You shouldn't let birds nest on top of the AC.

Birds can do their business right into the AC and it might blow up in your face, and that's not including the different disease you may get if you're allergic as commented below.

if you can find a way to figure out how to keep it from flying in the strong wind (depends how high up you are, how isolated, looks like you don't get a whole lot of wind from the vid because buildings are blocking it) it works pretty well, I'd say 70% of the time.

If you want something more effective but also less friendly toward the birds you can try some bird spikes (find them on amazon) which is what you see on bridges etc. The birds actually very seldom fly into these, but if the thought of a pigeon stuck on one of this one morning gives you nightmares, use the tape... (that was my issue)
