Solved it. My code was:
if (somevariable = 69) { dosomething(); }
when it shouldve been:
if (somevariable == 69) { dosomething(); }
Im dumb.

It focuses mostly on using Javascript to achieve the sorts of things kids have been achieving in Scratch, but you can also do HTML/CSS inside it (the built-in tutorials don't cover that).
