You need to read this book. You are being so stubborn/thickheaded I can't stand it.

Yeah, I'm going to go ahead and pass on that book. If I'm going to read feminist rhetoric I'd usually go with peer reviewed articles instead of... whatever this is. The second I saw that it featured "poetry" to get its point across I realized that this book is probably not for me. A non-fiction book that poetry and prose to substantiate an argument probably isn't particularly convincing or logical.
Also to respond to your other point:
> You could say that about any appearance-oriented thing. Why don't we all just give ourselves buzzcuts and walk around in gray jumpsuits? We all like to express our identity through our clothing. Is this not obvious, jeez.
We express our identities TO OTHERS through clothing. This I understand completely. Clothing can be like shorthand for people that don't know you - it can help them understand you through your sense of style. But why would you need that only for yourself? Surely you can understand yourself without putting on clothing and staring at yourself in the mirror? And supposing one's self-identity is completely reliant on what they wear, I imagine that they'd be an incredibly shallow person.
