Something like this would probably do the job nicely: https://www.amazon.com/VIVOSUN-Waterproof-Hydroponic-Fermentation-Germination/dp/B073PTZCJ4
Yes, it is worth moving for that temp difference. <70F takes forever(often >3 weeks) to fully ferment.
You have two easy solutions: 1) use a heat mat with temp controller and sensor and use your current location 2) wrap the jar with fabric(towel/sheet) that is dark enough, or thick enough, to block the majority of light. And, use a dark fabric to cover the top in the kitchen
It doesn’t seem to require absolute darkness
Sounds like its too cold. Why dont you get one of these heater bands for $11 on Amazon:
You’ve dodge a bullet twice, already. Why tempt fate?
New SCOBY with starter, pH test sweet tea after adding starter, then add vinegar until it is 3.5-4.5 pH
Wrap a towel around your jar/vessel to keep temp up and more stable between day and night.
Even better, get a $10 heating mat and $20 temp controller/sensor to hold 1F temp between 75-78F.
