I haven't made anything like that, but a lot of people have acrylic "steps" if you will. I think they're called risers. Some examples. You may wanna check all the dimensions of these and measure the base of you SAS stand to make sure things will fit. Both of these boxes I found at different thrift stores for less than $5 each. On Amazon they have a plastic container box w/36 compartments and adjustable dividers for around $11. Not the same but it should get the job done:

It is this one - however - I'm not sure if I'd reccomend it.
The only part I could remove was the head, which meant that it was much easier to accidentally paint a body part I didn't mean to.
But, it looks much better than the hobby base ones, and feels sturdier, so it may be a good bet.
I have two sets of these
They come with holes of two sizes, one that can apparently fit SAS stands. The 3 levels aren't connected, so you can put them wherever you want. Though I should say that I bought a second set a good bit after the first one, and for some reason the second ones had holes that were too small to fit the SAS stands. Not sure why that is, or if new ones would still be like that, but even if the holes aren't usable they still make good risers.

Provides more accuracy and less chance of damaging your figure. I do this all the time with expensive figures that I don't want to damage. Having a joint shear off under that stress is a given; don't risk it. Go slowly and test fit periodically to avoid taking off too much material. You can either sand down the ball peg or the cavity, should work regardless -- but it does seem easier to round down the ball peg.

Only issue it that the shelves are differing sizes so its a little hard to fit figures on the smallest shelf but thats about it.

I haven't done any work on hand joints, but from what I've gathered, the ball joints I used in this are actually more suited to fix hand joints. I only used "half" of a ball joint to fix the neck joint; the "completed" one looks like that on the upper right of the packaging in slide 4. Looks pretty similar to the joint that you attach hands to. The main problem is finding a ball joint small enough, since I can tell you for a fact the ones I bought are too big.
I recommend these ones, they look small enough and may fit in the wrist/hand
