PC fans might work but you want to be able to have it powerful enough to suck the air from the box into the tent or the smells with just leak out of the little gaps and cracks. I guess it depends on the size of the box you're using. I use this fan which may be borderline overkill but it works pretty good.
I had Temps around 85F so what I did was bought a booster fan, hooked it up to a piece of ducting. I put the fan in the tent and ran the ducting to a nearby AC unit. This dropped my temp by 8-10 degrees and my humidity became easier to control.

Basically I have the tent then the duct goes direct to the top of the tent. Then at the end of the duct outside the tent I put the in-line fan so it sucks air out. Then right after the in-line fan I put the charcoal scrubber.
So in effect nothing is in the tent to clutter it and it sucks air out and blows it through the scrubber.
I have this fan in the 6” size. Realistically 190 CFM or so is a lot for this tent but I have this equipment and 6” stuff for my bigger tent that I normally run. You could get away with everything 4” in this size of tent.

You can get pens for cheap. $15 or so on amazon. You have to calibrate these more often than one of the more expensive ones like bluelab but other than that they work fine.
The Pros and Cons of either are pretty much what you would think. Buying one off amazon gets you one that's ready to use out of the box for a price, while DIY gets you something functional but need the time to put it together.
I made my own using a large clear off-brand Rubbermaid container, some basic duct components from Home Deport, an Inline duct fan from Amazon ([link]) and a copious amount of duct tape to hold it all together.

I always have two fans in there, like you do but different locations for heat issues.
Fan height adjusted so that the wind blows horizontally across the area between the light and the plants. From your pictures, it looks like you may already be doing that.
A fan on the floor of the tent blowing in the general up direction, this is to help move air around and upwards in the tent towards the exhaust.
The exhaust will/should create a passive intake through the vents below, if if it’s not enough, you could consider an active intake fan from amazon for $30CAD

not sure what power is your light... but i used a 6'' vivosun inline booster fan for my 5x5 with a 400w hps and it sucked the air out quite fast, a bit noisy should be more than enough for any hps and was pretty cheap compare to the usual inline fan.
and you can buy a speed controller for cheap on amazon too.
Best solution I’ve found is to get a grow tent and one of these coming out one of the holes sucking the air from the bottom and out the top.

I made one out of a cardboard box and some dryer ducting. I used magnets to stick it to my bathroom's very powerful extractor vent since I live in a fairly small apartment.
But if you got a ducted fan and pointed it to an open window it would probably work well.

This is the fan i use in my 3x3. $20, 6" and more than enough CFM for a 3x3, it moves air just fine for me.
As another poster mentioned, I don't see an existing vent duct. How and where that fan exhausts from the house will do a lot to determine your options.
All things considered, you're better off replacing it from below, if possible. Crawling around that attic is risky, both to you and to your home. Just crawling around on the joists could end up causing nail pops in your ceiling below. So, show this post to your wife. Or, better yet, send her this link to a video of people falling through ceilings. :)
The first step is to get that metal box out of there. I've done that before. As others noted, it's not too bad, if you use a Sawzall or a Dremel Multi-Max with a metal-cutting blade and work carefully. Take your time, look at where it's held, look at where you can get a blade in there, and try cutting through the nails and/or brackets holding the box, then remove it down through the hole. Yes, some insulation will likely follow it, so make sure you have plastic on the floor. Depending on your setup, you may have to work it free of the existing duct and or wires.
Next, you need to determine how the duct is run. If there is no duct, and your fan was just venting into the attic, then your life is going to really suck. If there is a duct, then see if it's possible to get a new fan up in there, connected to the duct, and connected to the wiring, without too much trouble. But rarely does everything work out that nicely. I've had to do some odd tweaks, like drilling new mounting holes through the new fan box, or mounting the box higher and then extending the bottom of it with some kind of trim.
If you can't get the new fan box to fit, or if you just want another option that might be easier, then consider installing an inline fan, like this one:
There are many different types available on Amazon and elsewhere. You mount that up in the ceiling, get some new duct to connect it, and wire it up. You buy a new, blank vent grate that's bigger than the hole in your ceiling. You have the new duct come down to the level of the ceiling, then surround it with something like a PVC sheet ($20, at Home Depot), to keep the insulation from falling down. Then, just mount the grate to the ceiling, probably with some drywall anchors and screws. With that option, you don't have to deal with all of the hassle of trying to get a fan box up and in there, connected properly, and mounted securely.

You should still have fans inside the tent blowing at the plants. I have two. I use something like this at the bottom of my 32x32" tent with a 4" exhaust fan and filter inside the tent.
I have a window A/C unit in the room and the tent is behind a dresser, so I have a box fan nearby the dresser directing cold air to the intake fan. Then I exhaust the air out of the room. Works pretty well.
You do not need a fan that crazy. Get a six inch inline duct fan. That will do the job
