MPC is a great choice for a hardware device that’s basically a DAW in a box, and seamlessly becomes a hardware controller to the MPC2.0 software on your PC. It’s the best of both worlds and a mountain of fun. Get a Live and you can take it anywhere since it has a battery in it. I’ve regularly played with it in bed, at a hotel or on a plane while traveling, etc. Super fun.
As to your dilemma: I’d strongly recommend getting a 3U rack for your desk and putting the following into it.
A rack mount power strip, front facing (something like this: WatchfulEyE WTH-CS/PDU-US 125V/15A Heavy Duty Metal 1U Rack Mount Basic PDU Power Strip 10 ft Extension Cord Integrated Circuit Breaker https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08G81YT5D/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_D1JG8D4K96GCSNWBCFC7?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 )
A patch bay. I recommend the Samson S-Patch.
If you have a rack mount audio interface the third slot works well. If not, you might want to consider getting one of those too (I have a MOTU 828 mkii).
Wire up the patch bay to the audio interface. Now, it’s super easy to just pull a hardware synth off the shelf, plug it into the patch bay and power, and get going.
The other option of course is to take a little time planning out a permanent setup where you can just turn on and jam. Mine is a little extreme but illustrates the point. I can literally just flip one switch on the big PDU at the base of my rig and be jamming. I also have the setup I described above on my desk for when I want to sit with a smaller device at my desk, which is handy when I’m doing something like programming my Virus TI from the PC interface and want the monitor right in front of me.
