Read Zealot: The Life & Times of Jesus of Nazareth if you ever get a chance. There were tons of people around the same time that were heralded as messiahs, that were "known" to heal and perform miracles, and that were invariably crucified. Another "messiah" in Roman records was named Jesus, since it was a super popular name ("Joshua").
Just one of them became popular enough after death for his followers to start a worldwide cult
Nah. I'm referring here to the historical Jesus of Nazareth, not the Christ figure of modern Christianity. Judea was under the rule of the Roman Empire during Jesus' life. He did not like that. He, along with many of the other messianic claimants of this era, were nationalists.
Probably, but not as the person you know from the Bible. Read Zealot by reza aslan https://www.amazon.com/dp/0812981480/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_mNGgybAWNHCWC
He looks at the person Jesus from a purely historical perspective.
Its not religious either it's more of an academic book.
Look into the historical Jesus. He might not be as saintly as he has been made out to be. A contest of who is better doesn't seem relevant to my point.
I too grew up with deep love for who I understood both the historical and mythological Jesus to be. If you read "Zealot", you will have a much greater and more accurate understanding of who the historical Jesus actually was. If you refuse to read it because you fear it will shake your faith, please sit with that sentiment for a while and consider the implications.
If you want a historical assessment of the historical figure, I recommend this book, "Zealot". It's really well written and it has clear research without being too academically heavy to read. http://www.amazon.com/Zealot-Life-Times-Jesus-Nazareth/dp/0812981480
Dude, double plus for History of God and Jesus, Interrupted.
There's also Zealot: The Life And Times of Jesus of Nazareth by Reza Aslan. It will 1,000% change your view of Jesus and Christianity. He covers how Christianity came out as, pretty much, poorly interpreted Judaism + Romanism.
Also, look up John Shelby Spong on YouTube. He's an Episcopalian bishop (I think) who has some very comforting interpretations of the bible. Comforting in that they aren't insane. He has a YouTube talk (pressed for time or else I'd find it for you) about how hell is an invention of the church to keep poor people stupid and afraid.
Possibly. One of the best books on the subject (although I'm sure strict Christians will call me a "heathen" or whatever...especially his other "major" book preached a lot about Islam, but he's still a great religious scholar) is Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth by Reza Aslan. The book focuses a bit too much on "trivial" details of the region but the pertinent details of "Jesus of Nazareth" are really interesting.
Wa alaikum assalam
I don't think this is what you're referring to but I'll throw it out there. There is this book by a religious scholar (don't think he's a Sheikh) about Isa AS.

It got a lot of attention because Fox News couldn't believe a Muslim wrote a book about Jesus, leads to a very entertaining interview.
Just to confirm, is this the book?: https://www.amazon.com/Zealot-Life-Times-Jesus-Nazareth/dp/0812981480/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=the+zealot&qid=1596121823&s=books&sr=1-2
It definitely looks compelling.
Reza Aslan wrote one.
