The good ol' Reddit hug of death happened again and they're out of stock. Probably other customers too, but we sure contributed. Same sale price on Amazon here, albeit there is a restock wait for the 10th: https://www.amazon.com/Blue-SN550-1TB-NVMe-Internal/dp/B07YFFX5MD/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=wd+blue+1tb&qid=1596596367&sr=8-3 Unfortunately you won't get the additional 10% off, but if you really want the SSD now better to get some savings than wait for a restock and get no savings.
Amazon.ca has it on sale for $125 as well if you prefer that over Newegg.
might be a dumb question, but why buy sata ssd's over nvme? sata is 600mbps while nvme is 2000+ mbps. and those normally go for $100/tb too. ran out of nvme slots?
see: https://www.amazon.com/Blue-SN550-1TB-NVMe-Internal/dp/B07YFFX5MD. same brand, 1tb @ $105
What is your budget?
You can get a decent board and then get a PCIe wifi card. There’s lots of decent options for that. That way, you can focus on selecting a decent board like a B560.
Also, I’d suggest getting this for a 1TB storage for not that much more. 250gb will go very quick.
Western Digital 1TB WD Blue SN550 NVMe Internal SSD - Gen3 x4 PCIe 8Gb/s, M.2 2280, 3D NAND, Up to 2,400 MB/s - WDS100T2B0C https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YFFX5MD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_1FQVH6GYFXNVQZQBE2ZH
Can someone help me by telling me the difference between OP's post and this one?
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YFFX5MD/
I'm guessing it's worth the extra $5 but I don't know.
I don't understand the importance of having DRAM on it or any of the other things that the SSDBot is talking about outside of interface and form factor.
Sure, but why not get something like an WD SN550 1TB?
You'll run out of space on a 500GB way too quickly, and while SN550 is slower, it's plenty fast. Most people can't/won't notice any difference between the two in real world usage.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/WD-Blue-SN550-High-Performance-Pcie/dp/B07YFFX5MD/
83gdp for the SN550. I know which one I'd choose.
Western Digital 1TB WD Blue SN550 NVMe Internal SSD - Gen3 x4 PCIe 8Gb/s, M.2 2280, 3D NAND, Up to 2,400 MB/s - WDS100T2B0C https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YFFX5MD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_D0PTK74AH9S4J1QM61SF?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I would also recommend this ssd if you want to save some money since there is hardly or no noticeable difference.
What's your budget? Any mid range m.2 pcie 3.0 nvme drive should work fine. The Western Digital 1TB WD Blue SN550 NVME is a good choice for price/performance. https://www.amazon.com/Blue-SN550-1TB-NVMe-Internal/dp/B07YFFX5MD/ref=sr_1_4?crid=2N0MKY3DDUKGC
Under the buy now button it'll have the return date. Example
It depends on your budget. If you can afford a 2tb+ ssd then go for it. If not then it's better to get a 2TB 7500rpm hard drive for other storage and a 250GB or 500GB ssd for the OS for better start up time and more responsive system.
The ssd you have listed is an m.2 nvme ssd which is much faster than even a regular 2.5' ssd and requires a special slot on the motherboard (most newer ones have at least 1 though).
Also you don't really need to bother with a super premium brand like Samsung, you can get an m.2 nvme ssd from other good brands like western digital, crucial, or sabrent for almost significantly less and have similar actual performance in nearly all cases. For example- https://www.amazon.com/Blue-SN550-1TB-NVMe-Internal/dp/B07YFFX5MD/
From what I have been able to find your computer has one 2.5” slot for hdd or ssd which I am assuming you already have filled with your current drive. That leaves you with two m.2 2280 slots for NVMe drives. Those slots can each handle up to 1 TB and are 3rd gen. This drive should work perfectly for your laptop and is currently on sale from Amazon.
Yes it would be because I linked the wrong item. I wouldn't go with a 970 evo myself since you generally pay a little extra compared to other brands but if you can find one at a good price go for it.. When you upgrade this will be your 2nd nvme because, most likely, you will go to gen 4.
This is what I meant to post. SN550
After digging a bit, this isn't nearly as a good a deal as BBY would have us think...
CamelCamelCamel has historically high price of $124.99
It's currently listed on Amazon for $94.99
This is between $10 and $40 off the usual price.

2x M.2 SSD slot (NVMe PCIe Gen3)
Your laptop can take two m.2 NVMe drives, so you can keep the original SSD, and just add another NVMe m.2 SSD, any m.2 NVMe SSD will work.
As a data unit, this one is more than capable, and its pretty cheap right now:

I want to add a second hard drive to my PC, but I don't know how to figure out what kind to buy.
My motherboard is a Z590-C/ac, and the page for it says:

I have no idea what that means or how to tell what slot my current SSD is in. It's one of these:
https://www.amazon.com/Blue-SN550-1TB-NVMe-Internal/dp/B07YFFX5MD
Any tips?
Would keeping the same board but using this pcie 3 ssd be worth it at 1TB: ( https://www.amazon.co.uk/WD-Blue-SN550-High-Performance-Pcie/dp/B07YFFX5MD/ref=mp_s_a_1_9?crid=2SKZ420TQC5SM&keywords=Pcie+3+m.2&qid=1637184604&sprefix=pcie+3+m.2%2Caps%2C190&sr=8-9 )
8GB RAM and HDD is likely the culprit. HDDs are quite slow. I would recommend asking the company if adding new components would void the warranty, if not I would get a 1TB SSD like this one assuming if you live in Germany and your motherboard has a m.2 slot.
> Asrock Fatal1ty B450 Gaming K4
The 5600X is compatible with that motherboard when the proper BIOS (4.50 or better) is installed.
You will likely have to reinstall everything. The old CPU and motherboard are nothing like the new devices. You will want to save all of your data to a separate storage device before you try booting the new motherboard and CPU into the old Windows install. You could also include a new drive in your build and install Windows to that. Your current programs may still run from the old drive.
Oh shoot, idk there are a million at that price point. I have one of these for a game (d:) drive, it works great

Thanks, I chat with the support, but they just said if you replace anything you void the warranty, but he didn't sound certain. I'm gonna see if I can chat with a different one tomorrow. Thinking of getting the WD Blue 1TB https://www.amazon.com.au/Blue-SN550-1TB-NVMe-Internal/dp/B07YFFX5MD/ref=sr\_1\_1?dchild=1&keywords=wd+blue+nvme+1tb&qid=1632048759&s=computers&sr=1-1
So this one would be compatible? Western Digital 1TB WD Blue SN550 NVMe Internal SSD - Gen3 x4 PCIe 8Gb/s, M.2 2280, 3D NAND, Up to 2,400 MB/s - WDS100T2B0C https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YFFX5MD/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_0CV1ETGT44MBF303Y2YW?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Sorry for all the questions, like I said it's my first PC.
UK Amazon I've no idea what the prices are in other countries though.
Not sure what your budget is but if you have an M2 port, this 1tb ssd runs at 2500 mb/s. Insanely face and fairly cheap compared to the name brands. Was a simple to install and runs flawlessly. https://www.amazon.ca/Blue-SN550-1TB-NVMe-Internal/dp/B07YFFX5MD
From what I've read unless you will do heavy tasks like rendering the speed difference won't matter that much. Up to you tho you can probably get a 1tb nvme for around the same price. Something like this:
https://www.amazon.com/Blue-SN550-1TB-NVMe-Internal/dp/B07YFFX5MD
Hello anyone who reads or responds.
I just purchased this for more store for my computer.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YFFX5MD?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
However, I just realized that my motherboard only has 1 M.2 slot. My motherboard is a MSI B450 gaming plux max.
Can anyone inform me if I can add an additional M.2 slot? And if so, what adapter would work? Thank you.
This is the one I have: Western Digital 1TB WD Blue SN550 NVMe Internal SSD - Gen3 x4 PCIe 8Gb/s, M.2 2280, 3D NAND, Up to 2,400 MB/s - WDS100T2B0C https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YFFX5MD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_FJSC4EPES20E19FNA5AT
But regardless of the brand, I think you’ll be happier with having a very fast SSD that you can actually have a few games on vs a small SSD that’s technically faster but not enough to matter, and is 1/4th the size.
The ssd your getting is in the m.2 form factor, but operates on the sata protocol which is slower than an nvme drive you can get for basically the same price. here’s a link https://www.amazon.com/Blue-SN550-1TB-NVMe-Internal/dp/B07YFFX5MD/ref=asc_df_B07YFFX5MD/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=416769961145&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=4845156806371812488&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&a...
I'm gonna be honest I dont know much about ssd s
But I only just got it now after having a hard drive for 7 months .

This is the sad I got
Is the Western Digital WD SN550 worthy as well? Its slightly cheaper than SN750 and so I'm asking.
Oh sorry I mistyped it, it’s the SN550. Here it is
Western Digital 1TB WD Blue SN550 NVMe Internal SSD - Gen3 x4 PCIe 8Gb/s, M.2 2280, 3D NAND, Up to 2,400 MB/s - WDS100T2B0C https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YFFX5MD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_chl6FbCHCB558
Thanks. I am leaning twoards 1TB nvme m.2 SSD
So you're sure that I can install another one for my laptop, right? How come lenvo's website does not say that specifically?
The reason I am leaning towards that and not the 2TB HDD is because I dont have a whole lot of data but it is still large enough that I would like to smoothly browse through photos. I dont want the folders loading for a long time.
I can use the new storage to install new games that I am planning to install.
If everything is good, can you please confirm if this is the one I should be buying?
https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07YFFX5MD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_imm_t1_74xZFbTXP92QW
By the way, in the future lets say for some reason I am again out of space, can I remove the new 1TB SSD and replace it with a new 2 TB HDD while transferring all the data from the 1TB SSD to the 2TB HDD?
This totally. If i remember correctly, the WD Blue 1tb NMVE dropped to a low price over cyber monday and sold out quick. Now it's at the same price that it dropped to. If you wait to black friday, it will likely sell out. This is just one example.
Looks good - if you want to save some money, drop the Evo Plus and swap it for a WD SN550. That's an easy $50 savings with no real noticeable performance drop for your system:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YFFX5MD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_RS8RFbMC1DEQ2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Good luck finding a 3070 FE at MSRP.
I would say that this is a fairly decent build. one thing I would suggest is that you change that 2.5" ssd to a "nvme ssd." They are just as expensive as 2.5" ssds, but they are faster (going off specs like 4x faster), so why not.
On top of that, as it stands, you're spending $165 for a total 2 tb of storage. However, if you got two 1tb nvme drives like this one (your motherboard has two m.2 nvme drive slots), then for about $25-35 more, you could have a total of 2tb of super fast nvme storage which is an order of magnitude faster than both of the drives you have selected. At a bare minimum, I would strongly suggest you not buy a mechanical hard drive because they are extremely slow especially in the year 2020.
One last thing I would mention is that right now is kind of a awkward time it but a graphics card. The next gen of cards will be available in a couple months and they will way more performent at the same msrp.
WD Blue SN550 1TB. Also I found the issue, the 100% spikes on my C drive is because Onedrive is coded by literal monkeys. Should have been the first thing I tried before posting a reply,
Theres a ton of options on amazon. Im actually low key upset because the same model i bought is on sale for $105 on amazon right now smh
But yeah, ram and storage prices have plummeted in the last year or so. There is literally no excuse not to have at least a 2.5inch ssd in your PC.
Edit - the 500 gb M.2 NVME is like $50
Yeah definitely, I'm also looking to pick up parts this Prime day / Black Friday :)
Any SSD will work but some are faster than others - generally, SSDs in NVMe format (i.e. like the SN 550 https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07YFFX5MD/ref=cm_sw_r_u_apa_i_7ODDFbGEMP58H) will have about 4x higher read/write speeds than a SATA SSD. Something to think about!
Is Western Digital a good brand for PC gaming SSD? Particularly this one
Can't go wrong with WD. There are cheaper but I have no experience with them. Mine are always Seagate, Hitachi, WD and Samsung for storage.
Nah, you don't really need a Samsung SSD for games. You can get better value elsewhere.
I see now. I wouldn't mind the difference to be fair. It wouldn't be that important. The brand is what I'm not sure of In your opinion would the one i posted be good or should i go for something from a better known brand like WD or Crucial despite having lower speeds?
Thanks for your help you hit the nail on the head. I am using this card. My friend has a newer Dell Optiplex desktop PC which comes with an NVMe card and so I tried it with that and it worked first time. Reading the WD NVMe description more closely its says Western digital-designed controller and firmware paired with our latest 3D NAND for optimized consistent performance which makes me wonder whether their implementation is the reason why the NVMe card cant be recognised.
The point I am at now is whether to buy the Dell brand NVMe card (really expensive!) or go with a different consumer grade NVMe card. Is the fact that I tried a Dell branded card the reason it worked or is it an just an issue with the WD card? What are your thoughts?
That drive is 1GB faster than the one in Xbox, this is a better comparison: https://www.amazon.com/Blue-SN550-1TB-NVMe-Internal/dp/B07YFFX5MD/ref=sr_1_4?crid=3ELS8456XFK3F&dchild=1&keywords=1tb+m.2+ssd&qid=1599622260&sprefix=1tb+m.2+%2Caps%2C152&sr=8-4
This is a drive that's the equivalent of the XBox SSD: https://www.amazon.com/Blue-SN550-1TB-NVMe-Internal/dp/B07YFFX5MD/ref=sr_1_4?crid=3ELS8456XFK3F&dchild=1&keywords=1tb+m.2+ssd&qid=1599622260&sprefix=1tb+m.2+%2Caps%2C152&sr=8-4
The drives you're talking about are 3.5 GB/s. Even the 5GB/s SSDs are cheaper than what MS has their 2.4 GB/s drive set at if this rumor is true.
And my point was that technology is being replaced and for reasonable prices im sure microsoft knows this and probably built/building windows with ssd drives in mind.
After this convo i purchased one of these 1TB M.2 Drives for my own pc $162 local currency for 1TB..
WD blue 1TB was in sale the other day. Looks like it still is: https://www.amazon.ca/Blue-SN550-1TB-NVMe-Internal/dp/B07YFFX5MD/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=wd+blue+1tb&qid=1599415106&sprefix=wd+blue+&sr=8-2
If you can afford to, drop the 2TB HDD and get 2TB MX500. It’ll stop your PC from minor lock ups if it slept the drive. Plus random IO is way better. But can’t complain about the price of that seagate.
Love the seasonic PSUs!
Just for gaming? Or any other workloads?
My two cents? Spend an extra $30 and get an NVME 1TB SSD. Don't do ansata SSD and a HDD on top of it. WD SN550 is $105 for 1TB and plenty of other ones out there as well. This will make load times much faster and also eliminate wires so it looks cleaner.
This is an absolutely amazing drive and hands down my favorite desktop drive. It's about 3-4x faster than the £92 one, and can be filled to capacity without slowdowns, unlike most any other SSD on the market. But if you can't get the student discount that /u/IPlayVideo mentioned, the SN550 is actually only £107 on Amazon.
I just suggested the cheapest decent drive I could find, since it would still be a massive upgrade over what you have. But if the SN550 1TB is in budget, it's definitely going to be better overall, as NVMe is much faster than SATA.
I looked at the picture of your MoBo and the m.2 slot has one notch where the ssd goes. The one you chose had two wholes for the notch and is not compatible. This one https://www.amazon.com/Blue-SN550-1TB-NVMe-Internal/dp/B07YFFX5MD/ref=mp_s_a_1_2_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=nvme+ssd&qid=1592628363&sprefix=nvme+&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExWDc0WlZRTkFRNzIyJmVuY3J5cHRlZ... Do you have a GPU yet? If not I guess this has integrated graphics for now. Upon reflection I may have went a bit overboard below. Its hot out and I'm sitting here enjoying my AC. Also, my build.
I don't see any related Prime day deals other than on SSDs maybe
Case - How big you thinking? Mid Tower or something small? Corsair 4000D Airflow, Be Quiet 500DX, Phanteks P400A, and Fractal Meshify C Compact. All medium size cases, not HUGE but plenty of room for cable management and normal/large cards. Check card length limits if you have/get a big card. I went with the 500DX in white, it's silent. The loudest part of my PC is literally my 3.5" hard drive clicking away.
Most of the cases above come with sufficient fans, if not you can buy extra of the same type in the case if you want to match. Better to get a GOOD case with decent fans already then a cheap case and have to buy fans to put in that cheap-o case.
Ram - I don't see any prime day stuff. I would say at least 16gb, 3600mhz cl16 or cl18. You should always check your Motherboards QVL list, but Intel is way less picky on ram so like...if it says Intel/XMP ready... ymmv but I've had zero issues so far.
If you want RGB, this is what I got and it's been perfect (mine is white) Team Group 16gb 3600 CL18 RGB $95
If you don't want RGB basic Gskill 16gb 3600 CL16 $82
PSU - I would consider going at least 750w, maybe even 850w. The more headroom you have, the less it has to work. Some have a feature where the fan doesn't even turn on until it uses 30% or so of its wattage, so even more quiet system. EVGA 750w Gold w/ 10 year warranty for $99, can't go wrong with this.

CPU Cooler - Okay...the stock cooler is shit. I went with a Shadow Rock 3 from Be Quiet, $59 for white version. That's a bit overkill to be honest, I did it because I like overkill and also because it's white like my case. 10600k can pull almost 200w I think, so you'll probably want something with a TDP rating of 180-200 for optimal headroom.
What I got: Shadow Rock 3 $59
Cheaper alternatives
$8 more on Amazon. Say what you will but I'd rather buy off amazon for the easy return if I get a bad unit
They also nudged their 1TB NVMe down to the lowest I've noted in quite some time. Still not expecting better than GB/£ prices from a few months ago just yet.
So I just bought this:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07YFFX5MD/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
And I have a MSI B450 GAMING PRO CARBON AC. I plan to use this for the top M.2 slot but I thought about getting one for the second. Would this be fine or would the two ssds overlap?
Save yourself some $$ and get a WD Blue from Amazon for $140 Better return policy and really no one sees the advertised speeds on these drives.
If you really want the drive buy it from Amazon same price as shipped from newegg (free shipping on Amazon)
The WD Blue NVME is cheaper, and I would trust a company like Western Digital more than I trust Sabrent.
Very low risk attempting it yourself, I haven't fully priced it out but you can get a 1Tb NVMe Western Digital ssd for $135 Canadian on sale, which is ~$100 USD https://www.amazon.ca/Blue-SN550-1TB-NVMe-Internal/dp/B07YFFX5MD

So I'll be okay with these two?
You should put in pc part picker, but all of that looks good.
That SSD is quite expensive though. I would consider getting a SN550 1TB: https://www.amazon.com/Blue-SN550-1TB-NVMe-Internal/dp/B07YFFX5MD/
And then you can add a large 2TB sata drive if needed for about $200. (Not sure which model, maybe this one: https://www.amazon.com/Blue-NAND-2TB-SSD-WDS200T2B0A/dp/B073SBRHH6/)
After reading some reviews, this one looks pretty promising for the price. Hope it helps:)
I legit just ordered one of these WD NVME M.2, should I just return it? I mostly just want a reliable mostly fast drive.
I'd suggest spending a little more on an NVMe SSD.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07YFFX5MD/
Works out at the time of writing to €118 delivered
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B089DNM8LR/
That ones €109
Those are recent deal on Amazon UK and will ship to Spain for not much more. Slightly higher performance and one set of cables less to route.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07YHPSF8H
If you want to opt for a bigger saving then these is also that which is well rated. I have another kind of SSD from this brand in my laptop that's been doing great for a couple of years now.
There is one NVMe and similar price, I Guess the question is still valid? Is it because it’s Samsung which makes it +$70?

https://www.amazon.ca/Blue-SN550-1TB-NVMe-Internal/dp/B07YFFX5MD/

You've picked an m.2 SATA drive, which isn't as fast as an NVME. Also 512 GB for gaming is a wee bit small as many games are starting to hit the 100 GB size.
Might look into a WD Blue 1 TB for $105.
If you have Amazon Prime or know someone who does, tomorrow is Prime Day, so there may be some good sales.
I wish man lmao.

Thank You for making this :)
I've just purchased the 201 model this year [2022], with 512Gb SSD. I got the thing 2nd hand of eBay and so was looking to replace it with a faster 1TB SSD, cause I'm planning on doing some gaming, editing and programming.
Compatible sized SSD card: NVMe m.2 SSD M-key (pin layout) 2280 (22mm x 80mm).
I found a website, with a few but not all NVM SSD cards.
https://www.mrmemory.co.uk/ssd-upgrades/huawei/notebook/matebook-x-pro
I've listed some recommended SSD cards from Amazon I read other users recommend.
I'll let you guys know which one I buy and how it works out :)
My go-to portable SSD is actually a standard M.2 NVMe SSD inside a USB-C enclosure. This is the drive I use (a WD Blue SN550) and this is the enclosure I use.

https://www.amazon.com/Blue-SN550-1TB-NVMe-Internal/dp/B07YFFX5MD
this one.

Its mounted directly on the motherboard.
I have the latest motherboard BIOS installed.
The make/model of my c drive is TEAM T253X2512G, which is this, I believe.
I also have a secondary g drive that i install games on which is: Western Digital 1TB WD Blue SN550 NVMe Internal SSD. Link here.
I don't know if this is relevant, but this message pops up about 2 times a week after I've done programming homework using IDLE, Visual Studio community, or VS code. It says, "The instruction at ______ referenced memory at _______. The required data was not placed into memory because of an I/O error status of 0xc000000e." I'm going to run "chkdsk /r" to see if something turns up.

Can't you just order from overseas? It looks like you can get up to S$400 tax-free?
I just ordered a 1 TB nVME and 16GB DDR4 CL16 RAM to Indonesia from England and it's still cheaper with paying 17.5% tax, so you paying nothing would be a big saving....
Some links:
Order those together comes to £111 with shipping (note the displayed prices on Amazon.co.uk include 20% VAT, which is removed at checkout) . That's S$204
Case:
There is this one:
https://shopee.sg/TECWARE-FORGE-L-OMNI-High-Airflow-ATX-Case-with-OMNI-fan-hub-3x-14cm-ARGB-PWM-1x-12cm-ARGB-PWM-i.1122108.9013600436 S$98 which takes ATX and has 140mm fans instead of 120mm, but it depends if you actually want a bigger case also.
Both cases are full RGB with fan controller with PWM, so not noisy and you don't need any extra controller.
650W modular, this is a quality power supply S$116.
That's like S$407 (US$300), you then need motherboard, CPU, graphics card.
It looks like S$888 (US$650) for an RX 6600 XT https://shopee.sg/(ALLSTARS)-PowerColor-Radeon-AMD-Radeon-RX-6600-XT-RX6600XT-Fighter-8GB-GDDR6-PCI-Express-Gaming-Graphics-i.174596330.15129838331
A Gigabyte DS3H B660M is a reasonable motherboard for latest Intel chips at S$235
https://shopee.sg/DYNACORE-INTEL-I5-12400F-2.50GHz-18MB-CACHE-6C-12THREAD-PROCESSOR-(3YEARS-WARRNTY-BY-INTEL)-i.21612156.14035734546 12400f = S$290
That's a total of just over US$1000, you can spend more money if you want, like better CPU won't give you much extra performance but there is like 12700f
you could also definitely consider 32GB of RAM instead of the 16GB which is a modest extra cost even though you probably don't need it
https://www.amazon.co.uk/CORSAIR-VENGEANCE-PC4-25600-Desktop-Memory/dp/B07RW6Z692/
Storage you can go to 2TB, but it's more than twice as expensive.
Its actually an SSD at 1Tb already, I just omitted the long list of characters since it was so painfully long. My main concern is that I feel that the gpu is under performing at the moment. And I dont really know where to start looking for the culprit.
For reference the ssd is this one.
I've considered looking into overclocking but that feels like it fixes symptoms and not the core cause. I have seen some frame rates for the games I am playing and the frame rate is typically about 25% below.
Motherboard (which I had thought was the culprit) was this one.
Also any references on guides where I can learn more about this hobby would be helpful.

Almost right - Amazon has the SN550 at $84, which is the exact same drive:
https://www.amazon.com/Blue-SN550-1TB-NVMe-Internal/dp/B07YFFX5MD
Here it is WD Blue SN550 1TB High-Performance M.2 PCIe NVME SSD https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07YFFX5MD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_QQK3WVMT810JJS6Z295F

You current have two drives, a 480gb sata WD green m.2 drive and another sata drive of some kind.
To get the best performance you ideally need to switch out the current m.2 drive for a nvme one as it'll run at least 3 times as fast.
Personally for £70 I'd buy a WD sn550 nvme https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07YFFX5MD/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_Z4GS2MEFPVF8AZAPXWAK
Then for £10 you can then convert your existing m.2 to a standard Sata drive and use it for extra storage. https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01N6PMZLW/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_3QYJNDN6BMXSH9ADZKGD?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
That gets you a decent size nvme boot drive and a couple of extra storage drives.

Are you sure you have an 2.5inch ssd slot in your laptop?
if this is your laptop: https://www.msi.com/Laptop/GS65-Stealth-9SX-GTX/Specification
it says it has 2x m.2 slots, not 2.5 inch slot. m.2 slot
so you may need this: m.2 ssd
1TB for £64.98 too, lowest price ever not bad
I'm not too sure actually but I've been using this one for a nearly year and it's been killer

Why would you not use it as a boot drive? New to PC building here.
This SSD is a NVMe SSD and quite cheap. As you might know you should get a SSD as Windows can boot way faster, app/game loading times are faster, downloading is faster etc. Don’t install in top M.2 slot and 10th Gen Intel disables the top M.2 slot in 500 (H510, B560, Z590) series motherboards.
NEVER EVER CHEAP OUT ON THE POWER SUPPLY because it risks you damaging or even bricking your PC. This power supply is very good quality and is fully modular and the wattage should be enough for mid end or even some high end graphics cards. If you want to change the power supply, look at the model not brand, check professional reviews like Tom’s Hardware and you can refer to this tier list. Another rule is efficiency is not quality, don’t listen to people who will say get at at least a gold rated power supply because it is incredibly misleading.
You want a case that has good airflow and easy to work with like this. Again, check reviews and look for airflow in the images of the case. The NZXT H510 series (except NZXT H510 flow) case is something you should avoid due to poor airflow.
Ideally you want two 8 GB sticks of RAM which will allow you to run dual channel. This can effectively double your bandwidth than if you were only to buy one stick. Do refer to the motherboard manual to see which slots to install it on to enable dual channel because not all RAM slots are created equal. Also 16GB total RAM is the current recommendation for gaming. 3200MHz CL16 or 3600MHz CL18 RAM is fine for Intel but for Ryzen many people would go for 3600MHz CL16 RAM. It depends on the country and pricing, sometimes you even might be better off getting 3600MHz CL18 if the price difference between 3600MHz CL16 is huge.
Good gaming 6 cores 12 threads CPU for cheap. It’s one of the best value CPUs you can buy right now. For a mid range build, aim for 6 core 12 threads CPU. It is the current sweet spot for gaming.
Good pairing to the 10400f and also B560 allows you to run RAM higher than 2666MHz which the limitation of B460.
Note: If you want to switch to Ryzen, you need to switch the motherboard that is 400 or 500 (AMD) (e.g B550 not B560) series chipset and has an AM4 socket.
GPU
I haven’t got you a GPU but they are currently scalped very high and in my opinion I think prices will go up and up so I don’t think you should wait. I’d just buy one now.
NVIDIA (3000 series like RTX 3060) vs AMD (6000 series like RX 6600XT):
NVIDIA much has better ray tracing performance, DLSS (resolution upscaling, it can improve frame drastically but it depends whether the game supports it), NVENC (takes strain of CPU which can be useful for streaming for example), CUDA (some productivity software might want CUDA).
AMD often have better rasterisation performance (performance without ray tracing), more VRAM (can help with future proofing).
Note: NVIDIA and AMD both support FSR equally (AMD’s alternative to DLSS but that is not as good as DLSS).
Depends on what you are after, really. SSD storage will set you back about $125 for 1 TB. For more capacity than that, you'll probably want a mix of HDD and SSD to keep price in check.
Hard drives are slower, but great for mass media storage, especially things that won't be modified often. Usually $25-50 / TB
For things like games, applications and general use, I'd grab this 1 TB Seagate SATA drive ($115 with 84835 coupon).
An NVMe drive like the SN550 is even faster, but the difference is hardly noticeable for the vast majority of use cases. It wouldn't be much pricier however, though you'll have to add an adapter like this.

I just found ones that seem the same that have more storage and mainly are just cheaper. Can you tell me if this would be a good option?
Either the 1TB or 500gb version compared to the synology one
Probably someone has already asked something similar. but I couldn't find it so I'm sorry if that's the case. I was looking at an SSD to replace a 7yo HDD. The manual for my mainboard (ASUS B85M-E/BR) says that it has the following expansion slots:
1xPCI Express 3.0/2.0 x 16 slot
1xPCI Express 2.0 x 16 slot (@x4)
1xPCI Express 2.0 x 1 slot
1xPCI slot
My video card(GTX 1060) uses 16 PCI Express 3.0 slots
I was considering the following SSD:
https://www.amazon.com/Blue-SN550-1TB-NVMe-Internal/dp/B07YFFX5MD
Another website says that it supports PCIe Gen3 x2, PCIe Gen2 x4, PCIe Gen2 x2 and PCIe Gen2 x1. And I really couldn't understand this information, this means my mainboard has 2 PCIe slots left and I can install this SSD in one of them?
OK nvm you can get a 1TB from amazon for £85 quid lol 2400mb reads ill send the link
I am not sure how heat generation works with read vs. write - all I know anecdotally is I have a 1TB WD Blue NVMe in an ICY BOX 3.1 Gen 2 Heatsink Enclosure that I'm using for my PS4 games on my PS5. And that enclosure gets fucking HOT after extended play sessions.

I cannot give you a clear recommendation here, because I didn't actually do a proper research for NVMe myself (maybe in the future, when I'll want to replace SATA SSD for NVMe), but here's a quick search:
https://smile.amazon.co.uk/WD-Blue-SN550-High-Performance-Pcie/dp/B07YFFX5MD - 600 TB TBW
https://smile.amazon.co.uk/Crucial-CT1000P2SSD8-Internal-2400-NAND/dp/B086BGWNY8 - 300 TB TBW
Glossary:
- TBW: Terabytes written, this is a rough measurement of SSD lifetime, usually found in the specs.
The SSD model will depend on your usage pattern:
- you treat NAS mainly as a storage: SSD doesn't matter
- accessing often the same files again and again: get a higher capacity SSD
- accessing files that often change, or large variety of files: get the SSD with higher TBW value
- running intensive applications on a NAS, e.g. VMs, Docker, etc.: get two SSDs (which will enable read-write cache)
Don't go with the expensive SSDs. Even the cheap ones should be enough for most people. Don't go the cheapest ones, though, keep healthy middle.
I ordered a Western Digital 1TB WD Blue SN550 NVMe Internal SSD, following in the footsteps of someone else on here.
But I now half regret it - the write endurance is low, so I might need to replace it if I want to continue plotting after my 16TB is full. Consult the SSD endurance chart for more highly recommended (but often more expensive) SSDs.
Thanks. So this would be good to go? https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07YFFX5MD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_CQC588ZK9NXWQM96V43V?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
IF you are only going to use WIndow, Optane is nice, but is a hassle and has a lot of overhead if you are going to be playing with other operating systems.
FOr your purposes, I would jsut get an i5 at half the price
If the storage is too low or 8 GB not enough ram, both are upgradeable on this platform, so can easily bump up to 32GB DDR4and a 1tb m.2 for an added $250.
That would be what I would do, after taxes and all should be ≈ $800
Obviously you don't need two coolers.
You could probably get by with a cheaper SSD drive. https://www.amazon.ca/Blue-SN550-1TB-NVMe-Internal/dp/B07YFFX5MD The one you selected is better so your call.
It's good, I'd just change the SSD to this one 'cause it's a bit better: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07YFFX5MD?tag=pcp0f-21&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1
I'd stretch the budget a bit and get this drive instead. https://www.amazon.ca/Blue-SN550-1TB-NVMe-Internal/dp/B07YFFX5MD
Not speaking for everyone, but I'd much rather deal with Amazon than Newegg and I'd pay the $5 convenience tax to do so. It's currently $105 on Amazon.

Power supplies are vey expensive right now. Wait for sales, I don' see any good ones today at even remotely OK prices. Seems to be a shortage, many popular models are sold out for the last week or so.
This is fun to play with building a computer.

Some parts are very hard to find right now such as cpu, gpu, and even power supply. Your bf might opt to buy a pre-built pc to make getting those hard to find parts easier. In that case he may prefer a good mouse/keyboard/headset.
Ideally, you'd get another NVME drive. The combo slot means it can run both SATA-based and NVME-based M.2 drives.
There's not much reason to get a SATA M.2 at the moment if you can use an NVME one, as entry level NVME drives are fairly close in cost and have better performance.
Take for example, this Western Digital drive. It's only 54 cents more expensive than its equivalent SATA drive.
There are other options, but I've only personally used WD and Samsung SSDs so can't recommend anything else from experience.
How does it compare to this one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YFFX5MD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabt1_-KEXFb1YTYQ7P?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 Is one better than the other?

It's a completely different style of SSD. "Key difference" would be that yours is the RAM-style of drive, smaller but much faster, while the one mentioned above is the 2.5" drive style.
It's up to you, but I wouldn't bother.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YFFX5MD/ref=cm_sw_r_wa_awdb_imm_t1_sppWFbK31CZAT , what about this one ?
Ah I don't have the 2.5 cable right now, so I'd be better off getting an M2?

Or $160 at all needs https://allneeds.com.au/western-digital-blue-1tb-nvme-m-2-ssd
Western Digital 1TB WD Blue SN550 NVMe Internal SSD - Gen3 x4 PCIe 8Gb/s, M.2 2280, 3D NAND, Up to 2,400 MB/s - WDS100T2B0C https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YFFX5MD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabt1_b6uRFbVCDJGTF
I would go with the 5600x. Could try to get a different NVME drive (WD or Crucial had sub 100 USD 1 tb drives recently) or you could go with a 9700k (if you cant find a 5600x and NEED a working pc now) cause they are super discounted recently.
All up to you friend! Also, use microsoft rewards to get game pass ultimate for free. No man sky is bundled in on ultimate!

unless you are limited to SATA M.2, buy the 1tb SN550 NVMe which is the same price
it is better in every way.
My guess is that they meant to reference/link the NVME WD BLue:

Sorry to piggy back of this post but I recently bought this SSD on a prime day sale, reading your post do you think its ok or should I return it.
1TB WD SN550 for $137 delivered if you have Prime. Pretty much on par with the A2000.
I'm looking for a relatively cheap 1TB m.2 ssd, no more than 100-120 USD. Motherboard is msi b450 Tomahawk (not max).
So far I'm pondering about Western Digital Blue SN550 or Silicon Power SU001TBP34A80M28AB. Which one of these or another disk would suit the best?
I personally am thinking to get the WD blue 1TB nbme: https://www.amazon.in/dp/B07YFFX5MD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fab_2ZeHFbQCTBQZC, it's fairly priced with great speed.
the second one is an m.2 ssd wich i think is faster, although i would go with an nvme one like this:

Probably one of the best all around nvme drives.
Thanks a lot man!
a lot of you guys have recommended to buy a single stick, and I'm planning to do the same now. Also I'd like to know if the WD Blue NVME (1 TB) is the smarter choice here. https://www.amazon.in/Western-Digital-SN550-Internal-WDS100T2B0C/dp/B07YFFX5MD/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=1tb+nvme&qid=1602409090&s=computers&sr=1-3
I think so but if you don't already have an M.2 drive then you could get one of these for a third of the price: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07YFFX5MD/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1
Need Help. Hey guys, first time installing an NvMe on a prebuilt desktop. I got this NvME https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07YFFX5MD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1.
I booted it and went into windows and got the windows key. Then I toke out the harddrive and tried to install windows on nvme but it is not detected, not in bios and no when i boot using my usb to install windows. Am I missing a step?
What do you think about WD Blue SN550? It's like only a $2.5 cheaper than P1 here, I know the price will be more different by some days.
>wd blue sn550
Thank you, but is this the one you are talking about?
This is the one I have currently, any good? https://www.amazon.co.uk/WD-Blue-SN550-High-Performance-Pcie/dp/B07YFFX5MD/
You might disagree with me, but I think this pricing is horrible and its hard to see how its justified.
The Xbox Series X is 2.4 GB/s. Even though it's PCIE 4.0, there are many PCIE 3.0 SSDs that are faster than it and cheaper. Same Speed for $105
The Samsung 980 Pro is a speculated SSD that we're hoping works with the PS5 cuz it's 7GB/s read, and goes for $230. Samsung always has a premium tax on it, so eventually there will be a SSD made by another brand that's cheaper and just as fast.
The good thing with allowing 3rd party SSDs with the PS5 is that we can use a 500GB variant, or we could put it in a laptop or desktop.
Looks like a solid plan for budget build, here's a few changes/improvements I'd recommend if budget allows.
Power Supply: I'd see if you can find something at least 550W, Corsair is good brand or Seasonic.
Storage: I'd suggest a NVMe M.2 SSD as that board has M.2 slot, they're much faster and don't cost much more per GB. Also get a 1TB SSD if possible 480GB will fill up fast with games these days. I just upgraded to this 1TB WD blue M.2 SSD myself. I'd also think about adding like a 2TB HDD for storage especially if you get a ~500GB SSD.
Graphics Card: 570 is getting old I've got one from few years back but looking to upgrade soon, I wouldn't get a 570 now unless it's cheap like $100. Looks like 1660 super is about same price or only like $30 more than RX 570 8GB but much better.
Monitor (x2): LENOVO - G24-10 I think is an older 144hz TN panel? Can't find any for sale so not sure what you're paying. AOC-24G1 or G2 IPS version if you can find it in stock are very nice for the price. Tiny beasle, great tall and adjustable stand.
So would this SSDbe ok to use?
this ssd would be much faster than your chosen ssd because it’s not sata. it’s the same price but sadly you have to wait for it to restock on September 24th.
I've bought this laptop couple days ago. It comes with 256 ssd but I'm upgrading it to a 1 tb one. Here's the link to the one I'm buying. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YFFX5MD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_3SRvFbKG5EHDE
For 500gb 970 But if you can spend a little more this isn’t bad for 1tb
https://www.amazon.com/Blue-SN550-1TB-NVMe-Internal/dp/B07YFFX5MD
Look into getting an NVME m.2 SSD as it can be up to 5x faster than a standard SSD. Other than that everything else seems good.
This NVME is around the same price and 1tb. It has 2400 Megabytes Per Second, compred to your 560 Megabytes Per Second.
Confused b/w 500 gb(INR 5703) or 1 TB(INR 10,161) nvme m.2 ssd
Money is not issue, but not sure how long these will last .. so is it worth to invest in 1tb , or should i get a 500 GB one and a normal 1TB HDD , or a sata based SSD later .. ?
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YFFX5MD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_MWkuFbG6AGRZY
Literally the same storage
Also I picked this SSD are the pins and everything fit on the motherboard that's in my cart? https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07YFFX5MD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_A2TsFbP2KBZMM
Which one is this?
Western Digital 1TB WD Blue SN550 NVMe Internal SSD - Gen3 x4 PCIe 8Gb/s, M.2 2280, 3D NAND, Up to 2,400 MB/s - WDS100T2B0C https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YFFX5MD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_CpSsFbND0N8CX

Sorry I didn't include it at first, my bad
here are the 2 I was looking at: WD Blue SN550 1TB NVMe Internal SSD
alright thanks! will this work?

https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07YFFX5MD/ref=twister_B082KVPKQ5?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
So I found three SSD within the same price range which one would really be the best fit for this setup?

Western Digital 109$
Crucial 104$
Ah, now I see another thing on the board called 2280. Didn't see that thanks. So, I'll be fine getting this drive then?
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YFFX5MD
That will work fine with my Mobo?
Honestly the Ryzen 2600 still holds up great. I wouldn't recommend upgrading your CPU or motherboard, you'll get much more out of getting the upgrades you mentioned. I would get a 1 tb SSD ($120), 16gb RAM ($62) and a rx5600xt ($300). Total is $482, not including tax. You'll see huge gains in performance from these upgrades. I hope this helps!

If you need storage more than speed, the WD blue 1TB is $160 on amazon right now.
https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07YFFX5MD/ref=twister_B082KVPKQ5?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I think you meant to reply to the same person I replied to, since they're the ones that brought up the NVMe version, the WD SN550 Blue NVMe M.2.
However on Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/Blue-SN550-1TB-NVMe-Internal/dp/B07YFFX5MD
And currently it's the same $119.99 on the Western Digital site:
https://shop.westerndigital.com/products/internal-drives/wd-blue-sn550-nvme-ssd#WDS100T2B0C

> there's a m.2 2280 variant in m.2 for ssd speeds? Not nvme?
I can't parse that so there must be some misplaced words or something. People often say "SSD" when they mean to say "SATA"; that might be one of the issues.
M.2 is a small socket on motherboards; physically it can accept both SATA and NVMe SSDs, although the motherboard determines whether that particular M.2 socket supports the SATA protocol or the NVMe protocol or both.
On desktop motherboards the standard size of the SSD that goes into an M.2 socket is 22mm by 80mm, which is represented as "2280".
The WD Blue is the name of two drives, not one with two variants.
The current thread is about a SATA "WD Blue" drive that happens to be in the 2280 format for M.2 sockets.
The OP is recommending (and I agree) that one instead get the "WD Blue" whose model is "SN550", which is a (considerably faster) NVMe drive (again in the 2280/M.2 format).
It's in stock on Amazon right now for $130 (from Amazon, not from a 3rd party seller). And it's still slower than the SX8200 Pro, which is itself a little slower than the EX950 at game load times. Not that it matters all that much anyway as we're really just talking about a difference of one or two seconds (nothing like what you would notice going from an HDD to an SSD).
To be fair though, it did go on sale for ~$100 multiple times in 2019 before the recent price increases.
If you can stretch your budget a small amount, you could pick up a 1TB SN550 from Amazon for a penny shy of £108.

same drive as the internal. The only difference is the form factor and no heatsink which you can buy on your own.
Seagate expansion is overpriced.
Price is still the problem though. $180 on discount or $220 full price is still expensive for a Dram-less 2.4GB/s NVMe. It typically performs like a Gen 3 drive. This is basically the drive inside the XSX but at a bigger form factor
It doesn't matter how much faster SFS, and the decompression block makes asset streaming, the drive alone is still lower performing vs a Gen 4 NVME with dram at the same price.
