I don’t think it is a coincidence that they aired this episode after they the episode on the media, where they blithely dismissed the controversy around the teaching of critical race theory. Here they demonstrate they accept the the very premises of critical race theory without question. You can see it in the conversation between Jon Stewart and Andrew Sullivan. They could not come to an agreement on anything because they operating on completely different premises.
The very foundational principle of Critical Race Theory is that society is built on white supremacy. It was born out of the Post-Marxist Critical Theory of the Frankfurt School. It divides into oppressor/oppressed groups engaged in a historical struggle for wealth and power. In traditional Marxism those groups are classes. In Crticial Race Theory those groups are races. James Lindsay explores this further in his most recent book Race Marxism.
Angela Davis, one of the black activists featured in the opening segment, deliberately sought to wed Marxist Critical Theory with to Black Ethnic Studies. Her PhD advisor was Herbert Marcuse, one of the most influential members of the Frankfurt School. His entire output is an exercise in motivated reasoning. He exhaustively strains logic and reason to justification violence on the behalf of Left-wing movements and the destruction of liberal democratic society. As Jon demonstrated with the opening segment he is very clearly engaging in an attempt to justify the violence of Black Lives Matter. The 2020 BLM riots killed 30 people and caused over $2 billion in damages. Riots which are unparalleled in the history of the United States, in regards to their destructiveness.
