So after the shower I towel dry heavily I mean your beard has to be dry or your burning hair so keep that in mind. I brush up several times then down a few more. Hit it with some oil and a little balm for shape and it’s good to go. Best 30 bucks I’ve ever spent.

As far as grooming the foundation is you beard wash/conditioner. I like cremo but there are a ton of good brands.

Boar bristle brush is an absolute must helps keep it groomed but also helps distribute your beard oil over all your beard

A good beard oil- gotta have it especially if you have an ethic beard I’m half Mexican half Spanish so my hair is super dry and coarse. I use Duke cannon from target that’s also my favorite beard balm.

Finally not as many agree with me but a beard straightener. Not a hot comb but a dedicated beard comb with ionic heating. Helps keep the beard looking groomed and it’s a must for shaping you can’t shape unless you know how much you’re really working with. Straightening my beard adds an inch or so just for reference lol.

3. A good beard oil, I like Duke Cannon you can get it a target it’s not too greasy and smells great

4. Beard balm, I also like Duke cannon brand it has beeswax in it so it keeps thick coarse facial hair styled after straightening.

I’m gonna recommend what I do to most everyone in here: a beard straightener. Once you have it straight you can shape it how you like and it keeps the fly always tamed. Also you need a good wash oil and balm. I like Duke cannon brand from target looks like your hair is coarse and it’s it best brand I’ve found to moisturize and hold a style. I’ll link the straightener it’s 30 bucks and makes a huge world of difference. For the patchiness try minoxidil on your face it seems to help alot of dudes on here and there’s also a minox beard sub.
