YOI is a show which quite cleverly deliberately misleads us about the past and personalities of the two main characters during the first few episodes. The problem is sometimes these incorrect first impressions have "stuck" in the minds of some people. Victor can especially be a victim of this, because his true character and (what we know of) his backstory is so different from what we're led to believe in the first episode. Victor is actually a really fascinating character and I'm always pleased when I come across metas, fan fics, etc. that capture that complexity he has.

I do sometimes hear other Yuuri fans complain about some fans depiction of his character and saying he is underappreciated, though personally I haven't come across this much.

As for Yurio, his character is a bit more straightforward compared to the other two, but it can still get a bit grating when some fanworks take the abrasive side of his personality and turn it into his whole character. I guess this is mainly for comedy purposes but I'd still like to see a bit more nuance there. He's a 15/16 year old pubescent boy and not at all unusual for his age, he should be written that way.

We had a fic rec thread series a while back on this sub. I'm sure other folks will turn up to provide you some recs, but here's one of mine (the portrayal of Yurio in part 2 is pretty stereotypical but otherwise I recall liking this series).

I find the sub so much better in terms of conveying the emotion and more nuanced although some of the funnier moments are in the dub. I'd recommend sub over dub tho.

I was reading this last night: A Stiller Doom by Tessa on Ice. It's a little heavy-handed at times with the feminism parallels, but it's an Omegaverse fic that explores the societal reprecussions of A/B/O dynamics, which I personally almost always find interesting. Otayuri, WIP. (Also Victor is kind of unlikeable in this fic, so if that would bother you, potentially stay away.)

It would be hard to find a legit instrumental version, but there are tutorials online for how to remove vocals from songs that you can follow easily with a free editing program like Audacity. This does depend on how the song/how it was recorded, so it might not work though.

Amazon has the BR/DVD (or just BR to save some $) combo set. It comes with both English and Japanese audio. Weird thing (at least on the BR) if you turn on Japanese, it automatically has English subs. You don't get a choice with the subs.
(I just bought the BR/DVD combo and it arrived Friday. Guess what I spent my weekend doing?)
