Mmmm, Amiga nostalgia!
I needed to own a A500 after seeing my friend playing MoonStone on his computer. The only problem was that he had unknowingly gotten the extra 512kb RAM expansion in his and I didn't so I had to frantically check all ads in every computer magazine I could find so that I finally could slice some monsters heads!
I am actually waiting for my AmigaOne X5000 to arrive in the mail so that I can start beta testing the hardware!

Oh, that sounds pretty neat. ...probably still can't afford one, but neat.
Funny enough here in Europe there are people selling entirely different weird pricey niche PPC boards in the Amiga hobbyist market, though not really the same ...power. They can reportedly run Linux as well as AmigaOS.
Not sure about that Talos FAQ TBH. "protected against unauthorized hardware clones by patents and/or patents pending, so if you want the benefits of a truly open POWER9 system, be sure to get your Talos™ II today!" . It's really only open software not hardware, though still better than intel/amd known-broken stuff suppose.
Well, maybe RISC-V will take off over the next while...
Commodore owner of the Amiga imploded. But they had multi-tasking and everything Unixy when Windows was still based on DOS and didn't have anything like preemptive multi-tasking or even anything modern. But alas, shitty management killed it. It kind of survived zombielike for awhile.. you can still get AmigaOS but it is pretty much dead these days.
OS/2 got killed thanks to Microsoft.
EDIT: it looks like Amiga is still alive and still has machines available. http://www.amigaos.net/
Terrifying? Eh. It's basically a hobby now, but people still love the amiga, it still inspires :)
Blender has been ported. OpenOffice is in progress. Firefox was ported, but is now an old version, sadly.
Take a look: http://www.amigaos.net/
There was a 2000 in the video. I had the audio turned down so I don't really know what was said. Without knowing their issue it's hard to say what they should or shouldn't do. If it's software related they may be able to upgrade to a modern AmigaOS system but I'm guessing it's more complicated than that.
If it is a hardware issue, Amiga equipment isn't really that hard to come by. It's expensive compared to a lot of other retro hardware but probably much cheaper than upgrading the whole system.
If I were in their shoes I would probably just spend ten grand or so and buy up a shitload of old Amiga systems and piece together a bunch of backup systems. What they have now seems to be working for them and I've never been a fan of modernizing just because you can.
and to make it clear amiga os 4 has nothing to do with amiga inc any more. Its being developed by a company called http://hyperion-entertainment.biz/ and they are working on both a new amiga, and a new laptop, both with amiga os 4.2. http://www.amigaos.net/
Amiga Inc, worked on something the called Amiga Anywhere or (Amiga DE) witch was a kind of java os, kinda like android. http://www.amigahistory.co.uk/amigade.html
