Saw these folks at Bay Area Maker Faire.
Had a very uncomfortable conversation with them regarding the shortcomings and lack of advantage versus the competition.
Edit: I have been very happy with this Anker usb charger, which provides similar current, without an external adapter.
If OP plans to go with your 6 Chromecast idea, he should definitely buy one of these as well and avoid using six different USB power supplies to run all those Chromecasts:
https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Charger-PowerPort-iPhone-Galaxy/dp/B00P936188/
I use something like this.
USB Wall Charger, Anker 60W 6 Port USB Charging Station, PowerPort 6 Multi USB Charger for iPhone Xs/Max/XR/X/8/7/Plus, iPad Pro/Air 2/Mini/iPod, Galaxy S9/S8/S7/Edge/Plus, Note, LG, HTC, and More https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00P936188/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_u9tzFb3N9B3SD
This. As an electronic engineer I am always weary about cheap 3rd party power adapters, that said I have taken one of these apart https://www.amazon.com/Anker-6-Port-Charger-PowerPort-iPhone/dp/B00P936188/
I was impressed on how well it was made. The secondary and primary side filtering was really good. They do use generic Chinese capacitors is my only major concern. All safety features are good as well including proper isolation tracks in the pcb and the such. The soldering and build quality are as good as many 1st party adapters I have taken apart. The other plus is they are ul listed so I mean they had them tested for safety. I have bought about 30 of these at work and 2 personally and they all have worked. They also tend to power the boutiques just fine as well as my ultra nova. The only device I had issues with is my cdr70. For some reason you can hear switching sounds / ripple when using this adapter. Then again on,y my official apple charger for my iPad Pro has not had this issue with the 70cdr.
Get a multiport charger like the one you linked except DON'T CHEAP OUT ON IT. You are plugging in like $500 worth of stuff so why buy a cheap no name adapter? Get something from a reputable brand and I would get something with more ports than you think you need. I like Anker's stuff (I have one of their chargers with 2 Type C and 2 Type A ports and I have some of their car chargers) and have been thinking about getting this for similar reasons as you.
I get that.
That's why everything that could be run via a usb (5v) brick is run off a single Anker charger.
The big bricks you're seeing are from proprietry things like my NVR and radio scanners. Unfortunately the Pi 4's went bigger PSUs and messed everything up.
Your third link isn't to a power source, it's just another sign, but these generally help. To be safe, I think you should consider a self-powered multiport hub instead of a single USB port. It's likely you'll just exceed the 2A max for most USB chargers if you're trying to power all 5 from one port.
I don't think it would be wise to power 10+ devices off of a single charger (as others have said you need a multi-device charger not a hub, most hubs don't provide power when disconnected from a host device). I would recommend something like this Anker 6 port one. It provides 60W total which is a good watt to port ratio and it would be cheaper to get 2 of them than any of the 10 port models I have seen from brands that I would actually trust (there are cheaper no name brand ones with 10 ports, but they have lower watts per port). I think this is the same one I told my wife to get for iPad charging in her classroom and they worked good for her and I have been planning to get one to power my Super NT, Mega SG, MiSTer, and RetroTINK.
Here's the USB Type-A version. It's pretty cool for what it is.
A little bulky for travel, but that's pretty good.
This is the old one I have, or the six-port version of it anyway. Very compact. What'd be perfect is one that is that size.
You're right, "hub" isn't the correct word... I'm not looking for a USB device that handles data, I just want power. But "station" kind of implies something that's big and stationary, and I'd rather it was more of a thing you could throw in a suitcase or overnight bag.
If they're not all running full power (graphics outputs, etc.), you're unlikely to ever max out the 15W power budget. What you've linked will probably work, but I use something like:
https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Charger-PowerPort-iPhone-Galaxy/dp/B00P936188?th=1
There are plenty of less powerful USB chargers out there. Maybe something like this would meet your needs? Each port has a max output of 12w (or probably 10w of you're using all 6), but that adds up over 8 to 12 hours, and ought to be enough to charge most personal electronics.
But if you forget to charge them overnight, you'll need to find something much faster in the morning.
You didn't link to anything.
As long as you aren't trying to run a bunch of stuff off of the same one at the same time you should be fine with something like the Anker 60W 6 Port USB Charging Station. If you are using wireless controllers or Everdrive the power draw is a bit higher than what Analogue recommends though. The one I linked will drop down to 2.4amps per port is you are running them all at the same time and I think you need around 3amps to power a Super NT with wireless and an Everdrive correctly.
Non-affiliate link: https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Charger-PowerPort-iPhone-Galaxy/dp/B00P936188/
Provides 2.4A per port, and with a little overhead by only plugging in 4 or 5 Pis, I think you'd be fine with anything short of building a storage cluster with multiple SSDs plugged into each Pi.
How many ports do you want? I have one of these in our living room where we charge most of our iPads, iPhones, and my AirPods as well.
I am a huge fan of Anker products.
I use a multi USB like this one by my bedside and when traveling. I like all of Anker's USB chargers I've owned. You could do a search at Amazon for Anker USB and find quite a few of their chargers that would easily charge your rg351p. I bought a second rg351p as a gift - that's why I picked up the cheap 2-pack which also works fine to charge the handheld.
More like some units given that all model lines other than the 8gb of ram model have both a v1 and a v1.1 version and there is no difference in the external branding between 1 and 1.1.
To be fair it works because it's cheap and opted to forego USB PD compliance and e-marking.
Having said all of the above: You are absolutely correct. I'm running several rpi4 off one of these but I don't think I'd be willing to recommend anything but the official power supply for the typical beginner.
Depending on the devices and/or requirements (usb plugs) look into something like this Anker product. They're perfect for things like Pi3 and below as well as similar SBCs.
Get one of these from Anker. It's smart about the output so it won't overpower a device. Just get one of these and then it's available for other things you might need to plug in too.
Also, they're INCREDIBLE for travel. Leave your plugs at home and just bring cables.
I have purchased this multi-port usb charger to charge my Switch Pro Controllers.
When I connect the controllers to the charger, they do not start charging automatically. I have to press the sync button on the top of the controllers while they are connected to the charger to start the charging process. Pressing the sync button is not required when charging with the Switch dock or the single-unit charger I use for my cell phone, they both start charging the controllers automatically.
I would rather not have to press the sync button after connecting my Pro Controllers. Does having to do so have to do with the fact that I'm using a multi-port charger, or that all of the ports are IQ Charging compatible? Or any other reason you all might now about?
Given that the power adapter is only 1000ma, I'm going to go with no.
Most motherboards only put out 500ma (half an amp). Some motherboards and USB hubs can output upwards of 2.4a on a USB port but this is pretty uncommon and would be advertised on it's features.
I'd guess that these ports are likely limited to 500ma and with the adapter you'd be sharing ~1400ma between them. It would also likely require being plugged into a system to do anything.
What is your end goal, what are you looking to charge? There are likely some better options such as this product, assuming you don't need data connection. https://www.amazon.com/Anker-6-Port-Charger-PowerPort-iPhone/dp/B00P936188
Well there is a 60W 6-port intelligent charger for less money.
As for the sleek? Guess that is a matter of opinion.
That's really a review of different name brand charger for different model phones. I really want a recommendations for a third party charger that is abviously a third party charger, such as a Griffin, Belkin, Anker, PowerGen, etc.
I'm thinking about getting one of these:
http://www.amazon.com/Anker-Family-Sized-Desktop-Technology-Motorola/dp/B00P936188
Just need to know if it will charge a Blackberry.
Just buy a dedicated charging hub from Anker instead. https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Charger-PowerPort-iPhone-Galaxy/dp/B00P936188
Cool, but seems like a bulky solution when these deliver the same current per port with no UL concerns.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00P936188/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_tRvaDbTBMXNBX
I have 2 Anker 6 port USB power supplies:
https://www.amazon.com/Anker-6-Port-Charger-PowerPort-iPhone/dp/B00P936188?th=1
They also make a more cost-effective 10 port: https://www.amazon.com/Anker-10-Port-Charger-PowerPort-iPhone/dp/B00YRYS4T4/ref=dp_ob_title_wld
I haven't tested this yet, but I would guess that a parent who is saying the battery is drained while plugged into power is not using the adapter that came with the iPad.
Suggest setting the screen brightness to the lowest practical setting (it took months for my daughter to realize that the brightness didn't need to be at 100% all of the time and she would get way more "game time" —this was a personal iPad, not a school iPad—between charges if she lowered the brightness).
We gave each classroom teacher two extra chargers for students that needed to top off.
Similar options would be something like a charging stand, or multiple-port charger for classrooms.
Obviously you have to preach to students that they need to come to school with the iPad fully charged, that's just classroom management stuff.
For mandated state testing, we always have extra iPads ready to go for these types of "issues".
We have not needed to deploy charging stations, and I think we would push back on the classroom management angle before we went that route.
Grades K through 2 are not taken home, so those classrooms have charging carts.
Based on the picture, looks like it's something like this. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00P936188/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_QEhaGbW2ZZ3S8
I have a similar setup and bought one of these chargers
It really cleans up that tangled mess
I have so many things that need charging that I went with an Anker PowerPort and for the PDM I use an Anker USB-A to USB-C cable. Anker makes really good quality products.
You bought a data hub, but you need a power hub. This is closer to what you want:
https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Charger-PowerPort-iPhone-Galaxy/dp/B00P936188
It'll give you up to 12 watts per port, per the USB standard (5 volts @ 2.4 amps)
Keep in mind that the Raspberry Pi 4 is rated to use up to 15 watts. If you have the 2nd revision of that board, it will work with any certified USB-C charger for 5v @ 3a (for 15 watts) so you might look into a combo device, something like this (but not necessarily this):
Another vote for Anker products here. I have one of these for powering my gaming stuff that uses USB Micro/Mini plugs (Super NT, Mega SG, RetroTINK, mini consoles, other 5V or less stuff) and I actually own two or three of these now (one or two of them might be the older version). I use the second one as a charger for my phone, laptops, Kindle, Switch, controllers, and whatever else and I carry one with me when I travel since it can charge just about everything.

The support FAQ feels very lawyery. Most charging ports don’t exceed that. A cheap Apple 5V works fine as well.
I’ve been traveling with this for many years.

I also have the Minix. If I'm taking a laptop that can charge via USBc then the Minix works great.

I prefer the Anker because it doesn't take too much room at the outlet and I can have the brick on the desk top or table top and it's easier to reach the USB ports.
I have my Pis plugged into an Anker power brick via USB. That way it's only using one AC plug.
Sorry, I thought I provided the link. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00P936188/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=A1KWJVS57NX03I&th=1

I don't know how useful this would be for you, but I use mine on the daily.
I just use one of those Anker USB power hubs. Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Charger-PowerPort-iPhone-Galaxy/dp/B00P936188
I already have this https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Charger-PowerPort-iPhone-Galaxy/dp/B00P936188 guess that will have to do? I need to see if my bike computers even fast charge.
I did recently change mine…. But to this USB Wall Charger, Anker 60W 6...
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00P936188?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Can’t imagine it’s the issue…
I have one of these I am planning on using it with. USB https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00P936188/
Think it’ll work alright?
For power, I tried a powered USB thing by Anker https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00P936188/ I don't recommend this option as I got terrible performance and when I replaced that with CanaKit power supplies https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07TYQRXTK/ my woes went away.
PoE is great but expensive for what I wanted to for the price. I am sure if someone purchased the right switch, PoE hat and cables it would do well. It was just out of reach for my budget on this build.
My case is by C4Labs it is called Cloudlet https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D5NM9ZG/ this has fans in the back and I like it very much. It is shown in some shots with a switch in the bottom of case. I couldn't find a good switch that would fit the needs, and the space. My switch is Velcroed to the top.
For backups I use GCP storage (S3 compatible) for media and config files, and gitlab for my repos.
Thanks for the questions!
Hi guys I've bought my first Switch last week and Im loving it so far. My question is: can I charge my switch with this charger or it's not safe?
https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Charger-PowerPort-iPhone-Galaxy/dp/B00P936188
I’ve been looking for something similar. I’ve come across a few recommendations of things like this 60W wall charger.
I’ve since opted for the more DIY route and ordered something similar to this buck converter which I will power from an old laptop charger or something along those lines. You might need one that has a higher output rating, or a few of them to power 4 pi’s, but you could definitely rig something together

I have a bunch of Anker 60W 6 Port USB Charging Station. Note that my devices are pretty vanilla — so other than compute, doesn’t require much power.
I chose against PoE due to the additional heat being generated with 14 devices. I have a few SensorPush devices in the shelves to alert me when temps increase beyond 90F.
I guess so, but it would be cheaper and easier to go with something like this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00P936188/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_FAG40SYP57YNRG1YKX39
Look to Anker for all things USB https://smile.amazon.com/Anker-Charger-PowerPort-iPhone-Galaxy/dp/B00P936188/ref=sr_1_15
Will an Anker usb hub port with a Usb-a to Usb-c cable work as well as a 61W apple adapter to charge my macbook pro 13” touchbar?
Hi, my macbook 61W charger just went bust. And I’d been thinking about getting this Anker Usb hub so that all my charging needs are in a single place:
I’m thinking if I buy a usb- a to usb-c cable:
and connect to the aforementioned usb hub, I don’t have to buy a new 61W macbook charger and my life is fixed forever? 🧐

Here's one on Amazon (it does have a small light but you should be able to cover that up really easily with a piece of electrical tape or duct tape): https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Charger-PowerPort-iPhone-Galaxy/dp/B00P936188/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=USB+charging+station&qid=1588566131&sr=8-3

Also if you have a computer, you could plug your devices into that (assuming you have low-amp devices like a phone.

My FiL uses these for his home project clusters with raspberry pi's.
It looks like you have a lot of devices that are USB powered or charged, you could consolidate them into one charger. Preferably one with adaptive fast charging like this one but with a Euro cord.
I'll try an Anker bought one of these cause it was on a lightening deal today: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00P936188/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The others I've got might be cheaper brands I'll have to check
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00P936188/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i3EvBb57WC1DV Will the switch accept this as a dock charger? I’m looking to simplify my travel bag.
Get something like this, and some 3M double sided mounting tape, and just tape it on.
If I'm going somewhere and need to bring alllll the things:
Anker 6 port USB charger:
Anker powerbank:
(2) gopro dual battery chargers
(4) gopro batteries
(1) Hero5 (this is my main camera)
(1) Hero4 (this is my "eh, if it breaks/gets lost I'm not worried" camera)
(1) karma grip
(3) USB-C loooong wires
(2) MicroUSB loooong wires
If I have time to plug them all into a wall, then everything can pretty much charge at once. If not, the powerbank does a pretty awesome job for on the go charging.
Remember, the Grip will charge the Hero5, so 1 usb-c to the grip saves me a wire and allows both to charge at once.
Here's the 6 port charger: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00P936188/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Here's a 2 port charger if you don't need 6 ports: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LFL2JB6/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
And here's a 4 port car charger: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00SSMRB9A/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I've had the 6 port charger since 2015 and it's been fantastic since day 1. I've been able to charge both my phone, tablet, battery pack, 3DS, and run 2 Pi's at once. The 2 port charger is also good and I keep it in my travel pack with my battery packs.
I would also recommend picking up 2 3 packs of cables from Anker if you plan to use all 6 ports: https://www.amazon.com/Anker-3-Pack-PowerLine-Micro-USB/dp/B015MJLEUS/
For mobile applications or if you need to use your Pi on the go, I highly recommend the Kevlar cables as they are fantastic.
I swear I don't work for Anker, I just love their products
I got this (below) and a USB-C cable as I don't have anything else that uses USB-C.
prolly not much help but, the new anker chargers can power a macbook i think. 30mins left to get it tomorrow.
https://www.amazon.com/Anker-6-Port-Charger-PowerPort-Samsung/dp/B00P936188
I think using your Anker 6 Port Charger would be okay over night, as long as your Anker 6 Port Charger is always plugged in.
Have you been using your Anker 6 Port Charger for a long time? The reason I ask is that I just bought an Anker 6 Port Charger that included a USB-C output port, but if your Anker 6 Port Charger works well enough maybe I'll cancel that order and just order an Anker 6 Port Charger instead.
How many power outlet do you need and are they for USB charge?
I always bring this one to charge my USB devices : https://www.amazon.com/Anker-6-Port-Charger-PowerPort-Samsung/dp/B00P936188/
Or you can find something with both power outlet and usb charge:
https://www.amazon.com/Upow-3-Port-Travel-Charger-Outlets/dp/B01GY3B834/
No worries, I have an Anker charger like that and it is awesome.
We have a multi-outlet plug that also has two USB chargers. It provides surge suppression, four outlets and two USB ports. It's always in use, either by my family or guests, so I'm about to swap it out for an in-wall solution like you're talking about so we won't have that bulky box hanging there. I ordered four of them today that I plan to install in strategic locations.
Yes, USB C can, in theory, deliver a lot of power, but there is zero guarantee that devices with USB C ports will actually support any higher amperage. So far, none do. These plugs are not expensive enough, at $20, that you can't replace them if the standard changes enough that you care.
If you're really concerned, get a good desktop USB charger instead of a wall wart. You can get them in a variety of styles, they support some truly awesome wattages and you can get them with all the latest fast charging specs. Though I've had amazingly good luck with Anker products, this Aukey one looks great if you want QC2.0 compatibility.
I was thinking of doing something like this with my old security system wiring. Got side-tracked with other projects, and never followed up, though.
As for the charger, I was thinking of just using a commercial USB charger with multiple ports (something like this) with the expectation that all the USB smarts would be included in the charger, and the security system wires to the keystones would just act like long usb cables.
You might run into problems with transmission losses (voltage drop across a long conductor) at some point, though. I believe the official USB spec maxes out at 5 meters, which is not very far when you're running wires through walls.
EDIT:
The longer I think about this, the less comfortable I feel. I'm not an electrician. I like the idea, but I don't want to be even partially responsible for anyone starting a fire in their walls. Just buy a conventional USB power adapter and a usb/lightning cable for the locations you feel the need to charge your phone.
I've been thinking and researching on this a bunch over the last week and I think I've figured out what my layout is going to be.
Heavy gauge IEC cord from the wall to http://www.auberins.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=7_43&products_id=306
Then wire in http://www.auberins.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=7_32&products_id=360 (so I have a master switch on the entire table, which will default to be turned off if it loses power)
On the inside, I'm going to go with a standard GFI two-outlet socket in a box.
One of the sockets will have a plug that splits off to two of http://www.auberins.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=7_43&products_id=274
and the other will go to the USB brick (http://www.amazon.com/Anker-PowerPort-Charging-Multi-Port-Charger/dp/B00P936188/) which will, in turn go to two of http://shop.ocp.com/product.sc?productId=303&categoryId=-1 and two of http://www.amazon.com/Itian-Wireless-Charger-Samsung-Qi-enabled/dp/B00V2A5ZFW/
After more design planning, I'm actually going to have the AC and USB ports on panels that will be hidden most of the time, but have a hinged section that lifts them up and fixes them in place with a magnet. A similar idea to this but without the ugly surround, and built of wood, so it's harder to see when it's closed. I can't just do it with the cut-out piece, since the surface will otherwise be made of hardwood ply.
it's not a good things to charge a discharge the power bank constantly , so I would recommend getting a wall plug that have 5 usb ports , and plug all your devices and the power bank to it , this the plug and the is the power bank
For traveling get this , one wall plug is all you need
You need one of these.
So you only care about charging, and not actually connecting them to a computer? Get something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Anker-Family-Sized-Desktop-Technology-Motorola/dp/B00P936188

Well shoot. I order the above power supply; I will wait until it come before messing around. I think it's hard to get better than an Anker charger: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00P936188/
It's a super powered charging device, not a USB hub. They advertise that it can provide "up to 2.4 amps per port." I haven't used it for a Raspberry Pi yet, but I bought one of these on sale recently to power a bunch of Pis. This is probably overkill if you don't have 8-ish Raspberry Pis like I do. ^_^
If you don't need six charging ports, go to that Amazon page and check out the "From the Manufacturer" section. There are options for 1, 2, and 4 ports as well. Lots of people I know swears by Anker.
What do other people think? Has anyone used Anker products for their Pis?
