Odesi does it. It's a stripped down compisition software not a full DAW. You export the MIDI to import to other software. One nice feature is that it has a web based version in addition to the downloaded application. The downloaded version can use your own VSTs. The web version (obviously) can only use a select few built in sounds.
same here. former drummer, current electronic music producer using Ableton Live. I recommend some tools to help/inspire to create melodies and musical ideas:
Well how about an alternative to a DAW. I really like how Odesi works. It is not a full fledged DAW (although you can load VST instruments not effect plugins) into it it is strictly a composition sketch tool.
You should check out Odesi (http://odesi.mixedinkey.com). It helps you write melodies, generate ideas for your hooks, find rhythmic patterns and create chord progressions. It helped me with some of my tracks and I am planning to use it more in the future. The bad part is that it doesn't' have a trial version. However it comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee.
