I use FeedDemon. It's no longer supported so the full version is now the free version.

Do you want something specific for Equestria Daily, or just a generic RSS reader? Because FeedDemon can be set to hide itself and display notifications when a feed has new content.

Looks like it's not being updated anymore, but that just means they won't be changing up the user interface on you randomly like firefox. Works like a champ for me.

Yes i am currently searching around, managed to find http://www.feeddemon.com/ however it only refreshes every 5 minutes.... Which is a bit too slow for me im looking for one that refreshes at least every 60 seconds.

I use FeedDemon to check giveaways (example). I have it set to check every hour.

I use Feed Demon. You can tell it to prefetch articles as well as specify the update frequency and download directory. One problem is that it doesn't download more than twenty articles at a time so I leave it running.

For Windows take a look at FeedDemon. And as long as what you use syncs with Google Reader, it doesn't matter if you use the same thing on both computers or not.

And I absolutely despise the Google Reader redesign.
