I think the grip texture on the SD9VE is pretty aggressive and I don't like it that much.
Talon Grips are a great option, but I also like Traction Grips which are about half cost.
Actually I use a Hogue grip. It fits amazing and does everything I was hoping for. You just have to make sure you get the right size. I went through a couple before I found the one that worked perfect. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004WYH00S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_00E6DYXFASAMPKJE3YNJ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Concealment Express. Picked it up an Amazon.
Like the others suggest: train, train, train. But ammo is expensive (particularly these days) so I'd recommend a lot of dry fire training. I use one of these laser cartridges and the "LaserHIT" app on my iPad. Highly, highly recommend.
Everyone's got a different take on holsters and how much you should spend. If you want something very affordable to start training with, without any bells and whistles, I've had great success with the CYA Supply Co ones. I have three of them; they're about 35 bucks and killer fit and retention (and free returns if you buy it off Amazon and don't like it).
I use the Houston Eco Leather CCW holster. Fits perfect with the TLR-6 I have on there and is super comfortable.

I would use these as they capture the kinetic energy better than a puck of rubber.
See comment above for paint.
Glow in the dark paint sucks. I've tried it. The problem is it only glows for a few minutes and you've gotta charge it. So if you were walking round with a pistol in your holster it wouldn't do anything.
The top where the sight is, is a picatinny rail. There are M-lok attachments the convert to a picatinny rail. Like this https://www.amazon.com/Magpul-M-LOK-Aluminum-Picatinny-Accessory/dp/B08BMBPJRW
Magpul is a good brand, but is a composite. Other brands are aluminum.
Striker Spring Guide. That's the plastic "sleeve" that goes into the striker channel in the slide. You don't want to rip that out of your current slide, and it would most likely come out ruined if you did. Luckily, it's less than $5 from Midwest Gun Works. You'll still need a barrel and RSA. The RSA from the M&P 2.0 Compact 4" works great.
As I mentioned, you'll have to trim down the extractor pin. It's sized to go to "the top" of an uncut slide, and the optic cut necessitates a little work with a dykes.
I think S&W CS will be your only option for a slide cover plate if you don't want to use an optic. I looked all over for one and couldn't find one. I surrendered and went with an optic. If it helps the optic I went for is a stupid good value at $98 from Amazon.

Aluminum body, clear dot, shake-to-wake. It's not a bad option while you sort out your choices. You may even stay with it.
I think the competition shooters advice is solid. From my perspective what helped me was be consistent, remove variables, and lol leave the big dick at home. I go to the range 3-4 times a week and I see guys putting the target at 25 yards and they are all over the place. About half way through their session they bring it closer and their shot placement improves but still needs a lot of work. Had they worked out the kinks at a shorter distance first, they could actually determine what they are doing wrong. So yes 7yds is great, but 5yds might weed out some issues, or show you the same. I have no shame putting my target at 7yds and hitting bullseyes, but I didn't get there starting it at 25yds.
Also shoot small, miss small....I buy the splatterburst roll of stickers and replace the sticker over the old one in the same spot. This way I am always aiming at the same target, not shooting slightly left or right or lower and moving targets every 5-10 rounds and not learning from it. At 6cents a sticker (in the 250 pack) you can stick with the same paper target for a while. Also the splatterburst targets have a Pavlovian effect, and you will want to hit the splatterburst target and you will be more focused on it because a hole in white paper is not nearly as exciting.
The laser helps to watch the movement of your shot. Not really that helpful to put it where you want it, until you master putting your irons on target, hitting where you planned, and then zeroing the laser after to match.
Something like this should suffice. Check the bore for obstructions before shooting for the first time. I usually don't clean before shooting a gun for the first time, just make sure the bore isn't obstructed. Modern pistols like your Shield are very easy to field strip, so it makes sense to strip it and clean it after shooting. Any cleaner engineered for firearms will be totally harmless to your pistol. One exception might be copper SOLVENT, which you don't want to use unless you know what you're doing and don't leave it in the bore longer than recommended.
Clean thoroughly and don't overlube. Your manual should indicate proper lube points.
Have fun ! You have nothing to worry about or be nervous about. Just learn and follow your firearms safety rules. Don't be the guy that goes to the range for the first time and gets ejected for not following safety rules.
For what its worth, why would anyone care if people like your weapon or its configuration with one tactical light versus another? Yes I know there are a lot of people who do not like OLIGHT but that is not everyone. I would be more concerned with how you as the owner feel. If you like it and its configured in a way you like it and you have trained regularly with it and are comfortable with how to use and carry it--who cares about anyone else's opinion? It is your sidearm. Now in terms of holsters there are always challenges with finding the right holster for the way a specific firearm is configured that is why many people move to a generic all purpose holster when there is not a specific holster for your weapon and its configuration. I ran into the same problem with my SIG P220, 226, and 229's when I wanted a holster for my weapons with tactical lights. I am not sure if this will fit the bill for you but I have on occasion when I needed to carry my weapon with a light chose to use something like this ( https://smile.amazon.com/FRTKK-Adjustable-Tactical-Holster-Bodyguard/dp/B087ZVT1QX ) holster. It is a nice holster and is configurable and adjustable, just one word of caution it does not make a difference what holster you choose but whatever holster you do decide on, make sure you take the time to train with it for both drawing and holstering especially for striker fired pistols. Best of luck.
BW Casey Aluminum Black Touch-Up. Its a matte black metal finish. Lots of gun smiths use it to blacken metal parts. Works wonders on white letters. It won't get rid of the bright white letters but it'll mute it greatly.
Or you can mount an Olight Baldr Mini that has green laser built in. You can get this below $100 sometimes when it goes on sale.

Trigger guard inside of a fanny pack? That's what I do when wearing a bathing suit. Otherwise a kydex holster with the retention set tight seems pretty solid, at least for me. Maybe someone on r/ccw knows of one.
I don't own one but the common complaints for the red dot I've heard are them coming installed backwards from the factory and that the battery life sucks. If you like it and it holds zero, great! If you're like me and have an astigmatism this works well, and even if you don't have an astigmatism and just don't like your red dot I'd still recommend it https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01C95I8N4/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_5J3794E2XTDKG195XGW8
This mount is compatible with no modifications as an adapter plate for the Shield Plus RMSC footprint to mount the Holosun K series dots. However, you need 6-32x1/2" screws that you need to source yourself since the mount comes with M4 screws.
For double the price (and much less QC), there's always this one from CHPWS that comes with the correct screws. People have mentioned recently though that the quality of their product has been poor.
Im a bit of a moron, but if you talking about the rear butt cover plate thing, I bought one from Amazon. It is made by bastion, for 16$ with a don't tread on me engraving. I have it on my shield plus.
BASTION Laser Engraved Rear Butt Cover Back Plate for Smith & Wesson M&P 9/40 Shield SUBCOMPACT ONLY - Don't Tread On Me https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017A8FNAG/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_E7S0BM9RH31HT0ESN09W?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I've tried a LOT. These are similar to VZ or Spiegel. I sanded the checkering and finger grooves off, but that's just me. I tried everything. Altamont, Hogue, VZ (these are great but heavy), service grips, buffalo horn, BK grip adapters, etc. Next on my list was Altamont Altai if these hadn't worked out. See my profile for what I did to them
These were perfect. I actually ordered a spare set just in case.
I have this: CVLIFE 2.5-10x40e Red & Green Illuminated Scope with 20mm Mount https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00PRVLMK4/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_5NT0714E68EQCTWHN15V?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
It's cheap but accurate, I have it on a fun gun so I don't really care about sub-MOA accuracy or durability or anything. It has a laser too!
Of course bro, we all gotta help each other out.
If you choose to go the Holosun route, the only difference between the K dots is that the 407K comes with a 6MOA dot and the 507K comes with their Multi Reticle System that lets you choose between a 2MOA dot, 32MOA circle or a 2MOA dot in a 32MOA circle (looks like the EoTech reticle).
To modify the cut at home yourself for the Holosun sights, you need only dremel off the rear mount posts and file some material off the front posts. I know someone posted a short explanation video on this sub.
The adapter plate I recommend is the DPP Titanium plate. It says it's made for Glock, but they all have the same footprint. You'll need to purchase 6-32x1/2 screws tho, and you may need to reduce the head diameter.
CHPWS sells a similar product with the correct screws included, but it costs double the price of the DPP and I've heard many people talk of their poor quality control and customer service lately.
You'd have to look to find the exact model for yours but I've been very happy with this carbon fiber holster for my M&P Shield PC 9mm after trying about 5 different holsters previously.
The Riton MPRD 2 here is a really good value for the money. Personally, for a carry / home defense gun, I like the shake awake feature. Also, even thought it auto sets the brightness level, I found it to be daylight bright at the range, good in dim to low indoor light and poor in very dark indoor light which the night sights compensate for.
If you want the Holosun and don't want to wait for the C&H plate, these guys here claim their plate works with the proper screws. I exchanged a few emails with them and they said it 100% will work with with the Shield Plus and 407k/507k series but I never tested it because I went with the Riton.
Side note, it should be pretty easy to 3D print an adapter plate. I started working on one but abandoned it because the Riton fits without an adapter, has absolute co-witness, and just does everything I want a red dot on that platform to do. Still, should be a simple project with the right measurements.
Snag some of this to level that drawer up.

Yup, but I dislike finger grooves on defensive guns. If the draw is less than perfect I'm bobbling to regrip, or shooting with an unstable grip. They're fine for range guns. I've used full size Hogue grips on Magnum revolvers.
Also, by most reports the Hogue is a nightmare to install, especially on a Shield Plus with coarse, sandpapery gritty texture.
Here are the grip sleeves I bought. One is a Pachmyr, the other is an identical grip sleeve with a different name (GVN) and logo. The GVN is slightly larger and easier to install.
I preferred the coarse feel of the Shield Plus grip, so I plan to trim off the front strap of the grip sleeve and use 3M VHB double stick tape to secure the side panels. Most grip tape like the Talons are already using 3M adhesive tape.

I can't speak for the best optic, but I used this to replace sights on my Sig. Wish I had it when I replaced the rear sight on my M&P 2.0 compact 9mm, which was a pain to get out with standard hand tools.

The belt is a dynamis belt. It's ok as a carry belt, not very stiff to hold its shape but I've found for appendix carry that is not as important. I mostly bought it because carrying in the middle I wanted to not have a buckle there and this was perfect for that.
My holster is an g-code incog. Very well made holster awesome draw but wouldn't be my first choice if you are going somewhere besides appendix. My comp tac's are the way to go if you are going to carry elsewhere.

Just that little bit of cushion makes a ton of difference. Before, after a couple of mags I didn't want to shoot anymore. But now I can shoot all day and don't even feel it. It does add a bit of bulk to the grip but it's not excessive. Plus I found that I get better groupings because I'm not dreading the recoil so I don't compensate.
My friend, you should get the 10 round mags and throw on this thing called a Pierce grip extension. It actually keeps your gun butt small but extends just the forward end for your pinky finger. Imagine a triangle, or look at this link on AMazon. Best $12 I ever spent- the gun feels like a natural Compact now. HELL it is $9.99 right now. get as many as you need!!!

You should try a screw extractor those little allen screws (usually) don't have a lot of torque on them, but might not be the case here if the previous owner stripped them. If they added loctite that could also make it trickier.
I bet if you call S&W about it they would fix it for free.
No problem. I also heard that foam can hold moisture. Don't know if thats true or not. Even if it were, the firearms should be stored in a lower humidity environment anyway. I use one of those goldenrod dehumidifiers, and a one of those rechargeable silica gel canisters.

If you are like me and don't want to spend $35 on a universal loader, check out MakerShot mag loaders for $12 on Amazon. You won't regret it. I bought one for a full size and it almost works for the Shield Plus. However, they just made a Shield Plus version and it works beautifully. To operate one you just push down and push a round in. You can push down with your thumb or your whole hand. This can be done on a table or in the air if you use your pinkie finger to hold the bottom of your magazine. I find that these are insanely fast and just as easy to use as a Maglola. Check these out:
Yes, this is what I've used many times to polish internals. I find the felt cone style a bit easier to work with than the wheels, but that's just personal preference. Just be very careful not to re-profile any surfaces or you could change the action; use a medium speed and don't push down harder than you need to.

More important, it's also great as a survival tool (to start fires, whistle, and sharpen fish hooks). Fits easily in one of my "Go Bag" compartments, along with my compass and other things I have inside (e.g., Ruger 10/22 Takedown w/Magpul).
Seriously, you don't need boutique gun lube. Get yourself a quart of Mobil 1 synthetic, a needle squeeze bottle, and some Hoppes 9. The oil is like 6 bucks at walmart. The squeeze bottles are really handy. You can pinpoint a drop of oil
Made specifically for the gun with space for the safety, has good reviews and 40$ isn’t bad. I carry a Glock 27 most of the time but when I go hiking and camping I used to carry my XDM 45, now I’ll be carrying a 5” M&P 40 M2.0.

I’ve got the EZ 380 for both my gf and her mom. Amazing pistol for this exact purpose. If it were me I’d skip all the nuisance for one more round, get her one of these , and sign her up for an hour or two of private instruction. Considering she’ll realistically probably never actually need to use it for self defense, I’d make it as easy as possible to train with. Also, if she can’t solve a problem with 8+1 I doubt 9+1 would be the difference-maker. Just my hot take.

Absolutely!! I learned it all the long, expensive way so happy to share.
See how low the TRS-25 sits low on the rail — hard to get a nice view down the pipe with a normal cheek weld so you add the little UTG Riser and it’s like a little booster seat that brings it up to a more natural eye level.
If you really want to get fiddly with the risers, the 0.83” one will give you “full co-witness” with iron sights like the Magpul MBUS (the dot lines up perfectly with the sights) and a 1” riser gives you “1/3 co-witness” meaning the dot sits above the sights a little bit. Not like anyone really needs battle sights on a 22 plinker, but hey
I have this safe mounted to the side of my nightstand. Quick access with the fingerprint, and will keep kids out. I won't stop anyone from stealing it but that's not why I got it.
MagLula is unbelievable!!
Honestly you don’t reaaaally need one for the EZ cuz they’re fairly painless to load up, but these things also make it way easier. I found a single one on eBay for 5 bucks last year.
Used this to knock out the old sights: Wheeler Engineering Hammer and Punch Set with Brass, Steel, Plastic Punches, Brass/Polymer Hammer and Storage Case for Gunsmithing Maintenance
Rear sight knocked loose first hit and was easy (gotta loosen the set screw first). Front sight was way harder and took some serious hits to get out.
Then used the pusher in the pic to get the new sights in: W WIREGEAR Sight Pusher Sight Pusher Tool with Heavy-Duty Construction and Reversible Gunsmithing Tools and Engineering Tools Assembly for Handguns and Glock
It’s the same as the Wheeler from what I can tell, but saves about $60. Worked great, had to crank pretty good, more than I thought I’d be comfortable with, on the rear sight to get it in, but it did the job.

Here's one from Amazon... Looks to have great reviews. They have other colors too. Simple device, just acts as a sleeve to the magazine and allows you to easily push down the tabs.
I’m not adept on revolvers, but google pointed me to: Amazon- https://www.amazon.com/Weigand-Smith-Wesson-Frame-Scope/dp/B07J554KLR

If all else fails you can use a Glock sight till like this: https://www.amazon.com/Universal-Sight-Pusher-Tool-Handguns/dp/B075QV1SQY/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?keywords=glock+sight+tool&qid=1567918494&s=gateway&sr=8-4
This is my favorite thing about this light. It looks like it came on the gun, but I promise you, it’s a separate piece. I have one on my edc shield 9mm. Got it on amazon for like 85$
I'd still say to try out an extra power striker spring if you haven't already. Get it for pretty cheap at SpeedShooterSpecialties. Also be sure to not lubricate your striker channel (just a reminder, no idea if you did) when cleaning. Any idea how many rounds your M&P has seen roughly? If the hammer is too peened over a new striker could help. I know S&W used to send them out free of charge but I believe things have changed so in case, SpeedShooter's also has replacements albeit a bit pricey. Lastly, consider sending a support email to Apex as they're incredibly thorough and very helpful. They'll request several photos of your M&P disassembled so if you're going to a shop to have the work done it might be a little more cumbersome but should definitely get things straightened out.
The 3D Printed AIWB looks neat and I'm sure the material it's made of would hold up a long while. My only advice is to consider adding some adhesive foam on the back for added comfort.
Feel free to message me if I can be of any more assistance or want another mind to bounce ideas off of ever. I'm always happy to chat guns :-)
I've used the desantis softuk and the cya supply company and really like both. The cya supply one rides a bit higher and moves around a lot less on my belt. Not sure about the laser sight though.

Works great on my 2.0 Compact. Shaved a tiny bit of the top and fits perfectly.
Bought it while waiting for Talon grips to arrive.
the optic is a Trinity Force Micro Red dot its not the most expensive micro dot but its held its zero just fine so far and the light is just some light my coworker gave me it says Lixada on the side i found the link on amazon for it here it is..its really bright and had 2 modes, solid and strobe and it takes a CR2 battery ive never had a handgun light before so i really dont know how it compares to a streamlight or anything
same here i am not a fan of the 3 dots i went with the ameriglo pro i-dots. almost the same as the hackathorn, but the rear blade has a small tritium insert with no outline so it doesn't stand out in the day and is visible in the night. best of both worlds!

I carry appendix. And I love this holster. I honestly forget I'm wearing it most of the time. They have a summer version too which is nylon and lighter. But it's easier to get at the trigger. Either way I like both of them.
Food for thought: AmeriGlo makes a set similar to this, but the rear sight is a single dot below the front sight, similar to the Heinie sights mentioned elsewhere in this post. It's called the Pro I-Dot, and is just over half the price of the Trijicon sights. I have a set on both of my Shields. The Tritium is produced (and stamped) by Trijicon.
It's hard to tell from the product photos, but it looks like the orange ring on the AmeriGlo sights is actually brighter than the Trijicons. Mine light up even in moonlight.
Other than CTC this is the only one I've seen Streamlight 69273 TLR-6 S&W M&P Shield with White LED & Red Laser with Two CR 1/3N Lithium Batteries https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0188YF8KQ/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_IY7-wb1QJ08NJ
Haven't started looking for holsters yet
I don't have that model, but do have the C5L on my 9C and could not be happier with the quality of the unit. Much pricier than the RTL though.
