What do use at university? Xiphos626's suggestion of Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 is an alright option. MinGW 64 bit is exactly what you need, you should locate the files...do you know where it unzipped to?
If you are looking for an IDE(which comes with a compiler, it's the whole environment, Integrated Development Environment) I however say do not go for Bloodshed Dev c++ as that is now obsolete. There's WxDev-C++, however I think that I'd recommend Code::Blocks
Here's a direct link to a download for Windows of a Code::Blocks setup that includes MinGW
wxWidgets sounds like a decent choice. If I recall at least some IDEs (I think CodeBlocks and wxDev-C++ - although the latter is heavily outdated) offer drag'n'drop extensions for it to make your life easier.
