Great job! And happy cake day! I got really bad shin splits when I started the program. I suggest something like these.
They're a pain in the butt to get off once they're drenched in sweat, but the shins splints will happen less and less often. I rarely use mine anymore.
Just keep going! The best thing you can do is be consistent. Remember, it isn't a race (yet!). You're just trying to condition your body to jog for ~45 minutes straight. When you start feeling the progress you'll feel a lot better about it.
