I'm dyslexic.
Dyslexic fonts help some people, but I am not one of them. The ones that do improve reading speed and clarity do it too much. I'm used to having my eyes loop over words frequently as I read, and because I do not have to do that as much to recognize words I start passing over text too quickly to absorb the information. (Another issue is some dyslexia fonts like to use thinner lines on the top of the letter & get thicker as you go down, which makes the text flash for me and get harder to read.) Definitely see if your daughter benifits from dyslexia fonts, but don't pay for dyslexie. Go with Open Dyslexic which is free so you haven't wasted $70 if it doesn't help her.

The thing that worked best for me was having a normal font printed at a normal thickness, in liquid ink (NOT TONER,) on a matte pastel paper. Green and blue were the best for me. Bright white printer paper with super black toner can be physically painful for me to read.
Tracking (keeping something under the text you're reading) is helpful too, but if you really want to maximize the benefit you get from tracking, go with something discrete. Something close to the color of the paper the text is printed on. I used to use white budgie feathers (I kept budgies as a kid) because they matched the paper pretty closely, didn't block much of the surrounding text, and weren't distracting like a clicky pen might be.
Oh, and regular highlighters are the opposite of helpful. At best, highlighting/annotating is a distraction when I'm trying to read. At worst, the super bright neon over black text makes it harder to read the information marked as important. If highlighters are mandatory for your daughter, go with Mildliners in colors that work for your daughter. I like this set because dull colors are best for me. Gray is especially good.
Amazon sells them in a pack. https://www.amazon.com/Zebra-Highlighter-Mildliner-Color-WKT7-5C-NC/dp/B0027MA9FA/
I've also bought them at a Mitsuwa nearby. They sold them individually.
Hi! Those highlighters are Zebra Mildliners. I got the full pack (25 highlighters + 5 brush pens) at Costco for $30, but you can also buy specific color packs on Amazon. My favorite colors are from the packs "Noble" and "Refined" which are the colors you see in my spreads.
