Let me add that before we had covers, we used these. Not nearly as elegant, but certainly works. So if these appeal to you, go for it: Amazon Basics External Hard Drive Portable Carrying Case https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00F5CKWBA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_0HF3CPG9F8M6M2TSXH68?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I've had the Lua Reference Manual and the LÖVE wiki open continuously since I started writing this thing. Beyond that, it depends on how much programming/development you already are familiar with.
For quick art conversions you'll need https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mp4android.onebit ; it just filters for photos and images into 1-bit, but sometimes you need to see how things will look B&W at low rez right now to decide what direction you're going to take
I've tried several hard cases, this one has the best fit so far. I also have someone designing a 3D printed case that will fully protect the console and crank. Will post it up on this thread when complete.
Had to get this, after I realised, that I had entirely coincidentally bought these switch joycons months before my playdate arrived!: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Nintendo-Neon-Purple-Orange-Joy/dp/B07VHR4Y8G
I found this book light that might work as a temp. The color looks close, and I think you can clip it to the front flap of the case when its folded behind the console. For ten bucks I'll try it out.
I got one, link below - try looking up any MagSafe Duo case. I do not have my play date yet so I can’t tell you how well my specific one works yet.

So far this screen protector is great.

Looks like the handles could stand to be a bit wider based on how it looks in the hands.
And I have an idea! You could pretty easy build a slot on the backside for a rechargeable book light to slide into. That might be a nice addition.
There's aren't a lot of USB-C passthrough docks, and Panic's decision to place the USB-C port off-center makes it a bit more awkward, but you could use this one, which I own.

I've got something similar to this:

It should work fine.
