>Further, use less jscript. The internet is slowly moving away from Web 2.0 and advancing. I don't know which hosting service you use, but you should consider something else. Jscript and ajax requires too much client processing for what you're presenting.
I disagree. With advancements like Chrome's V8 javascript compiler, javascript is faster than ever and constantly improving--even on smartphones.
Would you rather create, read, update, and delete your comments asyncronously with ajax or synchronously with traditional server-side requests (refreshes)?
Remember, on smartphones, the bottleneck isn't javascript's compile time, but mobile carrier speeds.
Btw, I like your suggestion for a design akin medium or subvtle.
I journaled with paper/leather-bound journals for about a decade. I've lost track of a few journals (parents' attic? fingers crossed), and I shudder to think where they've ended up.
About five years ago, I moved to writing entries online. At first, Google Documents, then Svbtle (which is actually a blogging platform, but I used it privately). For the last four years, I've been developing my own online journal since I couldn't find anything else I truly loved: www.kindmind.com.
Feedback welcome and appreciated if you feel like giving it a spin. Happy journaling!
Thanks for your work!
Do you think setting up a Lightning development blog (e.g. https://svbtle.com is very simple and attractive), where every week development notes are posted, could improve transparency and give an easy to read summary for onlookers? This could help keep the community on the same page, and reduce FUD.
Actually, such a 'dev blog updates' thing could even be posted directly to the main page -- http://lightning.network/ -- if the interest is keeping info in one place.

The blog is hosted on https://svbtle.com. Apparently you can email them at .
I'd say learn about typography and color theory. Design is like a framework, you don't have to "have good taste", we have things figured out by now. Less is more, try a minimalist style. For complex stuff, a designer will be required, but you can get quite far with just the basics of design and a minimalist style, kind of like Svbtle.

Bit late here but I've seen a bunch of people run ads on tumblr blogs, sometimes they're placed fairly subtly and made to look nice. So don't necessarily rule that out.
If you're at all into simplistic designs you could think about https://svbtle.com/ as a blogging platform too. I'm not sure about ads on there, though.
