The problem is that it's fixed to the headlight bucket.
The easiest solution is to buy a new bucket and then a LED headlight to go with it.
I put ammo cans on my old sporty. Removed the turn signals and installed mini marker lights on the corners of the cans like these. Might work for you too, just two extra holes to drill and some wiring
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B082HQPK29/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_NYGCTMR71NWN25JHYYM9
I am going to assume you are asking about it and if it is worth the asking price. I went with a China knock off and I was really surprised how well it works. I got it off Amazon so if it was crap I could return it.. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DZU30S0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_sUtqAbBEJNHQW
What do you ride?
The bars are factory. So I can't compare it to another 1200. However my girlfriend has an 883 with stock bars(lower) and I'd say hers feels sportier for sure. But I love my mini apes.
I bought the cheap tank lift off Amazon. Didn't know if I was going to love the 1.5" lift, so I got a cheaper option incase I ever wanted to replace it: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07XP91HMS/ref=cm_sw_r_u_apa_glt_fabc_SX7YW6VVCREYEHVKZ2YF?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
The coil relocation came from DK Customs. They seem to be the preferred choice: https://www.dkcustomproducts.com/07-up-coil-and-ignition-key-relocation-dk-ck-rlc07.htm
They have a ton of options for lifting and relocating. Would highly recommend. Oh, and they sent me a free beer koozie.
10/10 would lift again.
i run this in my 2019 xl1200xs since 2019, never had an issue with it, works great. And my homie put one in his dyna also no complaints.
I've used this stuff on many engines including my dirt bike and it holds up incredibly well and looks great:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000CPCRN6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_20MZSAPHMHR7C1N4E5K9
It's also easy to apply, and you just run the engine to cure it.
OP - hope you get it sorted!
everyone else - FWIW, i bought this cheap-o for $38 Sept. of 2018 and it's still going strong...
1) Keep your stock spring and it won't change the pull effort at all. Most extra plate kits come with a heavier spring for performance. If you're not beefing up the bike significantly (beyond a stage 1) you won't need the extra spring rate.
2) I'm a big fan of the Energy One kit because I have it on mine, but there are plenty out there from Barnett, Alto, etc. that are just as good.
3) Sounds like you got the parts on order. I'd get a good pair of circlip pliers, though. I use these and they work super well.
The factory service manual has step by step instructions, and you should be using one. Hammer Performance also does a phenomenal one that goes over the entire thing. You can't mess up if you watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8BMUy-pTBs&list=PLSOQM2-xPR8B21vlKjnUzn-G9t1X2eT0y&index=5
I got this one from Amazon.
Different from the style you're looking for, but I assume the quality isn't much different.
I'm really satisfied with it. It gives the look I wanted, a place to strap down my enormous lunch box, and the extra security and comfort for my wife while she rides with me.
The way the detachable clips are engaged, there is no way the sissy bar will fall off. Super easy to install too.
The flicker unit is usually a plug in between the headlight connector from the main harness and the headlight itself. It’s basically a ballast resistor. Small and unobtrusive. Seen lots of reports of that being needed on the CANbus bikes.
My 02 has the handlebar control’s and speedo/dash working I. The bucket as well as the headlight, which the CANbus bikes don’t have. I’ve not heard of any issues with the led lights going in the CANbus buckets because there is a lot more room.
Anti flicker example: https://www.amazon.com/Flicker-Decoders-Headlight-Wrangler-Davidson/dp/B01MUAD4KE
Consider using Amazon Smile and donating to your preferred charity. I donate to Wheels Through Time Museum. They specialize in restoring American motorcycles from days gone past. But there are hundreds of charities.
I got some leather saddle bags on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001CDZNBK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1&pldnSite=1) and just throw them over the rear of the seat when I need them. I also tie a piece of leather shoelace through the holes and around the sissy bar.
Well let's start with your garage I guess. Also what year is your sporty?
Basic standard combination wrenches ¼-1½, standard sockets (6 point)½-1½, standard allen wrenches, torx set, torque wrenches, oil filter wrench. And depending on what all you plan to do there are other specialty tools to pick up as needed. And this I carry every day every day carry
I used a hardmount plate for my dowco bag, the directions said you could flip the mounting bracket to make the left peg clear. I didn't try it b/c I have a solo seat. So I didn't need my pegs
This is the mounting plate I used https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00H9HBXI0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_VakgFbFSJN7ZA
If you still feel there are some particles ( metal shavings, dirt or debris ) you can't get out.... slice a fuel filer into you main line.
https://www.amazon.com/HIPA-Filter-Stratton-Craftsman-Tractor/dp/B06XRNYHK8
You can pick them up at any auto parts store.
Ooo yeah I'll get the triple play module, noted thanks! As for turn signals on the forks I've been thinking about these . Though I'm not too sure if it would look weird since I still want to have the usual two next to the headlight. I looked up the teardrop fork clamps and they seem to fit the style more, but I'm hesitant to get lights on the forks still.
I heard that while you are in there this could be an upgrade: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0013LF21W/ref=crt_ewc_title_srh_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3TGC5XRRCX4P2
But man that price for a little piece of metal is hard to swallow.
Get the double ball end set from Bondhus.
https://smile.amazon.com/Bondhus-67037-Stubby-L-Wrench-ProGuard/dp/B01F6PWZJW
Oof, the price has gone up though. When I bought them they were still under $20.
I use a GPS Speedometer Gauge - works great. Only goes up to 80mph, which is fine for me - I never ride faster than 65mph. Here's one that goes up to 125mph.
Have you thought about using something like gun blueing to alter its color? I use this stuff in my shop and it's not blue but a very dark grey/black.
Clean and tighten like everyone has said. Also get some silicone dielectric grease and put that on all the connection points.
I have done this mod after finding the sharp light line of the Daymaker to be distracting. The bike vibrates and it caused the Daymaker to also vibrate and I hated seeing the sharp line of the light shake while on night rides even though I loved how bright it was.
The bulb I ended up going with is this one: AUXITO H4 LED Headlight Bulb... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B092SHMWQZ
Getting the rubber boot around the bulb was a little tricky as the bulb is slightly bigger than the stock halogen. I used a butter knife to pry up the rubber boot and get it around.
The bulb itself is very bright and works great, you can even see it illuminating street signs during daytime. The bulb doesn’t have a fan so no need to worry about that going out, it doesn’t heat up really at all compared to a halogen, it’s bright and the light temp is super visible, and it was reasonably priced. The beam pattern seems identical to the halogen bulb in the stock housing. I cannot speak to compatibility with a smaller housing/reflector though.
Sounds like those pads could use some shims. Try maybe something like these guys.
https://www.amazon.com/SbS-9500-PU-SBS-Brake-Pad/dp/B006RA9E90
You keep sanding down your pads you're just going to need another set of pads. LOL
For the future, don't just randomly start doing stuff. Get yourself a clymer manual. You already diagnosed it's a fueling issue. The manual will have step by step instructions on how to trace issues in each system... in this case your fuel.
I can give you a starting point for this particular issue because I recently had my vacuum operated petcock go bad and had very similar issues. You'll need something like this to test the diaphram. I replaced my petcock with an open, non-vacuum operated petcock and plugged the vacuum hose with a golf tee so i don't have to worry about it anymore.
There is a special tool that compresses the pressure plate and allows you to remove the circuit/pressure plate and the rest comes out easily (most times). There's a link to the tool on Amazon, it's fairly cheap and it will come in handy anytime you do a clutch or clutch work! If you have any other questions let me know!
Hey saw someone have a similar one to this on this page asked them here is what they said.

get a tach like this... they don't make the one i bought off amazon anymore but im sure they're all about the same.
From my clymer manual for 86-94 xl/xlh:
Normal: 950-1050 rpm
They're these from Amazon.
Well, some of them are, some others less so. I bought my bike with a cheap bullshit headlight unit from the previous owner that was dim as hell. I ended up buying one of these that someone here recommended, and those are great.
I’ve never had that kind of issue with mine. It was so ridiculously brighter than the stock, that the two are hard to compare. I found the one I bought: SUNPIE Motorcycle 5-3/4 5.75 LED Headlight for H arley 883,sportster,triple,low rider, wide glide Headlamp Projector Driving Light https://www.amazon.com/dp/B018LXCV4U/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_R9NDWKWNCMJ1QAMYE9RY
Young man, I have the finest Chinesium from the Amazon webstore. 😂
Jokes aside it spent 2 winters & 3 summers outside while being my only transportation and I dig it. It’s not a clean looking as a TC Bros or multiple of the IG fabricators, but it’s still a steal of a deal. I got it to model which height and style I’d like before spending $$$s, but I can’t reason thru replacement as it still gets the job done.

I run the following on my 2018 Sporty. Previously had the wysamic because of reviews/ reputation. This headlight blows that one out of the water IMHO:
I know it's no longer available, but I had no trouble whatsoever installing this headlight on my Roadster.

Great light on a budget.
I have this one on my 99. It’s a freakin tank. Heavy gauge metal. Mounts to the lower shock bolt. I don’t usually do product reviews, but the quality of this mount and the price were great. There’s a couple pics of my bike in the reviews.
double check those pushrod covers so that they are really flushed and sealed with the tappet block covers. i really fought some demons on mine with blowback esp at high rpm and it had to do with that interface. the PO had used parts from 3 different styles of pushrod/tappet block/adaptors and when i set to rebuilding it, i had to kind of start all over with that area. frustrating. yours look to be correct, but worth researching if someone else has had their mitts in there.
also, using an O ring lubricant helped tremendously to create that seal. i used this stuff and it seems to have done the job (along with fixing all the wrong parts)
make sure to select 49mm option
These are the ones I used on my 48 spec.

Probably not the best quality but swapping out the original filter to a higher performance can help with this. It's boils down to style over function. Since my Biltwell Keystone kinda look like a bat, I had to keep it consistent and go full goth chopper.
One of the most important things you can do before buying a air cleaner is get a good fuel mapping tuner. If you throw on aftermarket pipes and an air cleaner your bike is going to run like shit until you get it properly tuned. Vance & Hines makes a good one. You really need to invest in this. It's considered "paying the Harley tax".
If you buy the kit it will have instructions, but if i remember correctly you will have a 2-1 split. The single end goes to your indicator light on the dash positive and the other 2 split off to the signals. Your dash indicators ground should just ground out somewhere.
When we were working on his bike the price for one of the kits was around $20-$25, I just found one on Amazon for $10 so its probably better just to buy the kit. Especially if you don’t have a soldering iron, spare wires and connectors
If you want to make sure this will work before spending any money open up your dash and pull the bulb out from the indicator. If this solves your problem you can ride without an indicator light or purchase a diode kit and install.
Yes it's the RSC complete lever and perch assembly.
I bought the last pair but this is the link from Amazon, they are NLA now

There are several options. I used a Rogue Rider industries kit. You just remove the bulb and replace it with the LED insert. There is no need to mess with any wires. I also replaced the orange lenses with smoked ones as well. There are all types of just straight swap replacement bulbs you can use at all kind of price points too. I will admit that the units that I got where not the cheapest available, but I really liked the looks. I also added a load equalizer since I did the front and rear to make sure I didn’t have a fast, or erratic flash.

And the oil filters with a bolt on the end really help with removing it, just don't torque them done hard.
My low fuel light comes on at half tank so it’s practically useless. The check engine light is useful though. The newer fuelpak fp3 can do all of that and possible keep track of mileage too. I might splurge another $350 to do that so I can just get rid of the speedo. Would look waaaay cleaner I think. Bracket headlight Lowbrow sells a similar headlight but it’s 35w instead of 55w. If you decide to go this route give me a shout if you need a wiring diagram. They are single filament bulbs (no high beam) so I have the bottom one always running and the top as the high beam. Took a little splicing but it’s possible to have them both running in high beam and one running during normal operation.
The brake line was a squeeze, I had to bend it a little and remove one of the brackets but everything else was fine.

Idk about EU availability but this light is super bright with a good beam. I ride in the desert highways with no lights or other cars late at night, no issue. Install is plug and play. Their customer service was great as well.
You want something like this
I run Biltwell Tyson XL 14-inch T-bars. Don’t forget you need to take account of your cable length when you’re changing handlebars. Typically, the handlebar company will steer you towards the proper length for throttle, clutch, front brake, and all your electronics. If you have Harley ABS, bleeding and priming that system is apparently worth paying the dealership (and then you have a company to go after if your ABS fails). Magnum Shielding is the only company that makes custom length ABS lines.
I just got a sportster (48) this past July. First thing I did was get some new hand grips. I wasn't a fan of the stock ones and they are horrible in the rain. I have forward controls so can't really comment on the mid controls w/ highway pegs set up. I also did a stage 1 as quick as I could. I went with DK custom outlaw air cleaner and their external breather system with KN air filters. Didn't want to burn any oil in the engine from the PCVs. I tired the external breather bolts at first, but wasn't a fan. I paired that air cleaner up with bassani radial sweepers and V&H FP3. Have a saddlemen seat on order. I also did the DK license plate bracket relocation and duolamp tail light. I can post some pictures if you want to see how those look, but DK has some good photos on their website.
Took me a while to find the right bars that I wanted to suit the look, but here they are linked below. 12" bars with a 1" riser.....sits pretty comfortable for me.

Just be sure to get the alignment and belt tension correct. You can make an alignment tool from a metal coat hanger and a zip tie and if you dont have one you can get one off amazon and the spec is about 1/4” torque the axle nut to 100 ftlbs
Either of these have small antennas already. You just need a standard size pocket radio not the mini ones https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08GB3DT2H/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_4XBF5CBXHPK5H1X13RQH?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08531THP1/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_RXC8K09SET9FTXDA3V4K
Thanks! And nope, they’re these. No grinding needed but you do need to remove the bolts making the tread and put thread lock on all of them or they’ll fall out.
What do you think about buying some cheap forward controls and using them as pegs without installing the controls?

I have this one from Amazon on my 2000 sportster hugger and it’s been great You gotta make sure to move the wires and press down hard so it seals and hold it down while fasting it back in
it helps with wind on the chest but isn't quite tall enough to block your head. At least for me. It's also a really great deal for the price https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZZ2J8KX?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I recently got a sportster as my first bike and was wondering if these would just be plug and play or if I would have to do some wiring. Here’s the link on Amazon
Hi. Yeah. That loose negative connection will absolutely melt the terminal if you keep trying to start while loose. I had an issue with my 1200. When i bought the terminal was already slightly melted from previous owner not tightening. After months of me riding, it came loose again, and it fried. I had this battery. It worked great until then. Not too expensive and no issues other than user error.
I’ve been using Pinlock ear plugs for quite a while, and have been really happy.
You can get them on Amazon for about 25 buckshttps://www.amazon.com/dp/B01G7JPA52/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_YSH2GTQAJ46JZTEC9HG3
If you don't have access to a paint gun to use automotive clear coats, check out 2k clear coats in a can. They're a two part clear that's gas and oil resistant. It's what I use on all the bikes I've painted including my own and it holds up great
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0082LJMC6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_pkm7FbKRWM0PD
They make a high gloss, semi gloss, and matte. I've used the high gloss and matte with great results
If you're looking for cheap I use a set of canvas ones I found on Amazon. They're not pretty but you can shove 2 18 packs in each one if you're brave enough.
Found a few on Amazon, but not sure what shipping will be. 883 rack
Sounds about right, maybe a tad high. I paid $2k for my '00 883 w/ 13.5k miles a little over a year ago. Yours looks to be in better condition though, mine's got patina. Look into replacing that headlight with a cheap DayMaker from Amazon.
Thanks for the advice. This is my first real maintenance i've done on it. I bought a wheel chock, jack, the sockets for both the axles, and this tool set . I didn’t pick up anything else yet because I wanted to make sure I was getting the right stuff. I read some posts about axle grease not being used but using anti-seize instead so I’ve been unsure about that. I also just remembered I need a torque wrench until writing this comment out so I’ll pick one up.
I bought these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CY8P9V0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Love them, totally worth the money, maybe twice that much. I did use some of the stock parts (the spring spacer washers and nuts I think). You will also want to locktite everything. They aren't probably as solid, but I have been running them for two years without a problem. Spend the $100
They came with the bike, however

Replace them as people are saying but also I will say invest in a good crimper with the right set of dies and it will change your life. If you’re into electrics at all. Game changer. Every hobby I pickup has a new connector and thus a new die but then you’ve got such a solid connection that you can trust. Should be like $40 give or take. I’ll link the one I got on amazon
This one doesn’t include a die for molex but they can be had
Just ordered this on amazon! Thanks for the suggestion.
Also did you need to buy cable extensions for your bars? I'm debating between 10'' or 12'' currently for mine.
Amazon.

Search 'Daymaker' on Amazon. There are tons of them and they're mostly all made in the same factory in China. I use this LED Headlight Halo with DRL and it works great.
I really like it! It really cleans up the lines of the bike. This was a cheap amazon one where the dash lights are down low too. I'd get a better quality one that attaches to the frame instead of the forks. Also, I'd get that handle bar bracket that keeps the dash lights up in the original spot.
Like this.
Get an led replacement bulb. Not quite a day maker, but LED crisp white, bright, and the lens still looks stock.
Something like this: SEALIGHT H4/9003 LED Motorcycle Headlight Bulbs Conversion Kit High/Low Beam - 6000K Super White https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071Z7RHYM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_MyiSDbJ4R1TK2
I removed the rear tail lights and installed this from Amazon. Clean, easy to install and cheap.

Its been awhile and i honestly dont remember but here is a link to an amazon one that looks pretty close if not the same, and its about what i paid for it. Or u can search senkauto sissy bar. https://www.amazon.com/Senkauto-Motorcycle-Passenger-Sportster-2004-2018/dp/B07CQHNPL3?ref_=Oct_CAMWishedC_404682011_1&pf_rd_r=WASXY9134PTTSY7G5KQ3&pf_rd_p=a2592eb5-6916-591c-a1d6-e84abd550f77&pf_rd_s=mobile-hybrid-5&pf_rd_t=30901&...
you can get signal kits that relocate the stock ones to the forks.
EDIT: love that sissy bar where did you get it? no matter i've read below
Ha! Dont worry we've all done it. I stripped one of the Torx Screws while doing the Relocation and it was a mess. I was finally able to get it out after an hour of stress.
But yeah do so! I might follow you on that.
This is the headlight I bought:

The LED strips would be perfect. It doesn't look like my 2014 sportster would need a load balancer neither.
I also found this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01E59YH6O/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A2MZVUNOJLDL4S&psc=1
Extreme Max 5001.5044 Wide Motorcycle Scissor Jack - 1100 lb. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0196PAZ1S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_taa_rGt1Ab1YM58V5 I have this and it works perfectly for me. It lifts the bike tall enough to change your tires and stable enough too. And it's easy to store when you are not using it.
Something like this? You might find a font you like. The product I linked also makes a 4" version. Make sure you take good tank measurements.
Its a pretty amazing product.
Its a gas additive and stabilizer that you can also just straight up run your engine on with zero gas. In fact, that is the SOP for cleaning the crap out of old engines at the place I used to work.
You can get it at any auto-parts store.
I have used Seafoam for 20 years in over 10 vehicles with great success. I pour in 1/4 of a can about every season (so, four times a year) and if I winterize my bike, I use it as a gas stablilizer.
I have run gas that sat in a tank with seafoam for THREE YEARS and the gas was good, bike fired right up and didn't even smoke.
Here is a video showing what it can do. 1:33 you can hear the before. 9:16 is the sound after.

I have seen numerous vehicles "restored" like the one in the video above.
Get a blinker relocation kit. Save yourself a bunch of money and DO NOT get from HD. Just find something you like on the internet. You see a lot of guys using these.
Simple, clean, cheap, effective.... You can also get them in black. Then get some round bar end mirrors and call it a day. Should be able to get everything for under 50 bucks.
Make sure you get mirrors for 1 inch bars, and blinker mounts for whatever your fork tubes are, most likely they are 39mm.
This is the stuff I use (black only): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000MY3ML8/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
