He wrote an entire book called Mafia Cop: The Story of an Honest Man Whose Family was in the Mob. So it seems like he was pretty good at running his mouth about all his mob buddies while pretending to be one of the good guys. Hope he had a shitty time in prison.
Gentile’s book is in Italian, but earlier he gave an account as well to the FBI who interviewed him in Sicily. There’s also this excellent issue of the Informer journal that delves in depth into Gentile’s life and narrative:
Great post, I LOVE Emily Sweeney, for an outsider she really knows her stuff.
Not sure if you noticed, it wasn’t prominent, but there’s a pic of Georgie McLaughlin in the upper right hand corner of page 1 from his trial.
I can’t tell you how many McLaughlin family members are still around the Boston area. They’re like cockroaches, there’s so so many of them and almost all the men are named either George, Bernie and Edward after 3 of the brothers involved in the gang war. They’re all half ass criminals and wanna be thugs living off a name from 60’s years ago.
CT-CT, that’s great you’ve been looking into the McLaughlin gang. It’s strange there is a fraction of info on them compared to the WHG. Guess it had to do with WHG winning and the whole Whitey Bulger myth wrapped in.
One book you absolutely MUST check out is a raw, almost amateurish type book written a few years ago by McLaughlin gang member Francis “Gaga” Murray. Gaga was the real deal and in the midst of the war with them. Even though he eventually lived in Southie, his heart and allegiance was 💯 % with Charlestown. He tells the story as it really was; how growing up Whitey wasn’t much, how Buddy McLean put Somerville and WHG on the map and for an old man he happens to go into graphic detail of many of the women he and the McLaughlin’s slept with.
Gaga died a few years ago but up to the end of his life he was feisty as hell and known for his all night BBQ/parties even into his 80’s. I linked it below, if you belong to kindle plus it’s free if not it’s fairly inexpensive but well, well worth it.

This is the link to his book. The Amazon algorithm is recommending other ground-breaking books like Gianni Russo's and Frank Sheeran's for a reason...

Dominick Montiglio was never in the Green Berets, but the sort of people that like to believe what they want to believe cannot be swayed by evidence that contradicts that.
great collection! Do you have "On The Run" by Henry Hill's kids. It basically picks up where Goodfellas ends. https://www.amazon.com/Run-Mafia-Childhood-Gregg-Hill/dp/044652770X
I think I will copy your post and do the same with my books. thanks for the idea!
One other quick note, I see you’re from CT and post some CT related stuff. I just finished an amazing book that you should check out if you haven’t all ready done so. It’s called The Nutmeg Mafia: an informal history on organized crime in Connecticut.
It’s free on kindle now if you have a Kindle Unlimited subscription. Otherwise it’s $4.99. Regardless it’s so worth it. My knowledge is Boston, I had no clue how deep the history runs in Connecticut.
I'm by no means an expert, but there do seem to be many articles, reports, etc...indicating long standing relationships between the Outfit and CPD.
There's also this book (never read it myself, tho):

Get Utorrent or your program of choice.
Keep your VPN on so you don't get DMCA's from your ISP.
Find and download all the seasons in HD (1080p if you can, 720p doesn't look too bad depending on the rip.)
There's your Soprano's. How do you think I have the entire series ripped from Blu Ray?

This is a very good description of the early years. He talks about the drugs and the drug running and the violence. It's pretty vague when it comes to the later stuff for obvious reasons, and you have to take the self-aggrandizement with a grain of salt. But it is a good read, and as I said, is accurate with the early years.
It is good. Frank DiMatteo is the guy that did the AMA a few weeks ago. It's his first book, so it's kind of rough and unpolished. He redid that book later with alot of the same content. https://www.amazon.com/President-Street-Boys-Growing-Mafia/dp/1496705475
There's "The Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight" which is a novel based on his life. It was turned into a movie too (but a comedy, meh), but I haven't read or seen either.
There's a lot of good stuff on youtube though, hard to recommend anything since you say you've seen most documentaries.
Theres another movie 'Crazy Joe'...

and a book called 'Mad Ones', which looks interesting...

I remember reading some book a while ago, which went into some interesting detail about when he was 'going to the mattress' with his brothers (I think). Sadly I just cant remember what it was. I'll see if I can find it
Your obstinance is admirable in a way. In your prior comment you said “Warren Report. Good place to start.” But if you actually read any of the Warren Commission Report you’d know many people talked and many more were purposefully omitted or not questioned.
So many people talked. There’s actually a good book documenting all the people that talked about the assassination called Someone Would Have Talked. Your reasoning is actually proof of your ignorance. Of course you don’t think anyone talked, you have done any research.
Challenge accepted. The Road to Dallas clearly lays out the mob's involvement. It has 68 pages of just bibliographic citations as evidence supporting the argument. The fact that you think that evidence can be boiled down into a sentence or two reply on reddit shows you don't really understand how things like research and evidence work.
If you have no knowledge of ZR/RIFLE, JM/WAVE, Operation 40, or Operation Mongoose, how do those answering "no" justify their blind confidence against their obvious ignorance?
The best book detailing the mob's involvement is The Road to Dallas by David Kaiser. It is exhaustively researched. Once you read it you can either decide is if was a plausible conspiracy involving figures in the mob or a series of impossible coincidences.
Are you already aware that they are going to make a Heat 2? The book was released this year: amazon.com/Heat-2-Novel-Michael-Mann/dp/0062653318.
Michael Mann has spoken about filming it in a couple of interviews already!!
I would love to learn more about
-Joe Gioielli. He was supposedly one of the most feared men in the city at that time. And that isnt just from that one, awful book on Crazy Joe by that insufferable writer. It was his clothes that were thrown out of a car with a dead fish in them.
-Hugh Mcintosh- Persico's right hand man and muscle in the 60's, 70's. Irishman so he couldnt be made. Killed a lot of people and was a real nut. Not much about him.
-Arnold Rothstein- The book about him is weak and lacking information

*Just a side not, mentioning The Snake made me think of an amazing story in Chief, by Albert Seedman, the longtime NYPD chief of detectives. Great story about how he and his goons grabbed and shook down some thieves who had hit a good score. "Chinese pizza's" lol, you have to check it out. Other excellent stories in that book, too.

There is a great documentary about this period of gangster movies. It goes into ethnic characters and their actors in the doc. It was mostly about the Warner Bros. gangster films. Ironically I popped it the DVD player yesterday .

Greg Scarpa's FBI control agent from 1967-1973, Anthony Villano, discusses the incident in his book "Brick Agent." Villano uses two code names for Scarpa, "Nick Biletti" to describe the mobster and "Julio" for the person sent to Mississippi.

hmm no sorry, I'm not trying argue, it's just that everything I've read so far seems to be different than what you're saying.
The Outfit was basically founded by Jim Colosimo, and in 1909 Johnny Torrio came from Chicago to help run it. Al Capone didn't come to Chicago till 1919.
According to Nick Gentile, Al Capone was officially made in 1928 by Joe Masseria (Genovese Family), and was elevated to Capo and asked to make around 10 men. (This comes from a great issue of Informer that was well worth the cost if you're interested.) Nick Gentile, Augie Maniaci, and Joe Bonnano all reported that Capone was an inducted member of the Mafia.
I've also read that the Mafia began letting in mainland Italians in the early 1900's, with Frankie Yale as an example.
Do you have this book by Camille Varacali?
She's the wife of Sammy the Bull's first murder victim, Joey Colucci. Her story is pretty interesting, sh'es been married five times, four of her husbands were mob connected.
The book seems to be pretty rare, it's usually going for $50+ on Amazon and eBay.
I have not read this book, but you might want to give it a try. https://www.amazon.com/Little-Chicago-Organized-Kensington-Pennsylvania/dp/0692538925. It was written by a retired detective from New Kensington.
New Kensington, PA was an apparent hot-bed for LCN in the mid 20th Century. I only learned this second-hand from a former resident of New Kensington who was acquainted with a few of the made guys. One in particular was a gentleman by the name of Victor Carlucci.
Okay, now I'm really curious. My copy of Unsolved Murder puts the copyright at 2013 (it was publsihed in 2015) and the Amazon page for Head dates that one to 2013.
And claims Wiley published it, but it doesn't come up on a search in their website. Nor is there any significant info from a Google search.
It's possible he meant Vincent John Basciano, who later became the boss of the Bonnano family. If that is him, he has a pretty good book, https://www.amazon.com/Vinny-Gorgeous-Ugly-Rise-Mobster/dp/0762785411. I have a copy, but I don't know where it is, otherwise I would look and see if there was any reference to similar incidents. Someone welse might be able to help you out there. If not, remind me on Saturday and I'll look for it.
Yeah I know exactly what you’re talking about. The recreated conversations are such a put off for me in any book but this one over does it.
And I’ll be the first to admit Buddy was a legend, and without him things would have been very different, but the whole Superman aspect of it was a bit much.
Believe it or not, Buddy’s youngest son Michael wrote a book called “The Irish King of Winter Hill: The True Story of James J. "Buddy" McLean”
You can find it here; https://www.amazon.com/Irish-King-Winter-Hill-McLean/dp/1625166699/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?crid=1REZMLBMKL5S3&keywords=buddy+mclean&qid=1648064853&sprefix=buddy+mclean%2Caps%2C50&sr=8-2
Also, a local guy named Bobby Martini wrote a book on Somerville and the whole crew called “Citizen Somerville” which was decent. I know of Bobby and was a crooked MDC cop and a first class scumbag in my book and while I did find some stories that were not true, the bulk were.
You can find that here.

FBI Agent Bill Roemer chased The Outfit for 22 of his 30 years in the bureau. He wrote a detailed book about the Outfit and Tony Accardo shortly before he died.
In addition to the other really good recommendations I’d suggest two books by Jeff Coen - Family Secrets & Murder in Canaryville. Both cover more modern day (1970s and on) Outfit:
https://www.amazon.com/Family-Secrets-Case-Crippled-Chicago/dp/1569765456

John Dickie goes into some detail about this in his book.
Basically, he was a drugs trafficker, rather than a boss at the top of a hierarchy/Family like he had been in the US. His influence came from his connections with actual bosses who protected and shielded him, in return for drug money profits presumably, but he had very little actual power himself.
This is the version I listened to, which I assume is unabridged. I wish I could Men In Black myself and experience that listen all over again. Enjoy!
Just read the wiki page on Luciano. It said the same day, unbeknownst to Luciano, Italian drug agents had followed him to the airport with the intention of arresting him on drug smuggling charges.
Luciano's meeting at the airport was with American director Martin Gosch to discuss a film about his life. I couldn't find if a film had ever been made, but a book was written by the film director.
Hello, I'm a bot! The movie you linked is called Kill the Irishman, here are some Trailers
While someone can probably answer this right now, I think you will find the best answers to those questions on March 29, 2022 when "Sonny: The Last of the Old Time Mafia Bosses, John Sonny Franzese" will be published.

Hey there. I've been away from Reddit since I asked you about Casso's book. Anyway, I don't remember how, but I found a site, https://z-lib.org/, which is full of many eBooks about the mafia. Not all that I look for, but I have saved around 250 euros in eBooks.
No, it's my opinion gathered from a lifetime of dealing with fellow Canadians smug in their belief the country is great and we'll run.
Sam Cooper has some decent reporting on this. https://www.amazon.ca/dp/0888903014/
Streaming free on Roku. Saw that and thought what the...? They are kind of freaky anyway, they have their own internal mafia?

I watch it on Amazon Prime. It's free if you have prime.
For future reference, I use this website to look up any show or movie and see who has it.

I thought homosexuality was frowned upon in the mafia.
But for real fuck this guy and any health companies that advertise with him. NordVPN or Raid I could understand but mental health? Fuck outta here.
Not sure how much time you have for the project, but this is an excellent book about the different ‘rackets’ the NY Mob controlled, how they controlled them, the effect it had on everything in NY, and how they were prosecuted. Very good for research purposes. Can delve into some statistics from there.

What a coincidence. Also, this is a good question! I've been on this sub for seven months and I've never read anything about Vito Cascio Ferro (this is how to spell it correctly). Just a minute ago I was thinking about this and so I wanted to write a post about it. Now, Arrigo Petacco, an Italian writer who died a few years ago, wrote the first book on Joe Petrosino in 1972. The book also narrates part of Cascio Ferro's biography, his life in Sicily, emigration to the United States and influence it had on Giuseppe Morello, Ignazio Lupo and the Black Hand in general, which then led to the birth of the American Cosa Nostra, with what later became the Genoese family. It is one of my favorite books, especially the first part, despite excessively glorifying the figure of Petrosino. There is also a book by Mike Dash, The First Family: Terror, Extortion, Revenge, Murder and The Birth of the American Mafia, which tells of the origin of the American mafia, starting with the Black Hand. Vito Cascio Ferro's name is mentioned 38 times. I have this book, but I haven't read it yet.
Here you can find Mike Dash's ebook: The First Family: Terror, Extortion, Revenge, Murder and The Birth of the American Mafia. (I always prefer paper books.)
As for the book on Petrosino, I found an English version. The prices vary, from very expensive up to 9/15 dollars the cheapest. Haven't found a digital version of the book.
Hope I was helpful. Let me know.

This book is also about Vinny and supposedly written by a former friend? Did he allegedly contribute to that one or his more famous biography written by Anthony M. DeStefano?
Yup I watched Shackellhead's and Paul's interview with Gunner Lindbloom. Very interesting guy and yeah he did come from a mob family. But Lindbloom focuses a lot on himself and I didn't think he utilized his time well with Shackellhead to get the most insightful answers from him.
Carmine Sessa was indeed arrested at a church, but I think he flipped only after getting arrested at the urging of his wife.
https://www.amazon.ca/Brotherhoods-True-Story-Murdered-Mafia/dp/1416523383. This is about the Mafia Cops in the context of the Luchese Family during the Vic/Casso era.
Have not read it yet, but it's apparently a good book to cross reference stories between Casso's biography and Al D'Arco's biography on the whole situation in the late 80s, early 90s.
'It's Just the Way It Was: Inside the War on the New England Mob and other stories'.
To be honest I wasn't impressed with it.

The main book on this is Mafia Kingfish. Any factor or person that could have been involved is covered here.

The Outfit may have been aware, but people that we know were involved -Jack Ruby Lee Harvey Oswald - were connected to New Orleans, not Chicago.
A mini-series about that would be so good, or even like 3 seasons for each war or something.
This is all I could find book-wise specifically about the Colombo's:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Colombo-Family-History-Yorks-Mafia/dp/0228826616
This is a very good book, well researched and covers every family and how it all fits together. Selwyn Raab writes very well.

Not sure about Portland, but yes to Seattle. For Italian mafia specifically, the Colacurcio Family was the most visible/known entity. It has a pretty interesting history, mainly because he was a close friend/associate of Albert D. Rosellini, who served as Washington's governor from 1957 to 1965. There was also a scandal called Strippergate that related to the Colacurcio Family.
That said, it was a small organization and I don't believe they were firm on the Italian rule. I grew up down the street from his office for the adult nightclub empire (Talent West) and he had signs out front that said "Parking for Italians Only" but I think that was more of a gag than anything. This was all during the peak of "The Sopranos" on HBO when he became a known name in Seattle, and he kind of embraced it.
Here's a good book on the topic:
https://www.amazon.com/Seattle-Vice-Strippers-Prostitution-Crooked/dp/1570616612
Apart from Colacurcio (who was rumored to be connected to one of the 5 Families in some capacity), there is a large organized crime presence in Seattle with both Russian and Chinese groups. When I left in 2005, the Russian groups were pretty focused on car theft I believe, and the Chinese on gambling.
Seattle is a neat city. Really, any port city is going to have some sort of organized crime presence I think. Just too much opportunity for bad actors to make a quick buck.
This was a nice long and intriguing one
Amazon Prime Video has the best Mob documentaries.
It's the same. Check out the stoop and the door trim to the left in both of these pictures.

There is a documentary available with Amazon Prime that may be of interest to you:
https://www.amazon.com/Ravenite-Alec-Wilkinson/dp/B07M85Z1HF
And probably way more relevant to the current landscape than any of these other books listed.
Also Hit Men by Fredric Dannen. Touches on the mob's influence on the music industry that still goes to this day. IIRC there's pictures of Jimmy Iovine with the Gambino family? Not to mention Tommy Mottola or any of those other gangsters.
I have spoken to a few 'mob' types from New York and a couple from Chicago. They all said it was shockingly accurate. Whoever wrote/made the sopranos said they didnt copy a book, but there is a book called "Made Men". The sopranos is too close to it to be not at least heavily inspired by it. Its based on the DeCavavantes who are based in NJ.
Excellent book available on amazon:

See how we really, REALLY have come full circle in this classist, racist, rigged country? 100 fucking years ago we criminalized poor and ethnic people for running "contraband" during prohibition on Alcohol and now its the same exact situation with WEED.
Its POT people!!!! Legalize, tax and regulate it already!!!
I swear to god its to the point now where its almost like an out and out ethnic cleansing going on in this country. Thats how classist and racist the war on POT is.
That racist pig kennedy and his (crime) family illegally kidnapped and harassed Italians (anyone remember Carlos Marcello?) over POT in the 1950's and 60's for crist sake!!! The fucking KKK didn't do things that were as racist as the stunts the Kennedy family did while in office!
Kennedy was essentially AGAINST the civil rights movement in this country in the 60's he was such a racist and he proved it time and again with stunts like the one I just sighted. He was a suck up to the super rich, racist W.A.S.P. establishment. Then when the evil W.A.S.P. midget Nixon took the white house he criminalized all our grandchildren and the rest became history. The miserable, hypocritical drug war we live in now!
Wake up people!!!!
So now what are you dumb little kids guna do now hu? Praise fuckin Snoop Dogg an shit for growing/smoking weed but then criminalize people like this Italian guy (who actually IS honorable) for doing and being about the same extract thing!? Hmm??
