Just as another commenter pointed out, there aren’t many widgets (seems ike Big Sur actually sorta disabled them), but there are some calculator app that can be set to reside in your menubar, like Numi for example.
Another workaround would be to set Your preferred calculator app to open at login. Although it won’t be quite as a widget, it would still be always open and you could easily switch to it anytime.
You could also try to combine your favorite calculator app with an always on top app, this way, no matter what is opened, the calculator app would be always visible and available.

What about installing things like these on that computer?
better touch tool
MAMP
These are all different categories of potential threat.

Always or just when interacting with important accounts?
Thanks for the detailed post. You have provided some awesome recommendations. I am thoroughly impressed by the Objective-See stuff and will be using it. Their LuLu firewall seems like a free version of Little Snitch.
TickTick looks good. I have been hearing great things about the built-from-scratch reminders App in iOS 13 + Catalina and am looking forward to it. Have also heard good things about Things 3 but that gets too expensive to buy on Mac. Will try TickTick out.
Unite looks very cool too. I utilize Firefox profiles (on Windows, Ubuntu, and MacOS) for this purpose. On Mac, that means creating profiles and then creating Automator apps to launch specific profiles (and you can customize the icons too) using the code snippet:
/Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox -P ProfileName -no-remote &> /dev/null &
Of course, Unite makes it much easier but Profiles are good for multi-platform, multi-computer setups because I can use Firefox Sync (end to end encrypted) between profiles.
Brave is of course an excellent browser but I have Firefox set up on all my systems for consistency and I appreciate that fact that they are holding the fort on rendering engine front to keep diversity alive.
CalcTape looks very similar to https://numi.app/ , I will try it out.
I could not get the Daily.app link to work or find it in search or the app store. May be the site is down temporarily.
All the other suggestions are very interesting as well.
Thanks again, you are dynamite
