> I always saw Renpys main issue being its platform support, it wasn't very good, this has more platform support, since I'm unsure if Renpy does linux.
Per Ren'Py's own site, it'll run on:
> Android 2.3+
> Linux x86/x86_64
> Windows XP+
> Mac OS X 10.6+
> iOS 6+ (beta)
Meanwhile Tyranobuilder claims > Create games on Windows or Mac. Export your games to play on Windows, MacOS, or browser, or convert for iOS, Android smartphones and tablets!
So both have Windows, both have Mac, both can go on Android and iOS (albeit Tyranobuilder needs a free third party conversion software), and then Ren'Py has Linux while Tyrano can go in a browser.
Pretty much a score draw I'd have said?
PPerhaps Tyranobuilder? You don't even need to know how to code to make games using Tyranobuilder, if you can figure out how to use the kids block-based learning website "Scratch" You can probably figure out Tyranobuilder, it's quite intuitive and they even have tutorials on their website if you need help! It's what I've been planning to use when making my otome (haven't started yet, still designing the characters QwQ)
Anyways, here's a link to their website; http://tyranobuilder.com
Yeah, Ren'py and Game Maker is good if you cannot invest on paid tools. Unity is also an option. The newest Ren'py is super powerful already so as long as you don't mind the scripting, you can do a lot of things. Even Live2D if you really want to.
Now if you don't mind paying a bit, TyranoBuilder is a plug and play type engine that you can build games on without much programming. There's also Visual Novel Maker, though I don't really know if VNM is better than Tyrano. The kinda plus side of VNM is that it comes with some pre-packaged assets.

You could also opt to make a Visual Novel game of these things. The top two current programs are Renpy and Tyranobuilder. Thus giving you visuals and a little more organized set up.

going through the turorial right now. pretty freaking easy to get stuff up and running. dragging and dropping assets to include into a project is nice, as well.
> Can you directly change graphic elements like textboxes?
Yes. Here is a basic tutorial: http://tyranobuilder.com/customize-the-message-window-and-menus/
> Is there support for voices?
Dedicated VO support is on the way, but in the meantime voices can be added as sound effects and their behaviour adapted using scripting.
> do you have any uploaded examples of an iOS app that utilises this natively?
Not in English yet. Let me check with the dev about Japanese products & get back.
