Lightworks is a free video editing program that is very robust for the price.

I don't think it has to be perfectly scripted, but I think you should at least have an outline so you can stay on topic. I'd also do another take if you find yourself losing your place or stammering throughout the middle of a sentence.

Once you get some experience using the tools, I'm sure you can merge two good takes together and edit over any minor mistakes.
