I can't tell from the pics alone, but it looks like he has the dual arms where one arm is a standard VESA and the other arm is just a laptop 'stand'.
If not, then there are plenty of VESA -> laptop stand products available.
VIVO Laptop Notebook Steel Tray... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00Z1VBIE0?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I wouldn't use the laptop in the closed position as the deck also dissipates heat. So I've been experimenting with a couple of different setups. One, uses a monitor arm with a laptop tray and another uses a vertical laptop stand.
I had an unused monitor arm so I just had to get the tray. It's easy to position it where you need it, move it up/down, plus the keyboard is still usable. Photo
The vertical laptop stand is cheaper but basically it stays in one spot and you'll need a separate keyboard. I have the dual slot stand with the front adjusted for the laptop in the open position and the back one for the closed laptop. Photo
You can also get a stand that holds the laptop like the monitor arm, except that it sits on the desk.
Rather than removing the battery, just keep it charged to 80% using My Asus. Even though you want to use it as a desktop replacement, there will be times when being mobile is useful around the house. If it had an externally accessible battery, then go ahead and remove the battery, but I think it's a PITA to do that regularly.
An Amazon Basics Monitor Arm + a VIVO laptop holder. I think I got the machine screws at home depot so that they would sit flat instead of being rounded.
I have this tray from Vivo. Have this on two workstations at home.
Solid as.

>Seriously nice setup, especially to be in a garage. You simply must tell me what that laptop stand is!
Sure! its the VIVO laptop tray on a VIVO monitor arm. https://www.amazon.com/VIVO-Laptop-Notebook-Platform-STAND-LAP2/dp/B00Z1VBIE0/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=vivo+monitor+arm+and+laptop%5B&qid=1617308200&sr=8-5
Could something like this work? https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00Z1VBIE0
Not sure the size of the clamp screw hole, but here is a general Wheel DIY mounting option that you might be able to adapt.
Buy this ... https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00Z1VBIE0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ... and flip it upside-down.
Then mount the Wheel to it using this... https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01KH6AYT8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Might need this to drill flush holes to allow for flush M6 screws ... https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07F68W9VP/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Install these in the desk (suggest one in front side, 2 top rear)... https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07H5Q5HFY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Drill holes in plate to match above mountings and use these... https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0769X99TJ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ... so you can quickly tighten down plate+wheel and remove without tools.
NOTE: Requires drilling into your desk (unless you want to use C-Clamps instead of #3 & #4). Have not tried this IRL, only theory, but should work. The Laptop Stand is built like a Sherman tank and has good weight to it. Might want to add non-slip pad like the bottom of a mouse mat to the underside of the plate to absorb FF and keep from micro-shifting.
Here is another option to consider...

Hope that helps.
I bought this and used it with an old VESA monitor stand I already had. Fits my X1E perfectly. You can also buy the whole thing. Also, the perforation aligns with 2 x 92mm bottom mounted fans.
