I did some testing last evening. I'm using the official Sony Bluetooth Stereo Headset. With that, I can hear the game sounds, my mic works, but I can't hear the voices of other drivers. I can see the speech bubbles next to their names.
If I turn it off and use my TV speakers, I do hear the voices. However, my mic won't work, obviously, because the headset is turned off.
There's a setting on the PS3, under accessories, to send all sound or just vice chat to the headset. I have it set to send all sound.
It's not supposed to work like that, so I don't know what's wrong. Any ideas?
I have another Bluetooth headset I can try.
Wireless Stereo Headset - Playstation 3 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0053OLY9O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_KB2mAb15AN0SY
I've had these for years but I've worn them down. I need something new and a little upgraded. I would prefer something nearly identical to this, (usb dongle and all) but with more directional support for my pc. Should i just upgrade to the ps4 headset that's pc compatible?
I have a similar problem. One of my cats has PICA so he chews everything plastic/wires etc. I can't go corded on my headset because he would eat through it. I looked into wireless options and the PS3 Wireless headset ended up being the best for me. I just bought mine used for $40 CAD IICR
https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Stereo-Headset-Playstation-3/dp/B0053OLY9O
Like I said, a little expensive, but super nice headset! I've had mine for a few years and I don't regret dropping that money.
I know it says ps3, but they do work with ps4 and my laptop. It has a bluetooth USB device that you pop into a USB port and off you go.
Hmm interesting. I wish there was a store I can go to and try out various headsets because it's really hard to know without actually hearing them.
This is my current headset and I've had it for 4 years. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0053OLY9O/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It works very well, blocks out all over noises, has good audio quality, is wireless and really seems to let me hear positions well. I say seems to because I game with some guys that have Astro headsets and I'm calling out things like "Reaper back left, etc" and none of the people with the Astros seem to hear it so either these are better than the Astros or I just have better hearing than they do. No one complains about my mic sounding bad or anything.
What it's been doing as of late is blacking out on me for 10 seconds. So I'll be playing and it drops signal so I can't hear or say anything and then it comes back. It's annoying. But there is so much conflicting info on headsets that I'm struggling making a decision. I mean these were $80 headsets and I'm rather happy with them all around except for this recent signal drop issue and I've had them 4 years so I'm hesitant to spend the $300 on Astros or the $150 on Senns without knowing that they are at least as good if not potentially better than the $90 PS4 Gold Headset I could get instead.
was that these ones?
https://www.amazon.ca/PS3-Wireless-Stereo-Headset/dp/B0053OLY9O
And this NEW one hasn't even been seen in the wild yet, afaik... so how can you say the old old ones were better? (just eyeballing, but the hinge in particular looks better than the Golds)
I'm still using theis (PS3 headset)[https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0053OLY9O/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1]
Is this an upgrade? My headset cuts out on me sometimes and I'd like it if I didn't have to plug in a dongle when I wanted to use them.
Few years ago I grabbed myself one of these and they were pretty awesome. It came with a usb bluetooth connector and once you plugged in the connector it would autoamtically connect to with the headset. The freedom of being able to watch a movie and not worry about cables was awesome. I got them on sale for 50 bucks, they seem more expensive now.
If you are really looking to go wireless there are some real good headsets out there. I just suggest doing tons of research before hand.
Budget: 150 usd ± 15usd, +50 for dac/amp if needed Source: android (htc a9), ipad air (1st gen), and sometimes my pc Requirements for Isolation: a little bit, i will use it only at home, roadtrips, or long flights Will you be using these Headphones in Public? nah, dont think so Preferred Type of Headphone: full size Preferred tonal balance: have no idea Past headphones: none, im new to good quality audio products ( only these for my pc and ps3 gaming lol ) Preferred Music: from rock to rap, pop and random remix so cant really tell Location: Lithuania but i think i will use amazon.com or other usa online shops. Additional notes: im newbie so dont blame me please :)
I don't know about your budget, but I had the Wireless Stereo headset for the PS3 the official one made by Sony and it worked fantastically for footsteps and directional audio. Granted, I'm not an audiophile like /u/72APTU72E, but it worked great for me so I thought I'd recommend it. I got it for about $90 online and it seems to be just above $100 on Amazon, but maybe you can find a deal somewhere. Happy gaming!
Instead of linking a google image search, how about the actual headphones? This page, for example
Apparently they work in stereo mode on a PC, not the full surround mode as for the Playstation
The Silver has a special dongle that plugs into the PS4 that you then plug the headset into. I found the Silver (as well as the Gold that a friend loaned me to try out) too small for my head. I ended up breaking the dongle (got crushed under a chair) so now to use it I have to plug it into the controller, which means no stereo sound, and it sounds like crap. As I mentioned in a previous comment, I picked up a used Sony PS3 wireless headset and it works great and feels comfortable for my giant noggin. It works well with Windows 7 as well.
To be clear this is what I am talking about. I got mine used for $40 off of Craigslist.
Some wireless headsets are perfectly fine, it just depends on build quality like it does for every other component.
I snagged a Sony PS3 Stereo Wireless a couple years ago for about $50 and it has been fantastic. I occasionally lose connection (maybe once every week or two) but it lasts for a few seconds then reconnects. I usually end up wearing it around my apartment and don't have disconnects.
I've been thinking about getting this headset for quite a while, but I already have the original Wireless Stereo Headset:
http://smile.amazon.com/Wireless-Stereo-Headset-Playstation-3/dp/B0053OLY9O/
I still think this would be a good upgrade due to the headset companion app and the AUX jack for usage on 3DS/phone/whatever. Has anyone else used both headsets that can weigh in?
the headset sales for 150 new and like 60 used http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Stereo-Headset-Playstation-3/dp/B0053OLY9O/ref=sr_1_24?ie=UTF8&qid=1425673315&sr=8-24&keywords=playstation+3+gaming+headset
Ty for the input, I'm thinking of just selling the games as a bundle, ive seen weaker bundles go for what i want.
What headsets you guys recommend? My brother uses this one and love it. http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Stereo-Headset-Playstation-3/dp/B0053OLY9O/ref=sr_1_4/180-5351825-1052606?ie=UTF8&qid=1424971538&sr=8-4&keywords=playstation+3+stereo+headset
I bought the "Playstation 3 Wireless Stereo Headset" made by Sony. Amazon link HERE. They are great! Super comfortable. Audio is crystal clear. It has 2 volume sliders: 1 to raise and lower other players' overal chat volume and the other slider is for overal volume control. Mine charges fairly quickly and lasts about a week on full charge. What's great is that I also use this with my PC (via the Bluetooth USB stick it comes with) when I play DayZ and other games. Passlake has a great point - Dont buy cheap! In my experience spending a few extra bucks has always been a good decision.
This is a bluetooth headset as well, I just bought it for my ps3 and ps4 but I guess I will return it -.-
You mean the regular PS3 wireless headset? If so, that has a different design, so it doesn't really do much to ease my concern. I guess you haven't had the Elites for long enough to give me the news I was hoping to hear.
From the complaints, it seems people are saying the plastic connecting the band to the cups on each side may not be able to handle as much stress as one would hope for the price range. I've read the plastic there is hollow, too, so it may not be as sturdy as it appears. I'll continue to research, but if I were you I'd be very careful when putting on and removing the headphones - as in, never handle them by only the two ear pieces.
Well I have $200 stashed away which was supposed to go towards a gaming PC, but seeing as I recently got rejected from a job at Apple and won't have the extra cash I might as well just spend it on the Pulse headset...
Since I'm technologically retarded, the Sony Wireless Pulse Headset will work for sure with my old TV? I would hate to buy it and have it not work out.
Also, this headset
won't work with my TV?
If you can wait, they often go on sale at various retailers for ~$20 less. My wife got them for me for my birthday and I freaking love them. It resolved one of our marital disputes. The "Goddammit! I'm trying to sleep can you turn down your games/movie?" fight. The best part is that its usb based so you can just as easily use it for computer gaming as well. Speak of the devil...Amazon with free shipping
If your TV has the headphone jack, Pulse should work with it.
But it will work in one of those sitiations:
You plug the 3.5 cable directly from TV into the headset. You can hear your TV and PS3 games. USB dongle is not required, but your headset works like a wired one.
You plug the 3.5 cable into USB thing. USB dongle must be connected to the power source like working PS3, PC or TV(If it has USB ports). You can hear your TV and PS3 games. The headset is 100% wireless.
You plug the USB dongle into PS3. You don't need 3.5 cable for this one. You can only hear PS3 games. Other TV channels still use your TV speakers. The headset is 100% wireless and the quality is better than 3.5 cable.
You plug the USB dongle into PC. You can use it to play on PC and watch movies\play music.
For me, this headset was my first expensive audio hardware and I can really hear the difference so I use it for my PC and then plug it into PS3 when I want to play games. I don't use 3.5 because I don't watch TV.
Hope this helps. If you have any more questions, I'll try to answer.
> Also, this headset http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Stereo-Headset-Playstation-3/dp/B0053OLY9O/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1365575841&sr=8-2&keywords=sony+pulse+headset[1]
This will ONLY work with PC or if you plug it directly to PS3. You can use it to watch TV, but you can use it if you only need it to play games on PS3 or use it with your PC. It does not have the 3.5 input.
Omg I swear I have the biggest head ever. I wear XXL helmets that are NEVER carried in stores. My hat size is like an 8, I don't bother with hats because it just brings attention to my huge head
I use these btw http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Stereo-Headset-Playstation-3/dp/B0053OLY9O/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1334730649&sr=8-3
I plug in controllers (dualshock and Move) to charge, USB flash drive for game saves, Move camera, and the dongle for my wireless headset. with four things and only two ports, I'm pretty much always having to unplug something.
honestly save up for the Sony Bluetooth Stereo Headset. Its really good quality and under 100$. No connectivity issues and you have the surround audio on you, so no expensive speaker system if you don't want to and you can even get good stereo sound in the evening and at night. and also with this one, you wont be sending the game audio into your mic to other players which can be VERY ANNOYING. anyways my idea.
if you're willing to spend just under $100, get the official sony wireless headphones. http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Stereo-Headset-Playstation-3/dp/B0053OLY9O/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1344189984&sr=8-3&keywords=ps3+headset
they're $80 now on amazon. surround sound, wireless (usb dongle), works on ps3 and pc. surround sound only works on ps3 games though, not pc or netflix/movies(dvd/bluray).
I see them on sale frequently. I actually got mine for $65 new from amazon. They had them on sale briefly before they released. I see right now they are just shy of $90.
I did not know they were US-only. strange.
I have the Sony one, got it for $65. not exactly budget at normal price, but it's been great so far. it's not Bluetooth, it uses a USB dongle. but it is also supposed to work with Mac/PC.
I used the official Sony Bluetooth headset, and worked noticeably better than my generic Bluetooth Headset. plus it integrates with the PS3 (if you pair it right). I now use this, and so far it has been great.
I know it does not help, but I have been rocking this headset since it came out in July 2011. I still use them almost daily.

Budget - 100-120€
Source - My PC and my iPhone 5c
Isolation - I would like some, not full-isolation but maybe some noise cancelling would be great
Public? - Yeah, while travelling
Preferred Type of Headphone - Full-sized
Preferred tonal balance - Overall balanced
Past headphones - I only had a pair of PS3 Wireless Headphones, I used them with my PC via a wireless USB and I like having no cables and that they were comfortable to use. They died yesterday (the USB dongle did) and Im looking to replacing them
Preferred Music - I would mostly use them for gaming, but music-wise I like Jake Chudnow and OSTs like Interstellar
What would you like to improve on from your set-up - To use it on the go with my phone (no USB or base required), and to be lightweight
Location - Spain, so amazon.es
Current Idea - The ones I feel satisfy better my needs are the Sony MDRZX770BNB. However, Im not too sure about the microphone quality (some reviews say its ok, others say its terrible). So, what do you think about this option?
Thanks for your time and answers :)
Unless they changed the design, you want to stay away from Gold's. The hinges on those things are almost guaranteed to break within a few months of use. I've had it happen on 1 set, and figured it was a fluke. Should've read Amazon reviews before ordering a second set. Same issue - here's the pic of both sets, I crazy glued the first one, and taped the second: http://imgur.com/a/p3OLq I'll never buy another Sony headset after getting fucked twice, especially not one with pointless hinges.
And I was real careful with both sets as well. In fact I have an 8 year old PS3 7.1 headset that still works great without any mechanical issues. But that one wasn't designed by a bunch of retards that decided put a shitty plastic hinge in it.
EDIT: Nope, they didn't change the design, still plenty of broken hinge issues reported by Amazon reviewers: https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R31UMFBTKN22VH/ref=cm_cr_dp_d_rvw_ttl?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B00HVBPRUO
Here's a video someone put up of how this garbage hinge breaks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2-r2xXu2yA
This is what I have currently https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0053OLY9O/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
And they sound amazing and they were only $80 but it seems to be dropping signal often as of late.
There is no model afaik, it's just this one:
https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Stereo-Headset-Playstation-3/dp/B0053OLY9O
I have a pair of these and they are decent. I'm sure there are alternatives out there.
Or how about wireless for $100 bucks:
http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Stereo-Headset-Playstation-3/dp/B0053OLY9O
I have a set of these, they are awesome and work on PC.
You are talking about this one, right? Is the sound quality that much better? Because I use the original one and I think it sounds great. What about the Pulse Elite Edition? Does anyone have experience with those?
Sounds like it's this one. Sorry, can't really say I know what the problem is, as I have no experience with it, but it's most likely losing sync for some reason or another.
If you haven't tried yet, you could attempt to reset the headset? Best of luck to you!
I'm here to ask about two PlayStation official headsets.
I have the Wireless Stereo Headset and was thinking about upgrading to the Gold Wireless Stereo Headset for PS4 due to its custom sound profiles.
Does anyone know if this would be a worthy upgrade, or are the two similar enough that it wouldn't be worth it? I wanted some advice from someone who's used both before I bought. Thank you!
either that or the ps3 headset, or pulse elites. all same setup. USB handles it all. but for the price, gold are the way to go.
edit: actually seems like the ps3 ones don't work with ps4
These are the ones I have;
http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Stereo-Headset-Playstation-3/dp/B0053OLY9O
These? If so then yes, they work.
yea I'm in the same boat. can't decide which headset i want. Its either the x12's (chat cable required) or p11 for wired headsets or the px3 for wireless set up. Im also considering sony wireless headset but i can't find any confirmation of whether they work with the PS4. and I'm really looking for wireless set ups since it seems turtle beach headsets need to be plugged in through the usb on the PS4 AND connected to the tv. Huge mess of wires that i don't want especially with a wireless controller. defeats the purpose of a wireless controller but I'm just considering my options money wise.
Edit: added links
and another option you might like are the Tritton kunai headset Those are plug in play into the PS4 controller. I didn't want these because I'm also looking for a PC/mac compatible headset.
Already dropped by $25 on amazon. :)
Wireless Stereo Headset - Playstation 3 by Sony Computer Entertainment http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0053OLY9O/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_HTKIsb0J6ZW2C
These ones? I can get them for $77 from where I work, though Camelcamelcamel.com says they have been $65 on amazon before.
I have this one and really like it. It's worked fien for me for over two years now. I paid $65 for it though. not sure it is worth the current asking price of $87.
The official Sony headset is really good.
Check this out on AMZN: Wireless Stereo Headset http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0053OLY9O/ref=cm_sw_r_an_am_ap_am_us?ie=UTF8
if you are talking about this headset, the answer is no, it does not isolate much at all.
If you are talking about the Pulse Elites, I can't say, though the ear-cups look very similar.
Is that the PS3 wireless headset on your monitor?
http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Stereo-Headset-Playstation-3/dp/B0053OLY9O
And if so how do you like it?
I paid $65 delivered for the official PS3 stereo headset when it came out, and I think it works great. currently amazon is selling them for about $86.
i think you are better off with an integrated gaming headset, like the official Sony one.
accurate positioning of sounds is in a competitive game like BF3 is worth it.
I've seen a couple of deals for the Pulse headset, getting it close to the $100 mark, and if it gets below $100 I will be tempted. Do you have the previous Sony PS3 headset, and if so, how does the new one compare? some folks said the previous version was uncomfortable, but I find it to be one of the more comfortable gaming headsets I've ever used. The ear-cups on the new one look like maybe the space for your ear is a little smaller though.
Also, I think it is funny that Sony evidently retroactively renamed the original headset.
nope. you can buy the Sony wireless headset, which uses a USB dongle, and get everything.
you should keep an eye out for the next sale on the official Sony wireless headset.
I like folding@home, because science. I think PS+ is worth the $50/year. I hardly ever use the Move controller, but I also don't use Kinect on my 360 all that often. the official Sony wireless headset is quiet nice, but they also have a new (more expensive) model.
That is the new Slim ps3, which I own. The official sony headset is awesome. I got it from Amazon for $64 used, but I'm from the US. Look through these for the controller deals
I like them, but I only paid $65 for mine. they are only $80 at amazon right now.
I'm up for it. Just got my headset and I think good team play is as good as it gets.
I have this and I really like it, surround sound, wireless, great microphone, and good battery life. http://www.amazon.com/Sony-98085-Wireless-Stereo-Headset/dp/B0053OLY9O/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1320815187&sr=1-1
I get this with Bloodborne, too. I am using the OG headset though.
Now there are actually 3.
Best ones (and newest model) are the Gold.
I wish I had a better mic, but all I've got to work with is one of these, is that okay?
i have one of these, and highly recommend it. there's a slider to adjust the volume, and another to change the sound/chat balance, so if you're in a lobby with lots of innane chatter, you can quickly and easily turn it off.
