Did you install a VIOFO HK3 ACC Hardwire Kit? , there is one line that needs to have constant power, and the other on the acc ( car started) so it knows when to switch between modes, this device also prevents the camera from draining your battery if car is unused for a long period.
I have only searched through parked videos a couple times, and it always worked, someone stole a plate off the car of one of my coworkers, so I looked through the video, sadly didn't get the thief because another car parked next to me, blocked the view from that angle. but it recorded the whole time the car was parked.
Get the right one for your car. What it'll do it tap into your fuses to pull power but there's also a voltage cutoff that'll keep your battery from dying. Mines goes from about 12.4 - 13.4 or something.
I don't know about compatibility with your camera, but the popular one is the Viofo HK3 three wire hardwire kit.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JQ1JYPJ.
If your camera uses a normal USB mini for power, it should work, but don't take me 100% on that.
My Volkswagen has constantly powered plugs. It will do that. Maybe your car has an option to switch a fuse or something to make them only live when the car is on, but mine doesn't have that. What I did is use something like this and wire it directly to the car's electrical system.
I know that’s a voltage cutoff. I meant it had the fuses with the kit. this is what they wanted me to buy. It didn’t have the fuses with the kit. Only the wires.
Will the kit I listed in my OP work?
nice, are you using a fuse kit? i just got prime xse and plan to turn off parking mode
i only found this, how do you convert to fuse?
Thank you for your reply and idea.
It's tempting to use that overhead light cluster as it surely will have full time battery power because those overhead lights work whether the car is on or not. However, the hard-wire kit that I got from VIOFO (link below) has about 10 feet of cable before it splits out with the 3 individual wires. Therefore, finding a power source somewhere under the dash or under the center console would be preferable, as I don't want to do an ugly splice job on the cable right near where it connects to the dash cam.
There's no way you'll find a camera that will run for more than 8 hours on a single charge, if even close to that.
Cheapest + simplest way is using the cig outlet and plugging it in when you drive, and unplugging it when you park.
Wiring it to the battery is only effective with an automatic shut off. The shut off will keep your cam powered from your battery until it drains to a certain amount, then it cuts the power, letting you start the car again no problem.
Look at the side bar in this subreddit for instructions. But I bought this with a dashcam and it works fine so far.

TLDR: Yeah, worth it, set it to 12.2 and forget about it.
Asuming you are talking about something like this, it will tell the A129 to switch into parking mode when you turn off the car, and then cut power when the battery is below the set voltage.
If you are worried about wear and tear on the battery, set it to 12.4, if not at all worried and want more recording time, set it to 11.8. I'd recommend 12.2 so you don't have to worry about the battery so much, but still get a little more filming time.
There are also different types of parking modes, I have mine set to time lapse, and that lasts me my 8 hour work day. Not as much of a concern when parked at home (if it was a concern, better to have home surveillance anyway). Experiment and find the best parking mode for you.
Would this kit be compatible with the B1W?
The amazon listing of the official hardwire kit says (emphasis mine)
I got 2 a129's with hardwire kits a year ago, I love them. Make your life easy and get the right kind of fuse taps: I got ones for normal fuses and then realized both the vehicles I was installing them in use low profile fuses.
Yeah definitely. Not sure if the hardwire kits are all manufacturer specific but if you get the A129 Pro Duo, Viofo makes a hardwire kit with battery discharge protection. Then this will keep powering your dashcam until your car battery level reaches a certain level and then it turns off so that your car battery doesn't die.
My recommendation is to get one of the A119 V3's or the new A129 Pro duo and hardwire it. Specifically, get this hardwire kit: https://www.amazon.com/VIOFO-A129-Hardwire-Enables-Parking/dp/B07JQ1JYPJ/
This allows it to do exactly what you want. It will save the video if your car is hit or somethign happens, but it won't let your car battery die
What dashcam do you have? Cause here is one for the A119 V3, which enables parking mode. And yes, that's how the camera knows to enable parking mode.
Is this the correct 3 wire kit to purchase for parking mode? I feel like its missing some other things in order for me to actually hardwire it
So VIOFO has a hardwire kit that you have to put in a little bit of effort for and seems a bit much for me (since I've never wired stuff to the battery or done electrical work on my car) This is the link of the VIOFO branded hardwire kit.
If you don't want to wire it up like that, there are fuse tap kits that you just plug it into one of the fuse sockets underneath the drivers side, which seems more easy but still requires work. This is the link to said kit, although there are many others
and finally, the easiest way is to feed the cable from the camera, to the roof liner, have it route from the windshield to the A Pillar, down to the side of the car, hide the cable under the glovebox (or under the steering wheel) and plug it into the socket, I can take pictures to show you how I did it (English is my second language so I'm worried about not explaining it correctly)
You want the Viofo HK3 hardwire kit.

someone answered: The camera is rated for 5amp, you don't want anymore than that going through the fuse.
but on the dash cam page, it shows 1A, 5V

Hi, how is this different than the HK3 kit here: https://www.amazon.com/VIOFO-A129-Hardwire-Enables-Parking/dp/B07JQ1JYPJ/ ?
Sorry, trying to figure out what I need. I will be installing on a 2003 Lexus GS430.
You certainly can.

CPL Filter is a must for me and HW kit is her
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JQ1JYPJ/
I bought my hardwire separate. Got this one through Amazon.
I have the A119 V3 and love it. I don't use the polarizing filter and haven't really found that I need it. Some people like it because it makes day time license plates more readable but at the expense of night time quality. Make sure you use this specific hardwire kit though
Another alternative dashcam that is VERY discrete is the Garmin Mini. Have seen a good deal of users with it here.
So for parking mode to be activated you need to hardwire a cam with a kit that monitors your voltage. You can set the voltage for your battery which will cut off the power so it doesn't drop too low. The match up that I have is the A119 V3 with the corresponding hardwire kit and they work well together.
Sorry for the delay....the device just runs on what ever power you plug into. It is not smart enough to keep tabs on the power source. Hence, the monitor. Here is something you might consider....

Check if your dash cam has a hardwire kit that you can configure for low voltage shutoff.
This one is for the Viofo A129, configurable from 12.4 to 11.8 volts.
https://www.amazon.com/VIOFO-A129-Hardwire-Enables-Parking/dp/B07JQ1JYPJ
We typically don't recommend suction coup mounts as they're prone to vibration and fall off very easily when there's an impact (causing you to lose out on potentially very important footage).
The hardwire kit is a must if you want parking mode enabled and/or a cleaner installation (wires are more easily hidden than just using the 12V socket of the vehicle). To enable parking mode, however, you'd want to get the 3 wire hardwire kit: https://www.amazon.ca/VIOFO-A129-Hardwire-Enables-Parking/dp/B07JQ1JYPJ/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?keywords=viofo+3+wire+hardware+kit&qid=1565826580&s=electronics&sr=1-1-spons&psc=1&smid=AQXDPQN3LTP6G&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUFRNzI0WlJBT1pKME0mZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTA5NzA5MjQzVE5EMlY3REtLMEpWJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA1NTc3NTMyUEwzRkw3VjNKVTRWJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==
this is the one I'm eyeing, how do I know if it's a 2 or 3 wire voltage kit?
Appreciste the visual link! I will be sure to take a look at the manual for reference. is this the cable / transformer you were referring to?
