I have one of these Bluetooth OBDII adapters and use it with the Torque app.
This setup gives me a variety of real-time information like temp and boost.
I use this Bluetooth OBDII adapter and the Torque Pro app.
Also gives you boost/vacuum readings, which is nice.
This is the one I got, I believe the medium size. It does the job (you have to lower the visors to hold it in place), but I whack the passenger with it every time I take it out.
great point. I went out and looked at mine (2017 1.4l) and the part number is stamped onto the side of the hose. GM Part# 55596898

This was for a 2015 RS, so not sure if it is the same for the 2017 and up models, but I used an RCA to Bare Wire Cable and crimped it to 2 wires from the harness. http://www.sonicownersforum.com/forum/threads/where-is-the-oem-backup-camera-signal.20089/ has details on the harness and pins 7 & 8 are the wires for the video feed.
I used max tow gauges from amazon
Water temp MaxTow Double Vision 280 F Water Coolant Temperature Gauge Kit - Includes Electronic Sensor - Black Gauge Face - Blue LED Illuminated Dial - Analog & Digital Readouts - for Trucks - 2-1/16" 52mm https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MU7QB3T/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_PK8MZ4NHFSJ5D9SAY6BD
Battery voltage MaxTow Double Vision Volt Voltmeter Gauge - Voltage Range 8 - 18 Volts - Black Gauge Face - Blue LED Illuminated Dial - Analog & Digital Readouts - for Trucks - 2-1/16" 52mm https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01G7SBV5G/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_5YPM1FD6ASZ2C89EPQKZ
Wiring for these is pretty simple for battery you just need a power and ground
Temp you need to pass a wire through the fire wall for a coolant temp sensor and cut your radiator hose in half to install a fitting for the sensor
Then for auto dimming with the headlights a spliced the wire into the same dimming wire for the radio
They also make these which may or may not fit: 8MILELAKE 24inches Flexible Hose Clamp Plier Wire Long Reach Compatible for Car Truck Fuel Oil Water Pipe Repair Tool https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076CFTTLF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_8QBD4HBP2FJN1WWV0A5E
Time for more tools, you’ll use them later in another project. Get a set of long nose needle nose pliers like these or risk damaging the radiator and have to replace it. This is what I swapped mine with. You’ll need to thread the knurled rod that you rip the old knob off of. I left the factory lockout in place and it works just fine with the new knob.

I’m trying to go a cheaper route because it’s a work car. Would an adapter work like this? Like others have mentioned, you can get an engine temp reading through a digital gauge. An analog gauge would require some light modication.
Something like this can be installed inline in the cooling system. It's been done before on the Cruze and Sonic forums. Not as simple, but it will give you true coolant temps at whatever point you'd like/is most appropriate.
I don't know if this helps because I needed winter wipers, but I use them all year long (the only difference is that they are better encased to prevent freezing). I couldn't find (windshield or hatchback) of the windshield wipers for my 2014 Sonic hatchback at the local auto stores either. But I found these on Amazon. The longest is a tiny bit longer (at 26") so on super rare occasion (like once a year) this does cause some issues with an overlap of the wipers, but (so far) it makes a super loud SNAP sound (I always jump a foot) and that is it; no damage to the wipers or the window. If you don't like the wipers I listed below, I do believe you can buy just the adapters also, but I might be wrong. The wipers I bought came with the adapters. Good luck!

I’m just wondering, I’m looking to get all the parts and have Best Buy install them at some point.
If I go to Crutchfield, they only have the cheaper Metra 99-3012G-LC available to purchase, and I can buy their ReadyHarness service separately. But, if I get it from Best Buy, they have the more expensive Metra 99-3012G installation kit available. I’m sure I’d need the more expensive kit, but I chatted with Crutchfield, they said I’d have everything I’d need to put it together myself (also have to get the antenna adapter and steering wheel control interface separately). Do you have any idea if I need to get the more expensive kit - which is currently sold out at Best Buy and directly from Amazon, but the cheaper kit is available right now at Amazon and Crutchfield.
you should get a cheap bluetooth ODBII sensor like this one:
https://www.amazon.com/BAFX-Products-34t5-Bluetooth-Android/dp/B005NLQAHS
Then you can read the codes causing the check engine light yourself and you could post em here and maybe someone can help
