I also regularly use it to view and edit giant files, from .log to .sql it can handle hundreds of megabytes with ease.
The search in files I use a lot too. It is a perfect Notepad replacer, it's better in every way. It's no IDE, but I still occasionally write code in it.
Something that might help is Notepad Replacer . It’s a free standalone program. Just run the installer if or when you want to change your Notepad.exe. I’ve used it successfully for years.

I use Notepad Replacer. Small, simple anf effective. Overrides default system editor from notepad to a given file path. Reinstall to change editor. Uninstall reverses all effect.

Maybe they just found the source code? Or maybe it just took a while to make a binary patch because they lost the source code.
For years I've just been using Notepad Replacer to use Sublime Text wherever notepad.exe gets invoked and I don't think I'll change this behavior anytime soon, but still this is a pretty cool change to hear about.
There's a line in the Emacs Power Pack installation for adding an 'Edit with Emacs' option to context menus.
That's pretty close to what you want, right?
There's also Notepad Replacer that does something unspecified to the registry to make all attempts to open notepad point to the editor you prefer.
