULD allow you to connect to your monitor using the DP on it.
I believe it’s this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/DisplayPort-uni-Compatible-MacBook-Surface/dp/B075V27G2R
I’ll confirm 100% tomorrow but I’m 99% sure it’s this exact one.
Display port over usb C.
One of these should do the trick.
https://www.amazon.com/DisplayPort-uni-Thunderbolt-Compatible-More-Gray/dp/B075V27G2R
I'm using this one and haven't had any issues, but I don't see why any of the ones you linked shouldn't work. They all look very similar.
this is the usb c to DP, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075V27G2R/
this is DP to DP, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07J2PGGFX/
Yeah no problem. So my first adapter is this Apple HDMI adapter. For USB-C to DisplayPort there are a lot of options, I just went with a couple of these. Seems to me with 2 USB-C to use there shouldn't be a problem trying to accomplish your original ask without anything too fancy.
Hey thanks for the reply
Am using this dock with the provided cable - it don’t actually say if it’s a 40gbps cable but I guess this is something I can try? https://www.razer.com/gaming-pc-accessories/razer-thunderbolt-4-dock
The cable I am using is uni USB C to DisplayPort Cable 1.8m(4K@60Hz, 2K@165Hz) Thunderbolt 3/4 to Display Port Cable, Aluminum 144Hz DP Cable Compatible with MacBook Pro/Air, M1, iPad Pro/mini 6, XPS, Surface Book 2 and more https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B075V27G2R/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_HR0VNZ7NBA29F78GRW37?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 - one connected to each display.
Cables work fine at 4k 60hz if just one is plugged in it’s only when it’s them both in one drops down to 30hz.
I will try grab a TB to HDMI cable to see if that helps atall.
Thanks Marc
Normally you use an USB C to DisplayPort Cable or adapter which is capped at 240hz@1080p
USB C to DisplayPort Cable and Cable Matters USB C to DisplayPort 1.4
Could be the dongle. I'm using a USB-C to DP cable to use mine with a 165Hz external display. I've had mixed experiences using combo dongles/docks for gaming, so I prefer a dedicated USB-C display cable (something like this is what I'd look for HDMI-wise). I then use have a high-speed USB hub connected to one of the USB-A ports on the back, which connects an ethernet dongle along with other stuff.
I’ve bought this cable for my company/employees 50+ times and have never had a problem. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075V27G2R/
Dude thank you! i ordered the cable a couple days ago and got it today and i must say... you were 100% right!!!! tysm man
I bought this one!
USB-C to DP. I have a pair of these going to the pair of Dell monitors in the original picture I posted.

Hopping in here, I also did research about this 2 months ago when I got my 5 pro. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075V27G2R/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08BLJX9PB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I picked both of these up and they work perfectly for my 1440p 144hz monitor. I've just started using the cable instead of the adapter as ill keep the adapter in my bag if I'm going out.
Just got this one in yesterday... worked out of the box on my L5Pro
This is the one I got: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075V27G2R/
I got this one, works perfectly.

55” LG C9 OLED here. Reporting in, yes I can confirm 120hz at 4K HDR 10-bit Color is drippy. You need a proper HDMI 2.1 cable I’m using the HDMI cable that came with my PS5 *drip
And via Thunderbolt 3 to DisplayPort 1.4 144hz 1440p HDR looks magnificent
With the right cable. Link below double drip.

Yes. This cable should do the job. No adapter needed. It’s USB-C to DisplayPort.

This one:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075V27G2R/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I don't remember why I chose exactly this one, but it works well. Quality is also nice, it's braided. But I think any cable would work
This is the one I bought, it's coming tomorrow.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075V27G2R/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_TAXQP2FCPS5S2NDPG5YJ
Probably you can use Type-C adapter or cable (e.g. Type-C to DisplayPort, if your monitor has DP port) to connect the second monitor. According to the PSREF it has USB 3.1 Type-C Gen 2 / Thunderbolt 3 (w/ the function of Power Delivery and DP). But I would really recommend buying the docking station and use the laptop docked.
the usb-c to DP i bought was: https://www.amazon.de/dp/B075V27G2R
But I don't have at hand, which hdmi and the hdmi-to-DP adapter I used, they were bought 1~3years ago, i think.
But the new one I bought, which should arrive tomorrow was dp ti dp-mini from Kabeldirekt. https://www.amazon.de/KabelDirekt-DisplayPort-Thunderbolt-Aufl%C3%B6sung-Verriegelung/dp/B082VBG76V/ref=mp_s_a_1_12?dchild=1&keywords=kabeldirekt%2Bdp%2Bto%2Bdp%2Bmini&qid=1615980742&sr=8-12&th=1&psc=1
it should have 19 pins.
And depending on your needs, you can even get a cable instead of a dongle.

I had the same problem, until i bought this
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075V27G2R?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
that is the cable that I use and it works really well for me
I only have a 60Hz adaptor, but if you're going to buy this monitor, just buy a fast usb c to displayport cable such as this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/DisplayPort-uni-Compatible-MacBook-Surface/dp/B075V27G2R/ref=pd_lpo_328_t_0/262-8634321-5940814?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B075V27G2R&pd_rd_r=2f235df7-6897-44a5-9d01-751b2cde3744&pd_rd_w=dkmoW&pd_rd_wg=MZU4K&pf_rd_p=7b8e3b03-1439-4489-abd4-4a138cf4eca6&pf_rd_r=360C6WXK8C9CS83AC3B8&psc=1&refRID=360C6WXK8C9CS83AC3B8
I wanted to update that I ordered one of these from Amazon and have been using it since Saturday. I haven't had it kernel panic yet so I am thinking it was my Cable Matters USB-C to DisplayPort adapters that were causing the issue. I tried with both this one and this one. I am going to hypothesize that it is because the cable matters ones are built to allow charging a laptop or phone as well through usb, which is a useless feature when used on the Mac mini.
tl;dr: Don't use a cable or adapter that has anything other than USB-C on one end and DisplayPort on the other with this monitor and the Mac mini.
Oh really? Wow. I’ve tried like probably 6 different hdmi cables, problems all the time. Now I’m using this USB-C to Display Port adapter, purchased from Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/DisplayPort-uni-Compatible-MacBook-Surface/dp/B075V27G2R
But even with that one the issue happen.
Also, get yourself a USB C to displayport cable, Hdmi only supports 120hz max.
Hi! glad to help, if I can.
Well, I'm using the box cable, which is a thunderbolt that reaches 20gbps. I have it directly connected to my mbp 2018 15", no issues with the max resolution and refresh rate. Nevertheless, I'm using https://github.com/xzhih/one-key-hidpi to scale from 1440p and make the font rendering acceptable (2752x1152@100hz).
I don't recall using the HDMI that came in the box, but in case you're planning to use it keep in mind most adapters and docking stations struggle to reach 60hz, so I believe most of them won't ever give you 100hz.
I'd suggest you to try either a usbc-dp cable or another thunderbolt (preferable T3). Let me know how it goes!
Please see these images:
I'm using this cable: https://www.amazon.com/DisplayPort-uni-Thunderbolt-Compatible-More-Gray/dp/B075V27G2R/
Are you on the latest version?
It should work. My guess is that the cable is old or not compatible. I did a quick search, I think something like this might work.
https://www.amazon.com/DisplayPort-uni-Thunderbolt-Compatible-More-Gray/dp/B075V27G2R/
Hi there. I don't think you'll be able to find an external monitor that does the exact thing you are talking about-- receive 144hz video over a male to male thunderbolt usb type c cable.
Current generation gaming monitors are designed around using the DisplayPort connector. The HDMI connector cannot do 144hz at 1440p. G-Sync and Freesync usually only work over Displayport. Usb-c video is a relatively new thing, and it has had almost zero impact on the pc gaming space.
Monitors that have the thunderbolt input will usually be designed for Mac users and office workers primarily, and thus they will all be 60hz displays.
The good news is that you can easily get a cable to connect the thunderbolt port to the displayport on a monitor. For example, this one I found on Amazon. Both the user and manufacturer state it can do 144hz at 1440p. Many others like it will be compatible too.
The bad news is that you will have to plug in your laptop separately,.
Another thing-- you don't need the PPI to match the PPI on your laptop at all. You will be able to send video to the display without it being mirrored on your laptop display. 1080p and 1440p gaming monitors will both work fine, although I anticipate your laptop having to work harder than usual (meaning, fans at full blast) to run games at 1440p.
Also, get a Gsync monitor since your laptop appears capable of working with G-sync. https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/9bw2se/possibile_to_get_gsync_with_laptop_to_monitor/
I use this USB-C to DisplayPort cable.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B075V27G2R/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Use a USB-C to Displayport cable. I bought this one and outputs 60H on 4K with gsync support to my monitor.
I am running a very similar setup to what you described with my G14 currently.
My main display is a Dell SD2716DG running via this Displayport to USB-C cable through the USB-C PD Port at 2k 144hz.
My secondary display is a Dell SE2717HR running via the HDMI port using a regular HDMI 1.4 cable at 1080p 75hz.
On the right USB-C Port, I have this hub: Uni USB-C Hub with an ethernet cable & two USB-As.
It's not technically a dock, but it definitely works.
I'm going to be using 3 of these cables, one for each thunderbolt port.
My monitor is 1440p at 144hz so temps might be different for other people but it’s definitely better than hdmi https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075V27G2R/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_JIxyFbBVAWSBC
USB C to DisplayPort Cable for... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075V27G2R?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
use a USB-C cable to DisplayPort direct. Don't use that adapter, you can find those cables for around 15. something like https://www.amazon.com/DisplayPort-uni-Thunderbolt-Compatible-More-Gray/dp/B075V27G2R/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=usb+c+to+dp&qid=1596424506&sr=8-3 will work better
So my 240hz monitor has Hdmi 2.0 and DP 1.2.
do you think this cable would allow for up to at least 120hz from the 16” MBP
Sorry but can you clarify? I've been reading through this sub and others all morning trying to find a thread that actually makes sense in terms of what cables or adapters I need and which connections to use on the mini and monitor to make this work.
Also, here's the cable I'm currently using:
im using a usbc to displayport cable i could not find a reliable hub that worked and the cable is not expensive https://www.amazon.de/dp/B075V27G2R/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_T0PdFb4T5X3PY
^(Hi, thanks for answering. I've edited my post to specify the cables are actually TB3->DP (it's this one) ^(https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B075V27G2R/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) ^())
I got it working, then restarted and stopped working again when I messed with scaling settings. Now it's working again...
What I've had to do is unplug both, connect and make sure they're set to Default resolution.
Then I've set scaling to 250x1440 on both screens. So far it's keeping both at 60Hz but let's see next time I restart...
I am using this with USB-C to DP port cable and able to achieve 5140X1440 upto 75 Hz. bought in amazon but cant use KVM as USB C is now used for DP port which negate the alt mode.
My Laptop is DELL Lattidue 7490 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075V27G2R/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Your best bet is probably going to be Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/DisplayPort-uni-Thunderbolt-Compatible-More-Gray/dp/B075V27G2R
If you just need monitor output, I’d go the cable route and forgo adapters. From a quick look on Amazon I could find a USB-C to DisplayPort for £19, and USB-C to DVI for £17. Both decent brands.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/DisplayPort-uni-Compatible-MacBook-Surface/dp/B075V27G2R
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cable-Matters-Thunderbolt-Compatible-MacBook/dp/B07C8HJVK1
I've previously used https://www.amazon.com/DisplayPort-uni-Thunderbolt-Compatible-Pixelbook/dp/B075V27G2R/ref=sr_1_3?crid=2PVLFMLY6VK66&keywords=uni+usb-c+to+displayport+cable&qid=1558535187&s=electronics&sprefix=uni+usb-c+%2Celectronics%2C147&sr=1-3 which I can't imagine is that different from the one you posted. In fact the first review specifically calls out my monitor.
I am in the same boat. I originally bought a multi-port hub (display, usb A, etc.) but it only has one usb-c pass through. Since it was HDMI and my monitor (Dell P2715Q) does better at 60hz 4K with Display Port, I decided to get a Display Port to USB-C from Uni. It works great, super responsive. I was getting a slow input rate before from HDMI and this SMKLink hub.

But now I am faced with having to plug in two things to "dock" at my desk, and of course have used both ports used on the pixelbook. So I think, oh that's easy. USB-C can chain, I should just find a usb-c to multiple usb-c hub so I can plug in power, and the display port alt usb-c wire all at once. No such luck. Can't find anything.

Does no one make?
/------USB-C USB-C <------>|-------USB-C ------USB-C

Your best bet is to use the usb-c port. I personally use the TB16 to hook up my 144hz monitor since it has a Displayport, but since I assume you don't want to spend $200 I found a usb-c to displayport. https://www.amazon.com/DisplayPort-uni-Thunderbolt-MacBook-Pixelbook/dp/B075V27G2R/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1533239716&sr=8-3&keywords=usbc+to+display+port
This can output . Reviews have also stated that it can support up to 165hz at 1440p. Hope this works out for you
That information is false.
Like I said, I figured it all out already (above your post)
I've talked to someone with the same model Surface Book 2 as me and they're able to achieve 144hz with a single monitor using a DisplayPort to USB-C cable.
Going off of that, I've based my setup as such:
https://pixiogaming.com/products/new-px277
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075V27G2R/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PC07T02/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
This setup will allow me to do 1440p @ 144Hz, Gigabit Ethernet, hookup for my Wireless Gaming Mouse and Mechanical Keyboard, and charging (through the surface port)
I don't know why this is downvoted, comparable monitors from what I've heard are even more expensive than the Mac monitor, so ouch.
The other reason I wonder though is that this is still a display using standard connections (TB3 rather than DisplayPort, but adapters from DP to TB3 are available), so you can use this on a typical PC.
