I too had this issue, and completely fixed it with some electrical contact cleaner. Compressed air didn't work, I had to use this stuff. You lift up the rubber base of the sticks and spray this stuff in there on all the sides, wiggle around your sticks a bit to get it all around in there, let it dry for a an hour and then they'll be back to normal. I have to repeat this process every few months depending on how often depending on how much I'm using my switch, but it's super easy and takes very little time. I still have the same can of cleaner, and it seems like it has plenty left in it.
This can I got for $6 on Amazon fixed the joystick drift on both of my controllers, I used it on the area in between the stick and the plastic of the controller and went in circles making sure to clean all of this contacts. Make sure to get electronic contact cleaner and not just compressed air: WD-40 Specialist Electrical... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AF0OFVU?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I had the same issue and replaced the joystick entirely thinking it would help. It didn’t. Within a month the drift returned. Basically it’s a terrible design. After reading many comments about WD40 electronic contact cleaner, I got a can from Amazon and used it last night. It immediately helped and I didn’t see any drift after that. I highly recommend it based on how quickly it fixed the issue. What I did was I used a toothpick to lift up the dumb rubber flap, a quick spray and rotated for a little bit then let them dry out of 5 minutes. Fired it up, recalibrated and boom, good as new. Did it on the right as well for good measure. Hope this helps!
TLDR; I used WD40 electronic contact cleaner and it works great.
A spray that helps to remove oxidation from contacts such as volume knobs and sliders. Your local hardware store should have one. Or else Amazon has it for sure. I used WD40: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AF0OFVU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_imm_RC7P2N3DV645GYCV52MC
But the issue could be somewhere else too. So no guarantee. I had good experiences up to now, I do not think it would do harm and best case it fixes the issue :)
For the joycon's drifting, I found a little spray from WD-40 specifically their ELECTRICAL CONTACT CLEANER (not their other stuff which would melt plastic), really helped eliminate the drift. This is what i used, its $6.75 on amazon right now, which is much cheaper than $70 for new joycons
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AF0OFVU/ref=oh_aui_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Yeah the contact cleaner I got is the WD-40 one ( https://www.amazon.com/WD-40-Specialist-Electrical-Contact-Cleaner/dp/B00AF0OFVU/ ) and it's plastic safe. In addition, if you read through the comments, you'll see a lot of people who were able to solve the joycon drift problem with them
Both my water pumps and my AC system get stuck relays occasional and I clean them with contact cleaner. Even if yours need more than a cleaning they are cheap and inexpensive parts.

I know it’s a pretty common issue. Someone earlier this week mentioned that they bought electrical contact cleaner and that seemed to work for them. I looked on amazon and found some and just placed an order. The reviews mentioned switch drift being fixed so I hope it works with mine. Here’s the link:
WD-40 Specialist Electrical Contact Cleaner Spray - Electronic & Electrical Equipment Cleaner. 11 oz. (Pack of 1) - 300554-E https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AF0OFVU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_2NEWEbSDYXNVX
WD-40 Contact Cleaner will literally solve your Quest 2 stick drift. A little squirt at the base of the joystick and wiggle it around and it’ll be good. Pro tip: you can remove the faceplate of the quest 2 controller but there’s risk of cracking it if you’re not careful, makes it easier to spray the joystick base, second: do not spray any into the other face buttons, it will temporarily block the contact and the button won’t work until it dries. NEVER USE REGULAR WD-40 ONLY CONTACT CLEANER VERSION
If you haven't already, try some WD40 Specialist Contact Cleaner it's made specifically for sensitive electronics. Just make sure the batteries are removed and give them plenty of time to dry.
No worries, thats why there is a service manual! :)
From what I can see, you won't need to desolder anything. That picture is just black and white, but there are little contact pads inside of the wheel that determine if the tape is full inserted, or ejected. IF those get dirty or corroded, then the connection doesn't pickup the tape position. Copper can get corrosion on it just sitting around, it oxidizes. You might be able to cycle a cleaning tape in there about 40 times and it will start behaving better. The problem is when something sits, you get that oxidation or gumming up of grease that inhibits function.
Don't panic! The model number should be on the back or bottom.
If you don't want to disassemble, buy some contact cleaner and spray it on that gear and cycle a cleaning tape or other tape in and out and see if it starts to behave better.
This is one of the cheaper ones and works well. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AF0OFVU
If you want to even have a higher chance of not losing your laptop, hopefully your laptop has a teardown video on youtube and you can take it apart & spray it with Contact Cleaner designed for electrical components.
https://www.amazon.com/WD-40-Specialist-Electrical-Contact-Cleaner/dp/B00AF0OFVU
It might be a build up of dirt or simply the analog stick wore, but if you want to try cleaning it you should use something like wd-40 contact cleaner it brings analog sticks back to life https://www.amazon.com/WD-40-Specialist-Electrical-Contact-Cleaner/dp/B00AF0OFVU
When I supported control systems for a large production facility, we kept cases of aerosol electrical contact cleaner on hand. It is perfect for spraying things that got wet if you were able to react fast enough to eliminate the power source before it shorts out.
It is pressurized and will displace water as you spray it in and under shields and things. It evaporates rapidly too. I spent a lot of 2:00 AM calls going through 20 year old boards made by a company that no longer exists cleaning edge connectors and hosing them down with contact cleaner trying to get a piece of equipment back online so I could go home and get a few more hours of sleep. It's not magic but it's close.
TL;DR: A can or two of something like this is nice to have around.
I've been having some issues with a Huntsman v2 having sticky keys and WD-40 Contact Cleaner works wonders.
DO NOT USE NORMAL WD-40, THIS IS SPECIAL FOR ELECTRONICS!!!
You can fix drift with this stuff called Electronic Contact Cleaner. It's made by WD-40
Here's an amazon link in case you can't find it anywhere else:
Buy some electric contact cleaner spray. Push the analog stick down and squirt for 1-2 seconds on the top of the base. Push the analog stick up and squirt for 1-2 seconds on the bottom of the base.
This will move the dust on the sensors away from the sensors. This is a temporary fix as more dust will eventually land on the sensors again. As you use your controllers more and more the sticks get a little more and more looser allowing more whatever to get on the sensors. Eventually the spray will be a daily thing.
That said, the can of cleaner should last you years...

I had the same problem as you, that's what brought me to this thread. Cleaning the electric contacts with electric contact cleaner between and on the battery and trimmer fixed it. I couldn't believe the solution was so easy.
This is what I used: WD-40 Specialist Electrical Contact Cleaner Spray - Electronic & Electrical Equipment Cleaner. 11 oz. (Pack of 1) - 300554-E https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AF0OFVU/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_8PN8W92YS1739NWZMMAZ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I use WD-40 electrical contact cleaner.

I think you're right that it needs to be serviced. Luckily, there are some easy service things that a novice can do to improve the signal going through their system. First, pick up some contact cleaner from an electronics retailer. Spray some on all of your plugs the run the plugs in and out of the jacks a number of times. Do it with each jack a couple of times. If there is any rust or environmental goo in the jack, this'll clean it up.
Also, the volume/tone/gain controls can also be cleaned by carefully getting some of the contact cleaner into the mechanism and running the switch back and forth a number of times. It'll clean things up and improve your signal.
Try not to get the cleaner on finished surfaces. If your controls are rotary dials, you might have to take the knob off to get the cleaner into the mechanism.
Hey!
I had the same problem, but the opposite way. What you are getting is pretty much reverse stick drift.
I would advise you to buy some WD-40 Contact Cleaner:
https://www.amazon.com/WD-40-Specialist-Electrical-Contact-Cleaner/dp/B00AF0OFVU
Spray the inside top of the joystick firmly and move it in all directions, don't be scared of putting in a lot of spray as it's not harmful to electronic components.
I hope you can save your left controller, if this doesn't work you may want to redirect yourself to Oculus' support. Until then, good luck!
You can try this or isopropyl alcohol to clean the joystick areas. My kids are awful about getting stuff on controllers and this works well to clean them.
WD-40 Specialist Electrical Contact Cleaner Spray - Electronic & Electrical Equipment Cleaner. 11 oz. (Pack of 1) - 300554-E https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AF0OFVU/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_RM4V8PRQ7HRXW92CN36H
Hey, actual ex vape shop employee and I did repairs. What you might want to do is take a bit of rubbing alcohol on a q tip and rub it in the a little bit. Also try a de-greaser spray Like this one it's most likely that some liquid got in there. The rubbing alcohol and spray should get rid of it. If you have the skill, you can take the board it and clean it. Also make sure to let it sit for 20 minutes after cleaning out use some air to make sure everything dries out
I used WD-40 Electrical Contact Cleaner spray you can get it at homedepot for like $5. Make sure NOT to use reagular WD-40. A quick 1 second spary under the flap of the analog and it will be as good as new. Heres a link to the right one if you want to get it from amazon.
There's a rubber covering at the base of the analog stick, just lift it up, poke the plastic straw on the nozzle of the WD-40 electrical contact cleaner can under it, and spray it. Don't go crazy, just make sure to get a little bit on all sides. Also, make sure to use the WD-40 electrical contact cleaner, not regular WD-40. Here's a link to the correct product on Amazon. If your drift is caused by dust or dirt getting into the analog stick, this should fix it. However, if it comes back, then the stick itself is worn out and you'll need to send it in to Nintendo for repair.
1) Open up the unit
2) WD-40 Specialist Electrical Contact Cleaner Spray - Electronic & Electrical Equipment Cleaner. 11 oz. (Pack of 1) - 300554-E https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AF0OFVU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_rt8JFbBSM15BF
3) Turn the pots around a bit
4) Close the unit
I've had good luck getting rid of it entirely with something like this: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AF0OFVU
Press the trigger halfway down, spray it in the seam nice and slow, press/release trigger over and over. Within 20 or so triggers, it should be gone.
Remove the battery and give it a generous blowout with this stuff. Wet it down and tap the trigger until it stops squeaking. Make sure it’s completely dry before reinstalling the battery. Then keep this stuff around because it’s handy af.
WD-40 Specialist Electrical... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AF0OFVU?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
EDIT: Make sure you use the ELECTRICAL CONTACT CLEANER, not regular WD-40. Do not spray your controller with WD-40 to stop the squeaking 😆
Get some electronics contact cleaner. Like this or similar:
WD-40 Specialist Contact Cleaner, Quick-Drying Spray, 11 OZ https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AF0OFVU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_SaIqFbB3Y1QZR
Spray it on an old toothbrush, and brush inside the charging port until you’ve cleaned the rust off.
When I worked for a large wireless phone provider, this is basically how we’d clean charging ports on phones.
Another option, works good. And dielectric grease works to keep any air from inside the connection which fosters oxidation so don’t shy away from that as well. WD40 Company 300554 Specialist Contact Cleaner Spray - 11 oz. with Smart Straw https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AF0OFVU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_x6RD3J4KOlMsD
WD-40 contact cleaner from amazon has worked great for me. I use it every few months.
This happened to my Scuf too when I bought it. I searched around on the internet and found that people used WD-40 inside the thumbstick module and it fixed it. So I tried it and it's worked perfectly fine for over a year. I used this one from Amazon.
WD40 Company 300554 Specialist Contact Cleaner Spray - 11 oz. with Smart Straw https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AF0OFVU/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_QQAsEb6P2TKQ2
I recently had a similar problem, due to smash. I used compressed air and that only helped for a short while. I recently bought this electronic contact cleaner, gave it a couple sprays under the flap, rotated the stick a couple times and let it dry. And it's been working like new again. Hasn't given me problems anymore.
Not sure about not spending anything but I’ve read some people with other controllers, when they have problems with analog sticks, swear by this spray, it’s like WD-40 electrical contact cleaner and they say it works wonders. Maybe vita stick is different and doesn’t get fixed as well, I don’t really know. But it’s worth a try for 6-7$ I guess.
WD-40 Specialist Electrical Contact Cleaner Spray - Electronic & Electrical Equipment Cleaner. 11 oz. (Pack of 1) - 300554-E https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AF0OFVU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_B5PCCb7P9Y03Y
Tried using duster but didn't have very much success.. Bought this electrical contact cleaner spray:
WD-40 Specialist Electrical Contact Cleaner Spray
Lifted up the joystick rubber flap and sprayed under there a good amount and made sure to do it at multiple angles. I also sprayed with some duster afterward too just to be safe. So far I haven't had any drifting problems since. I also got a pro controller which I use regularly and that doesn't suffer from any drifting issues, nor do I think that it will since it has a more similar setup to a normal controller joystick. Hopefully you get it working!
Compressed air doesn’t work. It didn’t for us. Use electronics contact cleaner. It fixed our original set of joy cons.
Specifically I got this:
WD-40 Specialist Electrical Contact Cleaner Spray - Electronic & Electrical Equipment Cleaner. 11 oz. (Pack of 1) - 300554-E https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AF0OFVU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_vbGuCbF6DTXHW
Yes it is easy to replace, however that probably won’t fix the issue with drifting. I replaced my left stick and within a month it was drifting. Crap design to be honest. Luckily electronic contact cleaner does work and has been a great quick fix. I highly recommend it.
I'm assuming you're trying to clean the PCB. That shiny coating is an electrical varnish; a sealant to protect the board, mainly the circuit traces. Any type of Isopropanol (Isopropyl Alcohol, Acetone, etc.) will strip that varnish. What you'll want to use is Contact Cleaner (here). It's as simple as spraying down the PCB lightly with the cleaner, and then taking a non-abrasive brush to work it around and remove the dirt/oil/dust. Once you're satisfied, wipe down the PCB with a clean microfiber cloth. Good luck!
Should I use something like WD-40 Contact Cleaner or white vinegar to clean the compartment up?
u/Legate_Invictus u/LilDracoVert u/SendMeGiftCardCodes Electrical Contact Clearer will 100% fix this. I did it with my Magni 3 and it totally fixed the scratchy pot and honestly I dont notice the channel imbalance anymore either.
https://smile.amazon.com/WD-40-Specialist-Electrical-Contact-Cleaner/dp/B00AF0OFVU
Just open it up, slip off the knob, give a spray right into the pot, twist it back and forth for like 2 minutes, repeat once more, and you are done.
Electrical Contact Cleaner Amazon Example
I prefer contact cleaner for, well, electrical contact stuff like that
Link for Contact Cleaner on Amazon. Had the problem a couple times and I just use the wd40 and it's good for a month or two.
I experiencied some controller drift early on & this corrected it - power off controller (maybe not needed but better safe than sorry) - spray some electronic contact cleaner onto the thumbstick ball & move the thumbstick around to work it in. Shake out the excess & power the controller back on. You'll be gtg after that.
https://smile.amazon.com/WD-40-Specialist-Electrical-Contact-Cleaner/dp/B00AF0OFVU
Even though parent comment is clear, some people might glance over the WD-40 part: this version is the one you want.
And yeah, +1; it works great. I use it on my joy-cons from time to time.
contact cleaner is what you need.
I went with WD-40 Contact Cleaner for electrical parts, this one (not just regular WD-40): https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AF0OFVU
Don't use wd40. Look for electronic contact cleaner
Do *not* use regular WD-40. They do make a different product that is meant for cleaning electrical contacts:
https://smile.amazon.com/WD-40-Specialist-Electrical-Contact-Cleaner/dp/B00AF0OFVU
If you had a valuable vintage receiver I would say spend the extra money for the best product, but for the D-11 it shouldn't be a big deal. You can also disassemble the discman enough to ensure that you get as little overspray on the board as possible, whereas potentiometers in an old receiver might be located in places where overspray is unavoidable.
You can try cleaning it with https://www.amazon.com/WD-40-Specialist-Electrical-Contact-Cleaner/dp/B00AF0OFVU
It's made specifically for electronics. Give it plenty of time to dry before putting the batteries back in.
For the Nintendo Switch drift I used this instead of canned air. Might want to give it a try.
WD-40 Specialist Electrical Contact Cleaner Spray -
I would use a contact cleaner and then allow it to dry thoroughly. Something like contact cleaner
this: https://www.amazon.com/Company-300554-Specialist-Contact-Cleaner/dp/B00AF0OFVU?th=1
search up on how to use it on buttons on the xbox controller.
I fixed my joycon drift with this spray:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AF0OFVU/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
You can take a toothpick to lift the rubber flap of the stick and use the nozzle to spray the smallest amount you can under the rubber. You can then just roll the stick around to make sure the spray gets everywhere and then let it fully dry (I think I waited about 30 minutes). It solved my drift and I could repeat if I noticed it was getting worse.
Contact cleaner spray is by far the easiest and safest way.
It does sound like a controller issue then. I would dm support on here as they are much better on Reddit.
If it was out of warranty I would use this:
WD-40 Specialist Electrical... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AF0OFVU?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
This fixed mine. Your mileage may vary. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AF0OFVU/
Save yourself a lot of hassle, and just buy some contact cleaner (I just bought the cheap WD-40 branded stuff, here: https://www.amazon.com/WD-40-Specialist-Electrical-Contact-Cleaner/dp/B00AF0OFVU/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=contact+cleaner&qid=1591246049&sr=8-4). Then watch some YouTube videos that show you exactly where to spray it in on the joycon. You have to spray it under the rubber flap under the thumb stick. Make sure your joycon is powered off and remains off until the liquid dries, so it doesn’t cause any electrical issues - only takes about 5 min to dry. I was skeptical... but it worked for my drifting joycons! 3 or 4 months later the drift might come back - but just do it again, and they are like new again. Also, it fixed my drifting Xbox One controller. Here is a video with exact instructions: https://youtu.be/A6kek06vRv8
Stick drift can usually be fixed by opening the controller and spraying contact cleaner into the potentiometers.

This stuff right here: WD-40 Specialist Electrical Contact Cleaner Spray - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AF0OFVU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_G5aNCbC2S9QRP
I’ve read to use this specifically because it is supposedly less harmful to plastics. I have not tried it myself on a switch. I also don’t have the instructions handy, but I bet a Google search could turn those up.
EDIT: post with more info: https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/comments/auugvh/joy_con_drift_fix_ahhh_i_havent_seen_much/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app
Otherwise, try recalibrating them in system settings. Had my left joy-con acting up, and recalibrating solved it for me.
Note: don’t use regular WD-40. That kills the joy-con.
Get some electrical contact cleaner like this, it will be the fastest/easiest way to clean the port.

Can of WD 40 electrical contact cleaner, about 8 bucks on Amazon. Fixed my drift on my original pair and I have a warrantied pair from Gamestop I've stuck on the unit. I enjoy the system a lot.

Probably way too little/too late, but most of logitech's missed click/double-click issues can be solved by cleaning. For whatever reason, it looks like Logitech puts optical sensors in these things and then does a piss-poor job sealing them from dust contamination. This wouldn't be so bad if they weren't incredibly likely to die when you try to open them up.
I've got a G502 Lightspeed for two years. Works as good as the day I bought it, but...
WD-40 Contact Cleaner has basically been needed every 6-12 months to deal with ghost clicks, non-clicks, and double-clicks.
I shut off the mouse (power switches are nice) and liberally spray it between the buttons and into the scroll wheel well. Spin the wheel, click the buttons repeatedly, and the dry it off with a paper towel. All this while wearing nitrile gloves, because I don't wanna dry out my hands with that stuff.
