It's just so unimaginative. The sad thing is that it is possible to do the 'Flappy Bird mechanic' really, really well - games like Badland have the same interaction model (tapping on the screen to prevent a bird/creature falling) but are far, far better designed.
BADLAND. I don't personally own it because I don't have an iPad or iPhone but I've played it before and it's really fun. Cool design and great with a friend (or three!).
You do a lot of tapping to fly as birds through a jungle-esque place. Essentially, you try to race/get to the end of the course without dying.
Ah, more information is here: http://www.badlandgame.com/blog/
What I want to know is minute differences between each platform. Am I better off buying this on Wii U? PS4? Or Steam version (still plugged into the TV using Wii U controllers, does it do 4k?). Some Wii U ports have such sad resolution and frame rate/performance. :(
Developer here. It's called GOTY Edition because it's the complete package with everything and the game has won 10+ awards (including several GOTYs). Biggest one being Apple's choice for Game of the Year. Check this page bottom: http://www.badlandgame.com/badland-goty/
Also, since we have redesigned the game for Steam and it uses new controls that fit PC/Mac/Linux perfectly (not just "one button"), we wanted to give it a new name.
Happy to answer any additional questions.
