These are the ones I have. Nothing special, but get the job done

Nothing like The US Nats at Indy. My dad took me to my first one in 88 when I was 6…I missed my first one since last year as I moved to the western US and couldn’t make it back. I got to go to the Vegas race…it just isn’t the same as Indy though.

I hear you brother, I got these for yardwork, and snowblowing.

I use these when doing yardwork. They reduce noise by about 24dB. These include an FM radio, but there are plenty of options.

Active Noise Cancelling generally only works above a threshold (82dB for most shooting muffs), or with lower octave sounds than you are likely dealing with. So they may not be worth the extra money.

3M WorkTunes! I have the wired ones and run the AUX cable down through my shirt and plug it into my phone in my pocket. The radio option works extremely well also. They are comfortable, durable, and they are actually ear muffs as well, so they can be used without any entertainment. I mow commercially and they have held up to a few months of beatings. I would recommend them 10/10

My dad started running again seriously in the late 80s. I would remember him wearing headphones similar to these but obviously a little older, and less feature-packed.

They just played FM radio. He also had a walkman, I believe, and possibly later a CD player, but it's hard to get one that won't skip as you run. He switched to MP3 players in the late 90s or early 2000s.

He would do mainly street running, so he found a 5 mile path by driving his car around the neighborhood and paying attention to the odometer :P

Is it just you, or how many people? ... I went to my first Rolex on a whim in 2018, similarly to how you mention above (Flew in Saturday morning, rental car, got to daytona around noon, etc...) ...

• First advice: if you're renting a car from the airport, you basically pick any car you want on the 'level' or isle you rent from, so choose wisely (I found a small SUV and the extra room helped alot when i was changing clothes in the car.)
• Like others have said, it gets COLD! the few times ive been now, ive gone from full on winter attire to rain gear to shorts and a tshirt within the 24 hours I was awake
• Bring a few 'power bricks' to keep everything charged up on the go. (You're not gonna want to sit in your car waiting for things to charge) ... Power bricks are allowed on planes, just not in checked baggage, you put them in your carry on
• Bring cash and change with you for the Toll road leaving the airport to Daytona (I found it quicker, but who knows now with the way the construction is there)
• I bought these headphones to listen to the coverage on the local fm feed they have instead of renting a scanner. (TBH, I used them for those two days and returned them when I got home, haha)

Says 24db but i’m not sure how good of quality..

Commercial wise I don't think we are there yet, most still have the jacks. These are good but all have jacks, I use Howard Leights for shooting, not this particular one but they have a great fit. I have used the original Peltors about 6 years ago and 3m's for the last couple of years. Too hot in Florida summers, just use plugs now.

I bought these -- don't have much use for the FM tuner but they have an aux port.

They also sell a bluetooth version, but I'm happy with the wired ones.
