Wow whoever you talked to at the dealer was an idiot. Never go back there.
I've been eyeing this one
And it bolts on without any bumper work at all. There's a plastic panel that you will remove, and that's it.
Hey, congrats, it’s a nice car you have there! I’ve been in the same boat and ended up buying this cheap universal mat: https://www.amazon.ca/BDK-Heavy-Rubber-Cargo-Floor/dp/B00PV5F2L6 and cutting it to size with scissors. Figured I only need third row a few times per year and customized mats with third row support are much more expensive so I cheapened out.
I bought these ones, they are definitely doing a great job of keeping the leather from getting indentations.
I’ve got this one in my 2017 GT and I installed it myself in less than an hour. Cables are all hidden easily along the cable trays on the passenger side and then up into the ceiling along the back. Plenty of length in the cable.

I have a 2017 so I assume it’s the same....
I bought the same Curt hitch someone else posted from Amazon. I bought this harness and it seems to work fine. It is plug-and-play. The point where you connect the harness to the car’s wiring is tucked further behind the panel than the directions lead you to believe. But it’s there and not very difficult to connect.
I bought this one on Amazon CURT 13284 Class 3 Trailer Hitch, 2-Inch Receiver, Select Mazda CX-9 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01G42RQQS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_S20176YN5V556AJEH8VA?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 Used-Like New for $86.72 + tax. It was actually new. They have one right now for $91.83 Used-Like New.
There is a wiring harness which is just plug and play.
I went with the Mazda OEM one (part # TA0A-V0-360) as that was the only I found that works with the 3rd row seats up or down. Before that I had tried the 3D MAXpider (https://www.amazon.com/3D-MAXpider-Custom-All-Weather-Select/dp/B071V5ZKVG) and that was great when the 3rd row was down, but all scrunched up when the 3rd row was up.
No this is on a '22 with AWD!
I got this one from amazon - it works great for my car but they're finicky so depending on year and model ymmv!
4 humans and two dogs checking in here. We have a 90 & 60 pound dog and they do just fine on long road trips behind the 2nd row. My go-to setup for road trips with the dogs is a Reese hitch mounted cargo basket with the Reese bag as well. Bag height is perfect so that you can still open rear hatch when the bag is full and the pups can still get out fairly easily. Tighten the hell out of the hitch bolt and get a hitch stabilizer as well, and you should be all set for quite a while.

I had this one in my 2021 RDX and moved it to the CX9 - other than some weirdness where CP will overlay the Mazda OS (resolvable by turning off the screen and then back on), I've had no issues. Ironically, since using this dongle - Waze's GPS has been much more reliable than when being wired in.
Has anyone bought one of these: https://www.amazon.com/SportRack-Vista-Opening-Cargo-Black/dp/B00BCLL8C0/. I can't afford the $800 Thule boxes unfortunately and wondered if this was a decent cheaper option.
Actually never mind I found them here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZ0RF54/. Saying 2016-17 only threw me off, but after a bit more research it seems these should fit a 2021 model as well, given there have been no design changes.

Here you go. I went with the black because it looks nicer.
I bought the 3D Maxpider from Amazon. It is good to cover the 3rd row and the trunk
3D MAXpider Cargo Custom Fit All-Weather Floor Mat for Select Mazda CX-9 Models - Kagu Rubber (Black) https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B071V5ZKVG/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_8Y3B4MFR2QQEHPM8VE74?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I added a kenwood head unit and kept the controls using a combination of harnesses. Make sure you get the https://www.amazon.com/PAC-RP4-MZ11-Replacement-Steering-Interface/dp/B0095UH3O2 to be able to control the clock, mileage, etc on the dash console. Had to do another installation after the METRA did not do that. Can say I am completely happy with the installed functionality now.
I bought these 3D MAXpider L1MZ05701509 All-Weather Floor Mats for Mazda CX-9 CX9 2016 2017 2018 2019 2020 2021. For the cargo, I bought the OEM cargo mats since I wanted to be able to fold the 3rd row independently but still cover it.
I have the WeatherTech for the 2nd row and while I do like that it covers the middle hump (non captain chairs) and that the edges are raised, I find that the mats from WT are kind of flimsy. The tall sides that are raised, I have noticed that it is starting to "cave" / lean in. As a result of this, I often find debris lodged between the cars side wall and the floor mats.
I recall some members suggested the Husky liner... I don't have any experience on these, but, just another option.

For the cargo area, I use the Mazda CX-9 Rubber Cargo Tray Genuine OEM - Mazda (0000-8B-N10) because it allows independent folding of the 3rd row.
I Also keep one of these in the car for situations like this.
It took us a few tries, but we now have a great system for our kayaks on my 2011 GT.
Starting out with a set of Yakima Timberline Towers on the stock roof bars.
Attached some nice wide JetStream bars with two sets of SweetRolls (do you think I like Yakima or something?) that allow the two kayaks to sit flat, as opposed to turning into giant sails like they do with J-Hooks.
I always recommend using front and rear straps in addition to the two rack straps. I found some hood loops that anchor to the body under the hood, and then I have this insane step on the back that I attach the rear straps to. It also works as a step to let me double check that everything is solid.
With the boats in j-hooks, it was a lot more likely to catch a gust of air and really feel it pull on the vehicle. They are much better flat, and I have driven for hours on the interstate with no problems.
It does reduce gas mileage a bit, but that is to be expected.
I have these 3D MAXpider Mazda CX-9 CX9 2016-2020 Custom Fit All-Weather Car Floor Mats Liners, Kagu Series (1st & 2nd & 3rd Row, Black) for our 2019 Signature. It’s a perfect fit.
I chose the OEM Cargo Liner so I can fold the 3rd row seats separately.
Hood tie down loops.
Here are some that Yakima makes, but I think there are even less expensive ones out there.
These bolt to the frame of the car under the hood, which I prefer, there are others that just wedge under the hood if bolts aren't available.
