I use MacFamilyTree 8 http://www.syniumsoftware.com/macfamilytree It's brilliant. Also MobileFamilyTree 8 for iOS http://www.syniumsoftware.com/mobilefamilytree You can of course import GEDCOM files. Both are powerful, convenient and very user friendly.
MacFamilyTree is excellent, with one of the best ranges of reports and charts of any app I have tried. Has a mobile companion it syncs with as well. It's been continuously updated and improved as well.
It won't sync with Ancestry obviously but I often export the gedcom for the charts.
I've been using MacFamilyTree for about a decade. Has desktop and iOS versions, iCloud integration, impressive visualizations (including some really cool mapping capabilities), built-in FamilySearch, good customer support and regular product updates.
If you use a Mac, try MacFamily Tree (http://www.syniumsoftware.com/macfamilytree). Views are very customisable. It's not free though.
It also has iPad and iPhone versions with the database synchronising via iCloud. You can also publish your tree/s via https://www.macfamilytree.com/ for other family members to view (password protected if you wish).
I am using MacFamilyTree which is a fresh wind compared to the ugly GUI of Windows' applications. Especially their tree view is something I did not find on Windows platform.
MacFamilyTree can do it. You can select one person and choose to export only their ancestors, or anyone related. I've used this feature in the same way you're looking for, except rather than sending only his ancestors, I temporarily separated our linked connection from the family group and chose to export everyone connected. This created a gedcom of all individuals that person is related to including uncles, great uncles, etc. without sending your whole tree.
You also have the option of exporting it as a website. It'll create all the needed files and you can either upload this to any webspace you have for them to easily browse (if they're not genealogists themselves), or zip up the files and send it to them, they'll still be able to view them in a browser.
They also added a third export option in a recent update: book templates. I haven't played much with it, but you can easily create PDF books from whichever tree branches you'd like. It's as easy as selecting the individuals or family groups you want and it will create chapters and editable fields for your own introductions or notes.
Oh, and I should mention there's a sale going on right now, 50% off.
MacFamilyTree is my favorite. It has a fantastic UI, great reports, data is presented very nicely, and record entry is very quick and easy. As the name implies, it's Mac only, but they also have an iOS app. I could list all the features, but might as well head over to their website and read their feature set for yourself. They also have sales during the holidays if you want to save some money.
My favorite part about it is the ease in which I can navigate the family tree. So many other programs are clunky when passing through generations, especially when going down and having to select different children. MacFamilyTree feels very fluid and natural though.
