You would need some OTG cable to connect a class-compliant USB accessory such as the following to your smartphone and it should work. I have not tested it myself though, as I’m fine with the Bluetooth connection. I don’t experience any latency at all, so I’d suggest you give that a try
If you're talking about a cable like this then I would think that would work fine. Even though it has two midi cables coming out, you would just plug the "in" cable to the midi out port on your keyboard.
Hey guys, hope you're doing well.
I'm going to post some questions here because I'm absolutely lost about gear, I apologize for bothering you 😅
I'm a pianist and composer building my own home studio. I usually just record pianos using a MIDI controller with Logic Pro X. I have an M-AUDIO Keystation 49 but I'd like to use my CASIO CDP 100 as a Midi controller. My Casio doesn't have USB output but it has MIDI. I saw this cable on Amazon. If I buy it can I use it with my CASIO to plug it into my computer? Or do I need to buy a MIDI interface too?
And I have another question about audio interfaces too. My budget is $100-170 to buy a new one. I've been considering these models:
PreSonus iOne 2x2 USB
Behringer U-Phoria UM2
Behringer U-Phoria UMC22
Focusrite Scarlett Solo (3rd Generation)
Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 (3rd Generation)
Note: It's important that the interface has drivers compatible with Mac OS Catalina 10.15.6
I'd use it mainly to record my voice and maybe an electric guitar. Not at the same time. I have a condenser microphone and sometimes I do covers singing and stuff. I'd record an acoustic guitar too but through the mic, since it has no line. And my voice for a Podcast too.
I've been reading about the 4i4 because it has midi ports, would I need that one if I want to use my Casio CDP as a midi controller? or the MIDI cable would be enough?
Thanks!
No worries!
I googled your keyboard and see it just has the traditional style MIDI plugs, and no MIDI via USB built in. But that’s ok! All you need to do is get a MIDI interface. I found this on Amazon for around $15:
USB IN-OUT MIDI Cable Converter, LiDiVi Professional Piano Keyboard to PC/Laptop/Mac MIDI Adapter Cord for Home Music Studio - 6.5Ft
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071KLC884/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_ZtUfEbTKFTGQ5
I don’t have any experience with this specific product, but it would seem to do all you want, for using your keyboard as a MIDI controller (there are more fancier types of interfaces, but no need for overkill for now, I reckon). You’ll also need a USB A -> USB C dongle to plug this into your new MacBook Pro (you probably already have some of these to attach older USB devices anyway).
Once attached, you should see your keyboard available as a MIDI controller inside software like Garage Band or Logic. Then you can select the virtual instruments inside the software and play notes using your Yamaha (you’ll want to mute the internal speakers of the keyboard, of course) and hear the music on your computer. (You might need to use the MIDI Setup utility inside the Utility folder (inside Applications) if your keyboard doesn’t automatically show up in software.)
Hope this helps, and best wishes to you on your journey of creativity and expression!
> The only thing i think the uMidi might have over the midi-2 is the usb midi input
Glad you mention that. I have found that a USB to MIDI cable to solve that particular issue. That's a big difference in price, but I can't blame you if you go Intellijel, their stuff is top tier!
USB to Midi. Direct from computer to volca fm not through Keystep at all. The Volca FM is the only volca that can receive sysex programs since its based off of the DX7

I got this one from Amazon: usb midi Super easy works great.
I do MIDI through a MIDI to USB cable and bypass my interface. I use a mixer rather than a dedicated interface as you're looking at (it does live sound also, but has a USB out). MIDI to USB cable is the simplest way and you don't have to worry about wither the audio interface has MIDI.
This is the one I bought:

There are others too, but that works as well as I could need it to and it's cheeeeeeaaaaaaap compared to an interface upgrade.
Hey maybe this isn't the right thread but I have a question. I have an octatrack I want to use to sequence multiple things, including hardware synths. One of those things though, is my PC. I'd like to connect via midi to ableton to sync a clock, and maybe some basic transport functions. I bought a usb-midi cable for this purpose, that has a little processor right on the cable.
this one. But the issue is - it doesn't work with a midi thru box (midisolutions I believe, the normal quadra thru one everyone has). Any recommendations? It works fine with just the octatrack, but when I connect the output to the quadra thru and the input to the octatrack it doesn't work.

if it's unclear:

octatrack out - quad - (hardware synth, synth, usb cable)
octatrack in - usb cable
I would get one of these:

Use that to connect the JV 1010 to a USB on your computer. Connect the midi controller to your computer via USB. Any reasonable DAW should then allow you to select channels and patches on the JV 1010 directly from the DAW without having to mess with the interface on the JV 1010. As someone mentioned above, you can have up to 16 individual tracks playing on the JV 1010 simultaneously as long as you don't max out its polyphony. No need to get the JV 1010 audio into the computer at this point. Just use headphones or some cheapo computer speakers. Since you only have one instrument, the mixer isn't really necessary.
I bought this best seller one on Amazon that has mostly all positive reviews link

According to forums, my phone (pocophone) should support it by default and i did not find any setting that relates to it. Maybe the USB C adapter is problematic but i can not understand from product description
On Amazon's US store listing for the same cable, there is a worrying percentage of 1-star reviews. Even the description there alludes to something along the lines of "the last time we tried to sell a cheap cable, everyone complained about incompatibilities, so here is a new revision that should fix some of the problems..."
Judging from the 1-star reviews, there might still be some problems remaining.
The first page of this forum topic has a few interesting links that dig into why some of this happens. To cut costs, these manufacturers are omitting several components from the circuit specified by the MIDI Manufacturer's Association. So, while they might work with some (tolerant) hardware sometimes, you can run into strange situations where plugging the exact same adapter into a different device (or even just a different port) will yield negative results instead.
I picked up this jawn to dump sysex patches to my FM and so far it's working fine. Can't speak for long-term uses but for $15 I'm happy with what I got.
