There are some pretty solid, non-permanent options for optics.

One is by BadAce, it replaces the ladder sight with a picatinny rail, includes a space for stripper clip loading and casing eject. No drilling/modifying the gun. SKS guys have said these are pretty good for red dots.

The other replaces the dust cover with a railed version. have to get a specific type of scope for it though, too long and it'll interfere with loading.

I'm using a riser. I thought about milling it but didnt want to potentially fuck it up.

I tried the C&H performance riser, the front lugs were only half the size of normal lugs and the screws they sent were too long. Even after contacting them stating I had a hellcat and asked for the proper length screws, the new ones they sent were still too long and the exact same size as the original ones.

ordered an amazon one for half the price...full size lugs, screws are the perfect size. Much happier with this one.
