I'm a great ERB fan, altought I consider myself a metalhead, and everytime they release a new song/rap battle. I go to this site just to make sure I understood all reference. These guys are fucking genius! They have so many reference, it's hard to keep up without doing a reaseach!

PS: We have a not so common word to 'flyte', too, in the BRAZILIAN portuguese, it's "Repentão". :)

This paper seems like a good starting point. It's got a heck of a lot of footnotes and about 7 pages of bibliography.
