There's a really good book on this subject: http://www.amazon.com/You-Shall-Not-Kill-Murder/dp/081465214X
In summary, it would change what you wrote to: "Thou shalt not kill" would be more conveniently translated today as "thou shalt not murder".
> Get your facts steight. The 10 commendments order you not to murder.
The Hebrew word has a much broader range of meaning than "murder". In fact, entire books have been written about it.
> The author (an associate professor of Hebrew and Aramaic Scripture at a Christian Theological Seminary) argues that the recent decision to translate "murder" is not only erroneous but that it is damaging to those communities, Jewish and Christian, for which biblical texts carry special authority.
There is no moral justification for killing someone just because they are a different faith or disagree with you.
> Again, don't pretend to be an expert which you are not.
I do love it when you are so /r/confidentlyincorrect.
> Pretending like wars wouldn't have happened without religion is nonsense
Who made that claim? Lying is a sin remember, your soul is in danger :)
> The ruling class would have come up with another reason for violence.
The Crusades, in just one example, were explicitly about religion. Without religion they would never have happened. Those Catholics murdered a bunch of Jews on the way to the Holy Land too, simply for being Jews.
> I never said that Hindus and Buddhists can not be moral.
Who said you did?
> Neither did I paint you as a monster.
Also you -
> an unjustified feeling of superiority, thinking that you are enlightened while everyone else is stupid or immoral?, Your self-proclaimed wokeness and absence of religion has not made you a more rational or decent person, that is for sure.
Just some examples of the insults you have been throwing around.
> Buddhists often have an, in my opinion, undeserved positive reputation as being more peaceful than other religions. But I don't know enough about them to realy judge.
So you make a judgement, then admit you don't have a damn clue. What happened to "judge ye not lest ye be judged"?
Buddhists absolutely are more peaceful than Christians, I know because I live in a country that is 97% Buddhist.
> Atheism as the absolute conviction that god does not exists is a religion in itself
Utterly false. Is not believing in the tooth fairy a religion? How about Santa Claus? It is simply a statement that god doesn't exist, as there is zero evidence to prove it. There is nothing "religious" about it, it is a lazy and stupid argument made by desperate followers of religion.
> because you will never be able to fully prove it.
I don't have to prove it, you have to prove God does exist. Prove to me the Flying Spaghetti Monster doesn't exist if you think otherwise.
> Painting other as followers of some primitive bloodcult though they have done nothing to you is not monstrous
As a moral individual, I find people who do harm to others are just as offensive as people who do harm to me. You clearly do not, given your statement. Most religions (there are exceptions) are indeed primitive (based on Bronze Age understanding of the universe) and obsessed with murdering any opposition.
> its just looking down at others and sad.
I already said my main feeling is pity, I would rather they didn't need the crutch of religion and could enjoy life to the full. What is sad is people being abused and conned so liars can take their money, tithes for example, and literally kill them, see HIV and condoms.
> Those who need to improve their self-esteem by mocking others, in my opinion, have more important problems than being upset about the religious fanaticism of others at another time or place.
I am not mocking people with religion, as I said I know many religious people and the country I live in is far, far more religious than your country most likely. I am mocking you because you don't understand your own holy book or have any idea of its actual contents and exhortations to violence.
Oh and that's another attempted insult from you. Your soul is in imminent danger! :)
