Here is a good one I use: CitizenVPN
Also you can use it for like watching Netflix when abroad or getting Netflix from different zones (different content in UK vs. US and so on).
Get a VPN account...
edit: I should clarify. While using a VPN works great for playing (I use CitizenVPN which is super stable and play on PokerStars), there is still an issue regarding payout. This requires a bank account in a foreign country (if you are US resident).
I am not US resident, but I use the VPN all the time to play when traveling.
As a US resident you could possibly get a bank account in Canada? or somewhere else without having to actually move there. Maybe someone else have some experience with this?
Of course, all this is not an issue if you are a loosing player :) :) Simply keep depositing money (they have various ways, also f.ex. visa gift cards etc)
All EU based VPNs have to keep logs due to the EU logging directive!
That's why I'm using CitizenVPN which is EU based BUT delivers its service from a company in the Bahamas....
Basically I wouldn't trust any VPN that isn't doing something like this.
There was also, not long a go, a scandal where Hidemyass gave logs to the UK government (they are UK based) and someone was busted for something....
Your only safe bet on any website is to use a VPN such as CitizenVPN
Any webserver usually logs IP addresses as well as your user agent (what browser and OS you are using) and also which site referred you (if you clicked on a link to get to a particular site). They do this to be able to fix problems with the server so they can see in their logs where the traffic came from etc. And ofcourse the police/courts can subpoena this info. Remember also, in most EU countries the ISPs have to log information about all the websites (and other services) you visit as part of the anti-terror laws. In just about any country after they get the IP address from the webserver they also get the info from your ISP to verify it and then they bust you. With a VPN connection they can only trace as far as to the VPN server which does not keep any logs containing IP addresses etc..
Here is a description on how it works
I use and can recommend CitizenVPN which is from Denmark but legalwise deliver from Bahamas so they don't have to comply with EU logging laws.
Be aware of EU VPNs that don't state anything about if they log or not (because then they probably do log).
There's still VPN connections. Those are point to point encrypted (computer to VPN server) so it doesn't matter if they have chips in between, like in the routers.
Can recommend CitizenVPN
..or they can just get a VPN (based outside UK). At the same time this will protect them from Camerons GCHQ snooping on them and other things too.
Can recommend CitizenVPN, it's Danish.
You have to use a VPN service that allows you to connect with the OpenVPN protocol on TCP port 443.
This is the same port as regular encrypted (i.e. HTTPS) traffic and using similar encryption, so nobody will be able to distinguish your traffic from regular HTTPS traffic.
F.ex. with our service, CitizenVPN, and then you're good to go. Our Android app gives 1 day free service with no strings attached.
edit: If you want to be sure they don't detect you, then switch server country often and don't download huge files all day long as this might give you away. If your schools admin looks up your target VPN server IP he might discover you are using a VPN. So use at your own risk and carefully and don't abuse your schools network.
You can actually get that with a VPN (from anywhere in the world). You just continue to use your normal Netflix account and Netflix will serve you content that is from the region it thinks you're in. So log on to a US VPN server and you're good to go!
You can even create a new Netflix account (even with a UK credit card) while connected via VPN to a US server. Then Netflix will only charge you 8$ instead of what you're paying now (which is always more than in the US).
I've used CitizenVPN for a long time and it works great. I'm also using the UK and DK servers to get Netflix content from UK and Denmark as well.. and I'm using it on my PC and also on my Boxee Box.
I use CitizenVPN.
Check out CitizenVPN. They have very fast servers (I can easily max out my 100mbit fiber, and they mention gigabit servers) and based out of Denmark and Bahamas specifically to avoid logging and cannot be pressured by US or EU.
Hi. At CitizenVPN we have the option of using Western Union or MoneyGram (besides Bitcoin). However depending on your location this may not be totally anonymous (they might require to see ID when sending).
You could also maybe try to buy a pre-paid visa card, but not sure where you can do that anonymously.
You'll most likely be fine assuming the copyright owner doesn't decide to come after you. I would highly recommend that you get yourself a VPN service like CitizenVPN. Since I've signed up with them I've not received any more notices. And there service is super easy to use, cheap and fast. An all around win in my book. I signed up with the pay as you go plan just to try out but as soon as my allotment of usage is up I'm going all out and getting unlimited which is only about $14ish in US money.
CitizenVPN is blazing fast, I've gotten 40mbit + before. Not the cheapest though...
Also, downloading without a VPN is dangerous, anybody can see what you download and what your IP address is. People have been massively sued before for this.
You can use CitizenVPN.
I'm interested in knowing what exactly goes wrong for you when trying to set up a VPN?
I can confirm that CitizenVPN works from China. Netflix works on some of their servers but not the US or UK ones. They have very fast servers and support is really good. Also they have an Android app which connects with OpenVPN so that also works from China. It is not the cheapest out there but on the other hand it works well.
Don't use hidemyass they recently gave logs about a user to the authorities who then arrested him. There was a big scandal in the news about this.
I use CitizenVPN. The speed is very good too.
I've tried it using CitizenVPN. Not from the US, but from Denmark to UK. It works just fine and it's very stable.
In Denmark they (government) made a monopoly on the login method (a centralized piece of crap) along with the banks etc. But Pokerstars have this login method now so now I don't have to use VPN.
Not sure how you woudl cash out. I guess the easiest is to open a bank account somewhere, like in the UK.
I would add CitizenVPN and they are upfront about who they are and have both PPTP and OpenVPN in multiple countries. Ipredator is just a rebranded version of relakks which is a bit scetchy and only has 128bit PPTP and afaik only a server in Sweden. Also relakks/ipredator is logging your IP as they are based in Sweden and therefore have log your actions to according to EU data retention law.
