I honestly don't think it's that bad. My biggest issue on first glance is the

centered/left-just/centered formatting.
I think you have appropriately complimentary typefaces, including the serif on blockquotes. I would just work on toning down hierarchy through layout and instead focus on your already-fleshed-out typographical hierarchy.
I would also increase the spacing between blog posts as their visual spaces are tending to merge.
I would also reduce all of the SOCIALNETWORKSHARETHISOMG buttons into a single Share This Button
Excellent point, however, reddit is the exception, not the rule. TFA hints at this
> Maybe you will luck out and become the next Instagram, or the next Pinterest. But maybe you could've won that huge mega millions jackpot too.
I mean, shit, do you have any idea how many competitors there are in reddit's niche? For every reddit, there are a dozen startups that tried and failed to be reddit
So yes, reddit gets away without marketing. But the other 90% of us have to work our asses off to get any traction.
So now 1% is too low. Most credit card processors are around 3%. As a user I want to know exactly where my money is going.
For trust: at least have contact info for your organization. A physical address where you are located. Have a link up top "About Us"? that has the story of how and why you started the site (And who you are).
Tell users who that third party is that will be storing the information. If they are known that will help with the trust. I think kickstarter uses amazon payments.
Another idea: check out http://sharethis.com/ and get some social media links on your page. The only hope you have of getting them to actually happen is for people to bother the celebrities via twitter, or whatever.
Mobile app developer here. That icon is technically an action icon. Usually when it's used for sharing there are other functions that are not sharing to social networks included as well, such as printing or copy to clipboard.
Someone using alien blue should be able to notice that the action icon brings up a menu with options such as manage subreddits, refresh, hide post, etc. So really it's just an options menu icon.
The icon used just for sharing can be found here. http://sharethis.com/
Maybe something like this might help?

These are services that provide you with a small snippet of code that you embed in any page to link out to the common social media sites.
If you're looking for something more custom, FB, Twitter, G+ all offer "buttons" or embed code that you can use; here's Twitter's: https://twitter.com/about/resources/buttons
Just got back to coding after a long hiatus (years) and trying to help create a site for a non-profit small charity. I'm just testing the site at home at the moment and already have numerous questions. Installed the package onto a usb, and already noticed differences in a small part of the site. For instance have downloaded and installed some social media buttons using the ShareThis site, now just clicking on the link thats not installed in the server, shows the media buttons perfectly as i placed them using CSS, but when in the server and using the address bar to locate the file, the media buttons seem to stack on top of one another.
Even without the CSS the problem still persists. So i'm figuring theres something i'm missing in the configuration of the installation of XAMPP lite.
Anyone else come across this problem??
So I've been book blogging for six years. (My blog: http://books.moonsoar.com/) I don't have a huge readership, but that doesn't bother me - it's not why I started blogging. So keep that in mind with my advice: if you want a big audience, my advice probably isn't going to help with that.
That said, here are my tips:
As far as the reading/blogging time balance... I've limited my blog mostly to reviews, plus one other feature (my Listed feature that I have ever Monday)... so I mostly only post when I've completed a book. Leaves a lot more time for the actual reading.
Honestly, if I am surfing blogs and come across one that is mostly memes and other filler, I skip that blog - it's just fluff and I'm much more interested in reading something with a bit more substance.
