For anyone with a smartphone I can't recommend MH4U Database enough. It's available on iOS and Android.
It gives you the ability to create wishlists that list out all the materials and Zenny you need to complete them. You can look up each items rarity and it'l list the best percentages of getting that item. If that's not enough you can add in your resources yourself to these wishlists. I could edit one saying I have 15/15 of the scales I need and it'd highlight the materials you have and even highlight the parts you can make.
All in all this is a great companion app for anyone who loves MH4U. Oh did I mention all of this information is stored for offline use, cause it is. No more relying on the wiki when you don't even have a connection.
You should just try to help us with the MH4U Database app for Android! We're always looking for developers. Plus our wishlist function could use some work!
PM me and I'll help you get set up.
> at the very least check Kiranico to see the drop rates and make sure you break required parts or cut tails
Dunno if you already heard of it but you can also use an app on Android if you have one. It's called MH4U database and it really helps a lot when you need quick and detailed info like drop rates and which parts to break to get them.
If you have a smartphone I recommend https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.daviancorp.android.mh4udatabase
It has tons of info for everything from monsters to weapons, to armor and armor skills
Bookmark this site - Kiranico and/or get this Android app - MH4U Database (someone chime in with the iOS equiv please?)
They provide an absurd amount of information, from where to get an item, what you can use an item to make, how the monster you get it from will try to kill you, the best way for you to kill the monster, etc.
I don't know one for Mhp3 specifically, but monsters don't change drastically from game to game, so one from MH4U should do its job for hitzones, elemental weakness etc.
Android App
there should be a Iphone version as well somewhere.
if some monsters are missing in MH4U Database, take a look at MHGen Database, maybe its in there.
There's an app called MH4U database. It lists the order of zones where the monsters go. It's really helpful.
If you have an Android phone MH4U database is an essential app while playing
Much easier to look things up and will tell you where you what you need for just about anything.
Okay yeah the more I look the more people suggest that app. this is the app I was using Thanks for the reply!
Originally I was looking at Rathalos and the Shagaru Magala because that's where I'm at in the story as well as zamtrios, Lagombie, and Zinogre and it was the same for all of them so I just started going through all the monsters and it seemed blunt damage was unanimously better. I made a similar post in the dumb question thread and they also suggested that app so I'm downloading it right now(or just looking at it? I cant find a smart phone app). Thanks much for the reply :)
Edit: This is the app I was using
These are the ones that I have on my phone and tablet:
MH4U Database for Android on Google Play
MH3U Database for Android, also on Google Play
Definitely the most used programs on my phone! ^(Even more than making phone calls.) They also have a wishlist feature so you can keep track of what items you'll need to craft or upgrade your desired weapon, armor piece, or decoration!
I haven't used iOS in years, so I don't know if there's a database app on the Apple Store.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.daviancorp.android.mh4udatabase&hl=en_GB
Also has this function for people with smart phones (It's on iOS as well), If you add items to your wishlist you can view a complete list of materials and money needed to craft / upgrade the items.
Why does this app need access to incoming calls and other permissions?
For comparison look at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.daviancorp.android.mh4udatabase
The advantage your app looks to have over it is weapon previews, but to me it's not worth being datamined. If you removed the intrusive permission demands I would try your app out. (Unlike iOS, we don't have the ability to tailor app permissions in the system settings without having rooted the device)
Grab the MH4U database on Android or iOS. It's got a lot of the Kiraniko data but it works much faster and is offline.
We've got a pending update coming out for Android with monster ailments, weaknesses, and an armor set maker. I don't know how long it'll take for those features to get to iOS though.
I don't believe Kiranico has subquest rewards listed. You can reference our MH4U app if you've got an android phone. I'm not sure if Ping's Dex or the US Wiki have subquest rewards, haven't checked them in a while.
We're working on an MHGen Database app that will be an improved version of the MH4U Database app.
First up, your bibles:
They provide an absurd amount of information, from where to get an item, what you can use an item to make, how the monster you get it from will try to kill you, the best way for you to kill the monster, etc.
As to IG, I get to copy and paste my primer again!
> There are four essence colors: > > 1. Red - Attacking parts (heads, claws, stingers, etc) - 60s -gives attack up and makes your attacks hit harder, hit more per move, or both. > 2. White - Movement parts (legs, wings, etc) - 90s - gives you higher movement speed and makes your R+B jump higher > 3. Orange - Defensive or "body" parts (torsos mainly) - 45s - Gives you defense up and resistance to knock-back from weak hits (superarmor) > 4. Green - Parts that don't fit the above (generally tails) - Heals you for about the same as an herb > > The three buff slots are for only red, only white, and only orange in that order. An early capture of a color you still have refreshes its duration. These combine into better versions of the individual essences: > > 1. RW - also gives attack up (s) > 2. WO - also gives defense up (s) and Earplugs (stops weak roars) > 3. RWO - gives attack and defense up (L), and earplugs. Lasts exactly 60s regardless of the timers on the juices before it, and leaves you buffless after. > > All of the above combos stack on top of the normal juice benefits. > > Red is so important because it not only gives you more attack, but makes your hits harder and more frequent, which naturally stack together. More hits mean more status or element damage too. Red also makes your air attack for mounting hit twice instead of once, halving the number of jumps you need to mount. Most low rank monsters get mounted after a single double hit! > > White's jump height is also quite good - you can dodge over some monsters that are too tall otherwise, jump up to some that are too tall to mount or hit the part you need to break, and even jump up some ledges (try it out in Ancestral Steppe 8!). > > Conveniently, so long as you don't need something special like hitting upwards, the only combo you ever need to do is X→X→A, regardless of what juices you have - that will always chain forever, and deal the highest sustained damage. > > TL;DR? Bug the face for deeps, XXA. Then bug the legs for MORE DEEPS, XXA. Then bug the chest for MOST DEEPS, XXA. Throw in some RB→X in there to mount it to XXA in peace after red.
The MH4U Database app recently added a similar summary! You should check it out!

Edit: http://www.desiresensor.com/ might be useful to you too. At least while getting to the mountain.
Excuse me sir, but may I have a minute of your time to talk about our Lord and Savior MH4U Database?
I cannot recommend this app enough.

MH4U database for Android does as well as kiranico
Unfortunately, to know what you get with enough skill points, you'll probably need to look at an app (MH4U Database for Android or iOS is what I use) or a reference site (Kiranico or the wiki), or even use Ping's Dex (which I believe is the primary source for pretty much every app and site).
Once you know what a skill does, however (eg Charmer increases your chance of getting charms, Fate affects your end quest rewards), then you don't really need to know that 15 points of Fate gives you the Great Luck skill (I'm going to call these abilities, because things are going to get confusing in a moment), while -15 gives you Horrible Luck, just that more points nets you a better reward for completion, and negative points net you a worse one (explicitly, the former often gives you more rewards, while the latter often decreases the amount of rewards).
You get an ability every 5 points, normally starting after 10 positive or negative skill points. Some skills have no negative effect (eg Blast C+ has a +10 ability, and no -10 ability), while some have only one ability (again, Blast C+ has a +10 ability, and nothing above that). In LR, armour sets have enough points to give you one to three positive abilities and between zero and one negative ones, all matched up, meaning complete sets are the way to go. From HR, however, armour sets may have multiple skills per piece, but only three or four that match up: the rest need to be gemmed up (ie decorations need to be inserted into the armour's slots), or fixed with a charm. From HR, mix-and-matching armour pieces is more viable, as different pieces may match the skill you want to get points in, and there may be enough slots to add even more skill points and activate more abilities.
Please note, I only hit HR a few days ago, and have been bumming around finishing the 6* quests. I only started doing HR quests in the last few days, after making an HR Tetsucabra Blademaster armour set (by grinding the Hunt-A-Thon). And don't worry: people here are happy to help. And probably will, to prevent this post causing any issues due to how incorrect it is.
Good hunting!
Google was my friend. :)

Just a courtesy update, we're up on the play store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.daviancorp.android.mh4udatabase
Should be easier to update from now on!
You probably already know that the most in-depth monster write-ups are on the Wikia, that the best quick resource for simple data is Kiranico, and that the MH4U Database app on Android is pretty damn amazing.
But it sounds like you don't know about this amazing quick reference spreadsheet on Google docs. I keep it open on my tablet so I can make a quick check & adjustment to prep for fights that are somewhere between trivial and ball-busting. The resource info on the other sheets (down at the bottom) can come in handy too!

Is that PPSSPP running on an android watch? Say good bye to both your time and battery life...
Having played MH on the watch a bit... Hmm, what's the time. Checks watch Damn, out of battery.
Though granted it's only some watches like the Apple watch that have especially abysmal battery life. Traditional watch FTW! I've got a smartphone that can do that sort of stuff anyway. And even that would struggle with battery life if I played MH on it. Most handy thing to have on that watch is this. It's like a portable Ping's dex! Handy when one is out and about and needs to know what parts they need for their next piece of equipment and the like.
