I've ~~considered~~ thought about this once. Like making the app so the driver can set their rates, and they get all the money from the fare.
Looks like there is an open source alternative that is quite like what I just described.
The "gig economy" has a massive imbalance of information and power between employees (that's what they are) and employers. Something like the open source LibreTaxi is closer to a real market.
There's also all the issues with Uber breaking laws, hiding from regulators, and spending investor money on massive subsidies for riders, but that's another story.
Yea, you have to ask for confirmation or you can click on a paperclip -> location.
Check out http://libretaxi.org bot - I was looking for exactly the same thing and ended up confirming location for passengers (for drivers it is not that important)
It took a while, finished on 29th of December my tiny project: https://github.com/ro31337/libretaxi
It's javascript open source alternative for Uber, works on iOS, Android, desktop, web because it's Telegram bot
