For those who use torrents to download tv shows regularly. TVShows 2 (http://tvshowsapp.com/) is a must. Its a program that allows you to 'subscribe' to popular tv shows and downloads the torrents automatically on release.
Some features include custom added shows (if the one you want isn't there)
Setting the frequency in which the app searches for new releases.
Download in either HD (.mkv) or SD (.avi .mp4 etc.)
Back catalogue of previous episodes/series.
FREE AND MAC(OSX) EXCLUSIVE.
I did the exact same thing (Roku & Hulu+) and am very disappointed that only some of the shows, some of the time are available. In fact, I ditched Hulu+ altogether and have gone to RSS + Torrent + Plex to get my TV fix. So far its working much better than Hulu+ ever did and its free.
tl;dr I wanted to give Hulu my money but they wouldn't give me any value in return. :(
Combine it with a torrent client, an auto-torrent downloader and hook it up to your TV.
I've got a setup like that at home. Ditched cable and I still get to wake up to all my TV already downloaded.
All the TV automation apps are listed in the sidebar under "Automation Software"
/r/DuckieTV
/r/pyMedusa
/r/SickGear
/r/SickRage
/r/Sonarr
If there are others not listed feel free to suggest them.
Hint: Most people will suggest to use /r/Sonarr for tv automation.
If you have a Mac I recommend http://tvshowsapp.com. You subscribe to the ones you want and the torrents/magnets are automatically placed in the designated folder. The app automatically creates sub folders by show, and season within that.
I have setup Hazel to automatically extract any Rars and move the Rars to the trash.
I also use Plex and the media player. It will automatically scan the set folders and add the new media to the play list. Plex also keeps track of which episodes have been watched and lets you delete the media directly from the player if you like.
XBMC is mainly to display and access large movie/TV show collections in the living room. XBMC itself provides no video content, but there are add-ons that do. That being said, I would avoid most of the free-TV show add-ons because the quality isn't very good, and it can often be a very frustrating experience. I prefer to download my shows and then scan them into XBMC. There are programs that can mostly automate this process, as well, such as http://tvshowsapp.com
Hey, if you are interested in setting up Sickbeard or Sickrage (which are great programs, but are somewhat complicated to setup) please checkout this great guide(it also covers Couchpotato for movies, and Headphones for music):

However if you are interested in a simpler solution, which just focuses on television shows and torrents, this is a great app:
Did you already review the Automation Software list in the /r/Torrents sidebar?
For TV
/r/DuckieTV
/r/pyMedusa
/r/SickGear
/r/SickChill
/r/Sonarr
TVShows 2
Sonarr and SickChill tend to be the popular ones.
> When the RSS feed refreshes after that, will it see that those episodes are missing and redownload them?
Yes it's possible but does not happen often in practice. Remember that RSS feeds only contain newly added torrents to a torrent indexing site. Most of the time torrent indexers don't add old previous episodes of an ongoing series, just new ones, hence you typically only see newer episodes show up in an RSS feed.
But sure, if someone were to upload older episodes out of order 2 months later (assuming the torrent indexer didn't already have them) then yes those newly added torrents would be announced in a RSS feed.
You could try tweaking your RSS to narrow down what you're catching in the feed, e.g. only include current season episodes in your regex or however you're doing it, so say you were only interested in season 08 of something
this.show.s08e\d\d.*1080p
.. something like that.
Alternatively you can try using one of the tv automation tools, those tend to be more proactive about scanning for current episodes, etc. See the Automation Software list in the /r/Torrents sidebar e.g.
/r/DuckieTV
/r/pyMedusa
/r/SickGear
/r/SickChill
/r/Sonarr
There is already an entire list in the /r/Torrents sidebar that you can review. e.g.
/r/DuckieTV
/r/pyMedusa
/r/SickGear
/r/SickChill
/r/Sonarr
Or if you're talking about private trackers check out /r/Trackers (in that case you are probably thinking of using autodl-irrsi with private trackers).
I have another idea for script, not sure if you will be able to do anything with it. Found a site with rss feeds, http://tvshowsapp.com/feeds/ is there a way you can make a script using feeds from this site.
TVShows 2 isn't being regularly updated, but is still working just fine. If it doesn't list a show you want, you can typically find it at ShowRSS. Tie it in with Transmission for Bittorrent and you're in good shape. Plus I believe you can setup Couchpotato on the Mac too (although I haven't).
I'm currently using TV Shows 2 right now. It's got a couple blind spots and doesn't get updated often, but is CouchPotato that much better? The whole going through the terminal to install it makes me (perhaps irrationally) tentative.
http://tvshowsapp.com/ - This is a great mac app for automatically downloading shows. Most american shows are included, but there's a tutorial on the website on how to create a rss feed for any show. About 95% of the time Daily Show and Colbert are available by the next morning [whenever they're not on vacation]. Hope this helps!
If you're on a Mac, TV shows is even easier. Even the name is easy. "TV Shows." Speaks for itself.
After that, they automatically download via your torrent client. Before Hulu/Hulu Desktop, I used this essentially as my DVR for all my shows and it worked wonderfully. Don't use it as much now, but it still works with no problems. And no usenet account required.
