For anyone with a smartphone I can't recommend MH4U Database enough. It's available on iOS and Android.
It gives you the ability to create wishlists that list out all the materials and Zenny you need to complete them. You can look up each items rarity and it'l list the best percentages of getting that item. If that's not enough you can add in your resources yourself to these wishlists. I could edit one saying I have 15/15 of the scales I need and it'd highlight the materials you have and even highlight the parts you can make.
All in all this is a great companion app for anyone who loves MH4U. Oh did I mention all of this information is stored for offline use, cause it is. No more relying on the wiki when you don't even have a connection.
You should just try to help us with the MH4U Database app for Android! We're always looking for developers. Plus our wishlist function could use some work!
PM me and I'll help you get set up.
Please, make your life easier and create a survey in Survey Monkey for free. Then you can ask multiple questions and use page/question logic or whatever you want.
I'm cringing at the thought of how long it's going to take you to compile this data by hand
We should get a couple of Royal Ludroth as well, everyone loves them.
Maybe not, but at least it's not a Yian Garuga or Kut-Ku. Can you imagine if those escaped?
No touch up paint on Nerg at all.
This is the blind box series
From what I've read so far, it's about some guy who is a descendant of some ancient hero who travels to the world of monster hunter to learn how to become a hunter, only to return to Los Angeles when monsters attack. Needless to say, it'll most likely not be good. So it has a parallel universe, a chosen one, and probably a macguffin too (some weapon or skill). And apparently there are two movies planned. In my opinion, it ruins the idea that monsters are just creatures roaming the world that occasionally present danger to humans, This makes them seem more like malicious creatures out to kill humans. So, I most likely won't even see it.

It's a God Talisman for sure, but hmm, 8 status on Miracle Talisman (Graven charm)? Is that possible?

Sorry, hope bew like this one better. Same pics.

Yeah it's Ryozo Tsujimoto. I got him to sign my freedom Unite psp game a good few years ago and it's exactly the same signature.
Alternatively, for anyone in the US on the fence about PS+ for a year once the full game comes out: Amazon has a full year of PS+ for $40 right now.
I got a Kalimba after seeing OP's first post. I forget the song. It was the Stars at Our Back song I think.
Anyway I'm the same way. Did probably too much research before buying one. Actually ended up buying three and returning two in the end.
If you just want to save time and a little stressing out, here's where my research led me:
By the way, I ended up learning OPs song! So that's how easy it is to learn on this thing. You can go to never touching one to learning a whole song in no time.
It might be a bit too early, but it'll probably happen.
Probably kiranico or Ping will have the database and an app will come later on.
Also, there was an app for gen
I'm in Malaysia, so hardware hacking options are limited/non-existent (locally).
I'm not too sure I want to resort to that for the 3DS yet. I like the portability (just bring around a small anti-slip), I play mostly at work. During breaks only, I promise!
If it were the Classic Controller Pro I would be more tempted, I tried that to play MH Tri before. Very usable (barring underwater).
Additional tools are certainly things I may look at for general PC gaming! Thanks for the mention though. Something like this (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:166299) but extended to be pushable located below the XYBA buttons would be interesting.
We now have titles for the two new monsters. Anjanath is 蛮顎竜 (Ban Gaku Ryuu), which roughly translates to Barbarian Jaw Wyvern. Great Jagras is 賊竜 (Zoku Ryuu) which roughly translates to Thief Wyvern.
Since it gives us a render of Rathalos in its traditional pose, here it is next to similar poses in cut scene renders from MH1 and MH4.
> only limits the variety of end game weapons.
As opposed to?
Even with Yellow Sharpness not having the Low Sharpness Modifier, Yellow + Bludgeoner is still overall weaker than natural white sharpness with no armour skill active. At a summed true raw value of 79, with 0% affinity, a white weapon does more damage than a yellow weapon with bludgeoner: https://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=(x%2B25)*1+%3D+(x)+*+1.32
Alternative graph: https://www.desmos.com/calculator/fgnys2hxdw
I personally find the "variety" of MHGen's "end-game weapons" a lot worse than MH4U. The only sleep Duals has something like 2 Sleep value. There is no Sleep LongSword. Outside of fringe scenarios, almost all weapon classes are going to deviate towards a selection of 2-3 different weapons. This is how it is and has been in every Monster Hunter game, largely due to math and analysis. None of MHGen's new upgrade system has changed this.
Sure, in MHGen you can fully upgrade a weapon to have end-game stats, but this by itself does not make every weapon worth using. For example, the Kirin Duals are by far the best pair of Thunder Duals, even if there are maybe 3-6 other Thunder Duals to choose from.
The fact that natural white is preferred rules out a large amount of weapons, and Green + Bludgeoner, at best, helps a weapon break even, but this requires an armour skill investment that isn't necessary for natural white.
The joke comes from Famitsu's incestuous advertising ties to the games that have received perfect or near perfect scores. A good example of this was their Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker review. Combine that with the infamous brevity of the actual reviews and it's no wonder they're often not taken seriously.
At the end of the day, MHW may be a wonderful game worthy of any praise it receives, but I won't really take anything Famitsu says about the game at face value.
Hey, I had the same project!
I decided to do the head of NCHProduction's rathalos. I wanted to do the entire thing, but I simply did not have the time and dedication.
Here it is. I use this app to view it. It seems Chinese as fuck but it works and doesn't bother you or tank the battery, and it's the only one that gets the job done.
The video isn't from mhgu, it's from mhp3rd running on PPSSPP.
>You need to realize in the West, NO MH game will get a decent review.
MH3 also has 0 negative reviews on metacritic.
There is no way to do that.
MHF2/MHFU and MH:World are separated by 3 generations of MH titles, across several different consoles (from PSP to PS3, Wii, Wii U, 3DS, Switch, and now with World PS4, Xbox One, and PC).
What you can do with the savefiles, since you've had them for a while, is copy them over to your PC and use them to play MHF2/MHFU on the PSP Emulator, PPSSPP:
As for Monster Hunter: World; you can simply make a new character and name it/try to customize it to look like your old character.
> but if you get hit a lot, I better stack some defense.
You run into diminishing returns the more defense you stack. Let's say you have 500 armour. Adding an additional 100 is not going to reduce the damage you take by 20% more. The damage formula for determining the damage you take is as follows:
[quest attack modifier] * [attack value] * [rage modifier] * 80 / ([total defense] + 80) * (1 - [element res] / 100)
If we take all variables and set them to "1" (but give the attack value 100), and only manipulate total defense:
1 * 100 * 1 * 80 / (500 + 80) * 1 = 13.79 1 * 100 * 1 * 80 / (600 + 80) * 1 = 11.76
11.76 / 13.79 = 0.85 600/500 = 1.2
Increasing your defense value by 20% reduces your damage taken by 15% when moving from 500 defense to 600 defense.
Graphing the formula out highlights this. The more you stack in defense, the less value you get out of it.
Additionally, the less damage you deal, the longer your hunts take, and longer hunts increase the opportunities a monster has to hit you. Being able to completely and consistently flinch lock a monster to death makes for a much safer hunt than having 900+ defense values.
Not a thread, but are you thinking of this guide?
Some of the rates in that thread seem a little off to me. You could always run some quick numbers yourself with this tool.
Here's just a week long snippet of console sales in Japan back in November to further reinforce how little its presence is over there. I'm still actually surprised (and happy) that xbox is even getting the title!
I found the quote below so I went with no armor/talisman, no food skill, no Shakalakas, into Village 5★ quest “Harvest Tour: Volcano” & 4★ “Harvest Tour: Tundra” and tested these areas:
Therefore I assume Volcano areas 8/9/10 (vivid red colour on the map) are considered “extreme hot” where Cool Drinks last about 30% less time. Tundra area 6 is the only vivid white-coloured zone on the map so I'm gonna assume there's no other “extreme cold” area. It kinda surprises me that I couldn't find any mention of that on the Internet, outside of the quote below.
Moral of the story: we should read more often what the Guild Sweetheart says!
> [Darkraiku, from GameFAQs] Depends on the area, Volcano and Tundra have both hot/cold and extreme hot/cold areas. In the extreme ones the drinks last less time. You can kinda tell by the Map color, volcano for example has red and deep red areas. Cold drinks last less time in the deep red zones. The guild sweetheart offline mentions this sometimes.
I'm not going to go into any of the disallowed stuff for obvious reasons, but as far as Emulators go your best (and only, really) bet would be PPSSPP. Convenient, since it's one of the best emulators out there in terms of usability and interface IMO, alongside Dolphin.
There's a beginners guide for PPSSPP on the official forum here, though I haven't used it to check if it's up to date etc myself, it should work good to go off of.
I spent 134 hours with MHW. I have spent over 190 hours with MHGU, which I picked up after.
I think of it like this: MHW is the flashy feature-length film, polished and shining, full of explosions, but over pretty fast. MHGU is the TV series that started the craze, full of quirks you have to get around but with WAY more content and room to explore.
My original Monster Hunter game was MH Tri on the Wii, which is much closer to MHGU in style, so for that reason MHGU was very nostalgic in a way that MHW was not. So that's one draw that I knew about going in.
A few things about MHGU I did NOT expect to make as much of a difference, but have really helped it become the main game for me, are: 1. The Switch can be paused at any time. MHW can never be paused. I have an infant at home. This made a huge difference in my gaming quality of life. 2. You can play as a cat. And the cats have their own leveling system and have way more unique powers and skills and oh god so many cat puns. 3. Way more armor and weapon variety.
Hope this helps! Also, don't trust the MHGU demo to give you a good impression. It actually turned me off to the game before I got more of a sense of how the progression actually worked. For me, Monster Hunter is all about that progression... not being thrown into a monster fight with no idea what your gear does and no potential to use what you get afterward.
Edit: also, there is an AMAZING app for MHGU with a database of all items, monsters, quest unlocks, etc. It's free, too. Something I wish MHW had. Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ghstudios.android.mhgendatabase&hl=en_US
http://www.gamefaqs.com/psp/991479-monster-hunter-portable-3rd/faqs/61837
We don't know for sure what it is for 3U since the 3ds is currently a closed system so portable 3rd formulas are sort of the best we have right now.
Uragaan is actually very weak to Slime, in terms of resistance.
I make it a point to use Slime on anything with Low resistance, or that takes above-average damage. I use this gamefaqs post as a guide. Basically Slime is effective on the following:
Virtually every single one of these has low resistance, save for Deviljho and the Elder Dragons. Duramboros, Deviljho, and all Elder Dragons take increased damage from slime explosions, as opposed to the standard 200 for every other monster. Alatreon in particular is weak to slime because he has low resistance AND takes increased damage. This means Slime is a viable option for all of these monsters, and Slime in general is the best if you're looking to break parts. However, for Deviljho and Hallowed Jhen, I've gotten faster clear times with their elemental weakness and Elemental Atk+1 over Slime and Bombardier + Pyro.
To be devil's advocate, base MHW still has way more content than some AAA titles have through DLC nowadays, and if gradual content really is a problem, you could just wait a few months to buy/play it plus it would probably go on sale then (Hell, it's on sale now).
Only looking at the base game here:
Smyths has it for £43.99. If you pre-order for store collection, get a further £5 off. Cheaper, but you have to pick it up yourself. Depending how close you are, this could be amazing or horrible (£38.99 cheapest)
Amazon has it for £41.99. Prime subscribers (even in demo) get a further £2 off on shipping, and shipping is free. I've never had issues getting the game at a reasonable time on the day, but you won't have it from midnight (£39.99 cheapest)
Argos has it for £41.99. Free delivery. Don't know about in-store pick up. I avoid buying from Argos, as they really screwed up for me previously, so no idea about how quick their delivery is.
Shopto has it for £42.85. Free delivery. The site advertises that it ships to arrive by release date, but I've never heard of them before.
Game has it for £46.99. Free delivery or pick up. I've pre-ordered through Game twice - once it arrived a day before release, once it arrived after midday on day of release, so YMMV.
PSN has it for £49.99, but you can (probably) download it in advance, and then play from midnight, although I can't confirm that
From the look of the actual MHW site, you get the bonus armour/charm from pre-ordering anywhere, not just on PSN. However, PSN gets you a special theme for your PS4.
By Googling "cheap MHW pre-order", I found this, which shows Amazon is the cheapest, although it doesn't take extra money off into account.
I bought some black rubber sheets from Amazon, something like this https://www.amazon.com/6x6-Inch-Neoprene-Plumbing-Material-Protection/dp/B018H9CCPG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1482726076&sr=8-2&keywords=black+rubber+sheet.
Cut the sheets down via exacto knife or box cutter. Two strips of 5mm x ~8.0 or ~8.5cm(this part can be adjusted).
I used Gorilla glue to glue them down, specifically the gel kind. I started near the top and then worked my down towards the curved edges on the bottom.
The end result looks like this: http://imgur.com/a/PSneJ
I loved the grip prior to doing this but the wobble drove me crazy, hope this helps. You can find the sheets in stores like Home Depot as well in the plumbing section but may not be black or as cheap.
For android you can use MHGUDB app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ghstudios.android.mhgendatabase
I think they are still trying to capture the iOS app dev to have him port it over to that side, but they constantly end up killing him by accident instead, repeatedly failing the quest.
For future reference: https://mhgu.kiranico.com or just ask in the weekly questions thread
If you have android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ghstudios.android.mhgendatabase (there should be a version of the app for iPhones as well)
I think so but its a lot more convenient than using a browser.
Edit: Lol I forgot to say its an android app. This one https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ghstudios.android.mhgendatabase
Download the MHGen app for Android for your material needs and you're golden.
I don't like to make posts that just refer someone to a guide, but do a bit of scrolling here - http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/762804-monster-hunter-4-ultimate/71114233 - and you'll probably find what you're looking for, and then some. Or at least, the baseline for how it works so it won't seem so intimidating when you actually get to that point.
According to this gamefaqs post it deals 100 damage, but can't kill the monster, it'll just leave it with 1 HP.
edit: something I can't seem to find... can you mount a monster when it's in rage mode? If so, would it be best to wait til a monster is raging then mount it to stop its rage early?
This basically states that most weapons apply 100% of true elemental with each attack as opposed to most attack motions dealing a percentage of true raw. Faster weapons pull of more attacks and lead to doing more overall elemental than raw. With that, Dual Blades basically need modifiers to its elemental application otherwise they would be too overpowered. The data linked is tailored to MHP3rd but should still hold true to MH3U.
Here's the link that mentions how much damage the shells do. There's a link in that thread that shows where they're getting the numbers from.
Calm down, there's no PC version too in Japan.
MHW is a collab between Sony that want to make a million hit In Japan and MH series that want to success in the west.
If you see in bigger picture its make sense
>But Sony is already success in Japan
Yeah but not million hit like Pokemon
I'm too lazy to make another comparison.
Just use this worldwide data, not even game with GOTY-quality like P5 or Nier reach this : https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/finance/software/3ds.html
And that's just 1 franchise that sold over 30 million (all sale reach 279 fyi)

I can help you out with any class with gear and tactics suggestions. If you're running out of ammo with BG, you're either not using the right shots on the right creatures or you've got the wrong equipment. I wrote a guide a while back with a BG specific guide for this quest that'll hopefully help (it's at the end):

Might I suggest LibGDX? http://libgdx.badlogicgames.com/
These tutorials will get you started. But don't skimp on the basics (unless you already know them) starting with the core of java would be my best advice then move on to programming games.
The MHGU Database app from Gathering Hall Studios is my go to. It's a fantastic, free app without annoying ads. Play store & Apple Store
It has weapon trees, armor & skill info, monster info, quest lists, palico/prowler equipment and skills, item & combo lists, and maps with gathering locations. It also has a nice armor set builder and a wishlist to keep track of what items you are after.
Hello all! I posted a prototype Kustom Wallpaper a week back, and now I have the final version ready for your Kustom pleasure.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mh.kustom.pack
Any questions then please let me know!
> at the very least check Kiranico to see the drop rates and make sure you break required parts or cut tails
Dunno if you already heard of it but you can also use an app on Android if you have one. It's called MH4U database and it really helps a lot when you need quick and detailed info like drop rates and which parts to break to get them.
This is incorrect. According to Mazereon:
"While above it says elemental shots are only elemental damage, that's not strictly true. Elemental Shots are mostly elemental damage, but do have a small Shot damage portion. Only the shot damage is affected by Affinity, so if you have a gun with strong negative affinity it will still function well with Elemental shots. The raw portion of an elemental shell is miniscule though, this note is only here for completeness sake."
Elemental Shots have always dealt a small amount of Raw.
I know you're being facetious but abusing the guaranteed crit is incredibly useful if you're hunting event Jhen. This works because from the third swing onwards, the combo counts as one attack. Seriously just try it. http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/683294-monster-hunter-3-ultimate/68949638/779633162
I recall an advanced quest with a purple ludroth and pink rathian giving a real good chance of awarding mantles. One sec I'll check online.
Edit: Try Peak Performers (G-Rank 1*) http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/642342-monster-hunter-3-ultimate/66027135
Edit2: Cosmic tickets depend on the unity level between you and another hunter. Keep street passing their guild card to raise this.
> I'm asking what bows should i make for each one of the elements =P
Even that is too difficult of a question to answer, because with bow, you have to consider not only element, but shot type as well. Normal is best against some monsters, pierce against others, and spread against others still.
Basically, there's a use for more of the bows than there are of any of the other weapons in the game.
Check out the bottom post of this GameFAQs discussion. The guy down there talks about each of the final bows, so you'll have an idea of what you should work for.
To check which charm table you're in you first have to download Athena's Fish Finder. It's rather simple to use, and the linked post tells you what you have to do. Whether your charm table is good or bad you can see here in post #4. You're good as long as you aren't in the "cursed tables" 11, 12, 15, 16 and 17.
The thing with charm tables is, as far as I understand it, a bug. In older MH games you also got a charm table, but it changed all the time. But in this game it doesn't change, and the one you get when creating a character is the one you're stuck with. This is of course pretty bad since you'll never get some charms that are locked away in other tables, and if you're really unlucky you get a cursed table which not only contain very, very few and very bad charms, one table even completely prevents you from ever finding rustshards.
>write porn game about mollusks
>becomes obscenely popular media franchise because of the "writing"
Be careful though, in-game representation of the face in character creation may not reflect upon in-game engine render... xD
You hire felyne chefs to work in the kitchen in your house. They stay there, level up when they cook for you, sometimes give you gifts when you talk to them, and so on. To eat you sit down at the table, but they can also BBQ your raw meat for you via the board on the left.
I guess eating is as useful as in 3U but the whole system is a bit more oblique. Basically, each combination of ingredient 1 + ingredient 2 + number of chefs yields a specific effect. Additionally, the level and food specialisation of your chefs affect whether they'll also buff you with one of their skills. Check out this faq, like everything that doesn't involve descriptions of physical buttons, PSP version guides still apply to the iOS version.
I don't think there's a way to eat from the online hall. The PSP only had local multiplayer so going to the kitchen and back via the quick destination select menu was no big deal.
TL;DR means "too long, didn't read".
> I feel like lbg damage build instead of elemental should be >viable< somehow.
First of all, I hate that word. It's working right? That means it's viable.
Normal, Elemental, Pierce, Explosive -- each style, when built properly, has monsters that it excels against and monsters which it does poorly against. Pierce and Normal happen to be the most versatile, in that you can get reasonable killtimes against most monsters and don't have to worry about switching sets or executional complexity. Explosive does best in "sprint" settings where the monster will assuredly die before you exhaust your resources, and will generally result in the fastest times out of all 4 styles assuming, again, that your resources aren't drained. Elemental will generally claim the fastest times out of the four styles against anything with a 35 hitzone or higher and can otherwise handle itself well on anything with at least a 25 hitzone. Normal will excel against anything with a 65 hitzone or higher. Pierce will yield the most consistent results out of all the styles and usually places better than Normal and about equal with Elemental.
Read these: https://www.reddit.com/r/MonsterHunter/wiki/weapon_guides-mhgen
According to this faq, heavenly scales from G-Rank narga body carves is 2%. I assume that this is the chance per carve, as that's never explicitly stated.
The chances of getting exactly 2/3 of the carves being heavenly scales comes to a grand total of 0.118% chance (binomial distribution)
So congratulations one being extremely lucky!

If you want to be proficient at Bowgunning you need to really know your monster. For instance, what were you fighting that you unloaded Normal shots on? Was it a Diablos? If so, you would have been better off with either Pierce shots or Ice elemental shots. However, if it were something small, like a Jaggi, than Normal shots are fine. As for bowgun construction -- once you have a better understanding of what the different shots do and what monsters they are effective against, well it all falls into place. I'd recommend some time with VampireCosmonaut's Bowgun Companion:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/wii/943655-monster-hunter-tri/faqs/59978
As for your blademaster armor sets...
The best Lance set according to many is Agnaktor for Guard +1-2 and Razor Sharp. You can gem in anything else you'd like. I also like Barioth for the Evasion+1-2 and/or Evade Distance Up
The best for GS where you are now would probably be Diablos for Critical Draw.

I made this for the Monster Hunter Generations contest. I also have a video showing my process working on this model here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdqWTB6u5mQ
In this video I'll be showing you a sculpt of the Voltaic Axe from Monster Hunter Generations! I'll tell you a little bit about the tools I'm using and what is running through my brain while I work. Hopefully you learn something new!
If you would like to download the original files, all OBJs, STLs, and even the Ztools and HD Renders, you can do so here for free: https://gumroad.com/l/Fkqyv
I just want to point out that is depends on what type of charm you are going for. Remember, charms from Enduring table are different from distorted or graven. The best advice is to look at something like https://onedrive.live.com/view.aspx?resid=35D5BA6D70979C33!640&ithint=file%2cxlsx&app=Excel&authkey=!AKU6nSwmHBAlbfk and figure out what skills/values you are going for and target that area. Timeworn are High Rank, Weathered (Enduring) are G-rank, distorted are 86+ guild quest, and graven are 126+ guild quest
The link you provided only works for the PPSSPP Emulator (PC and mobile devices). This is not a functionality available on a PSVita version of the game.
Those texture mods are good enough, but you will need PPSSPP to mod and play the modded game:
I like that explanation the best as pseudo-possible, but still I don't think it would work for real.
The masses we're talking about here are huge and hydrogen being the lightest element wouldn't be that useful. Them being used for attitude control only shows that they aren't really useful for main staging.
Also, the heat of combustion for hydrogen, meaning the energy it would get from combustion, is incredibly low compared to other rocket fuels like kerosene. As seen here hydrogen has 285 kj/mol and kerosene has 8,000. So you get a double wammy of very low mass and very low energy released. The energy need to electrolyze the water in the air would also be massive, and probably dwarf the energy needed to actually lift off the ground.
All this is to say that, no I don't think you're right about the hydrogen. You'd be much better off trying to figure out a way in which he works like a jet engine than a rocket.
Generations is 50% off on Amazon right now (if you have prime). ;3
If you have patience and a steady hand, I'd say try to repair it. You can likely find the parts you need on Amazon and tutorial videos online. I've had to repair the R-button and control stick on my 3DS on two separate occasions. It was easier to do than I expected and, overall, much less expensive than getting a new system. The only other thing you would need is a precision screwdriver kit. I purchased this one for the job.
Well I have the New 3DS XL with a kind of grip/pad from china to prevent cramps during longer sessions. Also I am planning on substituting the C Stick with a PSP-intended Joystick cap, because the C Stick is pure cancer with slightly sweaty hands.
Sorry I only got the german amazon links, but the grip should be easy to find. Links are just so you know how they look. For N3DS XL this seems to be one of the best possible setups. Hope I could help.
How did you extract these? I'm a dev for the MHWorld Database app and were looking to extract some things like maps from the game. Does it look like this is possible?
They do indeed. Here is a guide from Tri on which buffs stack, it's mostly still accurate. Though the Purple coefficient is now 1.44 rather than 1.5.

CTRL+F "Cat"
> Is there any consensus the best skills to pass on to the leader palico when selecting 1st stringers?
Personal preference. I like 3 support cats and 2 recovery cats with a recovery as my secondary, for dem mad heals and shock traps.
> I noticed if I have two healer 1st stringers and two support then the leader stays as a "leader" class and gets healing horn and shock trap skills - can he use both?

Yoooo, was it this thread? Because if so, I'm totally the guy who made it (Oni_Tatsujin). What a wonderfully small world this is-- and I'm glad the info there is now helping people on this subreddit.

I'm primarily a LBG user, but I like using HBG as well. First up, here's Mazeron's guide (it has a wealth of info. on both LBGs and HBGs): http://www.gamefaqs.com/3ds/642342-monster-hunter-3-ultimate/faqs/66937
HBG seems to work pretty well for farming large monsters like Goldbeard, Jhens, Dire Miralis (especially using pierce or normal 3 if you are under water). The Narga X set seems heavily focused on evasion. Evasion is nice for a gunner to have, but I personally prefer skills like recoil down and reload speed, especially for HBG (test it out, see how it feels or if you like other skills better). The bad news is that Black Diablos armor (Diablos Z) is a great way to get those skills. The good news is that you will look like a badass (at least in the female armor with a different helm...). For HBG, element is not nearly as important as raw. If you have primarily used blademaster weapons, you're going to want to learn monster weakpoints as they relate to shot damage.
Other tips for transitioning to using the gun is carry some combo books and bullet combines with you. You also want to be aware of how close or far you are from the monster since different bullet types have different optimal distances for damage and those distances are shorter under water.
I know gunning can be kind of overwhelming with the different ammo types. Underwater battles also might not be the best testing ground for a new weapon type, especially versus an Elder Dragon with a ton of health. I wish you the best of luck and happy hunting!
Edit: I'll test things out later to see if I can get more info. on visual cues for how effect you're being with damage.
Level them up completely and install power barrel. as far as HBG selection, armor choice, tactics and all things bow gun in mhfu see: http://www.gamefaqs.com/psp/943356-monster-hunter-freedom-unite/faqs/56818
Teostra has very little sudden attacks that are hard to avoid. He has pretty big tells and large openings. Just practice and take advantage of those.
Additionally, Teostra will scream and charge himself (noticeable by having a red aura and sparks flying around his head). Exactly 100 seconds after the scream he will fly up into the air and then explode. You really don't want to be hit by that explosion because if it isn't going to outright one-shot you at full life it still will take a huge chunk out of your life pool.
Once he is charged he can be knocked out of his charge (thus resetting the timer until he screams again) by successfully mounting him or KO'ing him.
Personally, I've had easier times with Teostra once i opened up a tab with an online stopwatch (like this one) set the alarm to 1 minute and 25 seconds (15 seconds before the explosion) and hit on Start once he screams. This gives you plenty of time to get out of the way and maybe even ping the other players to give them the signal so they can get out of the way too. Then hit Reset once he explodes or once he gets knocked out of his charge and hit Start again on the next scream.
Sadly, we can pretty much expect the same amount of effort/thoroughness for Destiny 3 unless 2 dies. When they signed with Activision, they signed a 4 game deal.
'We already learned that Bungie's 2010 contract with Activision guarantees the delivery of four "sci-fantasy" shooter games, called Destiny. But what other details are hiding in that 27-page contract?'
https://kotaku.com/5912798/activision-bungie-contract-has-rules-about-everything-even-easter-eggs
So chances are at least pre-production of Destiny 3 will start fairly soon if not already if they stick to the 3 year dev cycle.
Even better, I made a Shagaru theme. Here's the link: Link It's my first time sharing something with Mega though so please tell me if something's wrong. Oh and feel free to use the bcstm in your own theme, I tested mine and it loops properly. If you're using CHMM2 the ogg preview doesn't work though if you manage to fix it, please tell me how or send me a copy of the file.
I haven't tried much HH myself, so can't really tell by experience.
According to the values given for P3rd (that seem to be the same for 3U as well) almost every hit form HH has from 20 to 25 KO damage.
While hammers have a KO hit that reaches to 50 KO damage, and the upswing reaches 40 KO.
The difference, however, is that HH hits faster than the hammer, so you can compensate the time a hammer would do an upswing or a golfswing by giving more hits, but again, I am not too experienced with HH to really tell the difference.
I would say hammer can KO faster than hunting horn, but it shouldn't be impossible to KO a monster with HH as many times a hammer could in one hunt. So for KOing it should be matter of practice.
KOing Arzuros is not so easy since it spends its time standing up, so the head is not easy to reach. Don't even bother with Qurupeco either.
And Great Jaggi, it would be natural to kill it before it is KO'd. :p
You will get more KOs with other kind of monsters later in the game, and you will eventually notice a difference in how quickly you KO monsters.
Have you play the previous monster hunter? While HBG is a beast itself, starting with it kinda hard imo(buying bullets get expensive on limited income)
Totally recommend reading the "heavy bowgun" section.
http://www.gamefaqs.com/3ds/642342-monster-hunter-3-ultimate/faqs/66937
Alright so gunning can be quite a bit different than blading. First of all there is a lot more you need to be wary of on each weapon. I would highly suggest reading Mazereon's Bowgun Compendium as it will teach you the basics of everything you need to know about how the different ways the weapons work. I would go into detail about how gunning works but I think Maze does a better job than I could.
I've never frowned upon anyone for using the Gold or Plessy set and focusing on getting more items. The difference would be if you wore full Gold, didn't eat for Thunder Res and went to fight Zinogre and carted repeatedly. If someone can bring some teamwork to the table I could care less if you're wearing full Vangis or are butt naked. For Status LBG you're going to want either Kettleblower or God's Archipelago. Kettle has Rapid fire of Poison, Sleep, and Para LVL1 and is better at basic stats usually, but God's had Rapid Fire of Crag LVL1s and can shot Sleep and Para LVL 2. Meaning you can alternate Sleeping, Paralyzing and KO. however some players especially HH or Hammer users will dislike being blown around the field since they'll be aiming for the head too. Usually if you are going to Status-gun, then go all out. You'll want to get as much status as you can which means Status Atk +2, and eating for Felyne Specialist.

I have it and some roars, but I won't be able to upload it for a couple hours.
Edit1: My connection is being especially bad, so this is taking a couple tries. Here's the collection of roars I have.
Edit2: And here's the effects pack you asked for.
Notes:
i tried multiple times to fix Visbubble circle for the installer file, but it seems like it always comes a bit decentrated(just move it a bit to adjust it to your monitor)
Thanks to /u/xcalibur866 for the Hot Drink idea, hope you guys like it as much as i do(also modified the text for when it's windy :p)
remember to change your launcher settings(and set whatever you want)
IMPORTANT SIDE NOTE: You have to install this font too
Pretty sure I have the cooking song on my computer. I'm at work right now though but I'll post it when I get home.

I don't think it's the exact one but figure people might want it anyway.
You only lose damage to bouncing when your sharpness is at yellow or lower, and it's an 0.6 or 0.7 modifier, depending on what weapon type and what attack.
Green sharpness is a 1.05x modifier for raw and 1x for element.
I'm not sure where you're getting those values. You might want to read up on the P3rd damage formula, 3U is mostly the same, but with the class and element dividers brought back.
The highest damage the hammer does on one hit is 90% on the golf swing. A GS level 3 regular charge is 130%

Elderdragon blood is received from Jehn Mohran, Altaeroenron (giant purple end-game dragon, fuck spelling) and Deviljho. Generally you'll get it when you hit HR 51, so don't bother focusing on that weapon and upgrade others in the meantime.
I'd suggest restarting your armour sets for HR armours. It'll be a while before you can kill HR lagiacrus' without being dominated in three hits, so go to HR Barroth and make his set and continue from there. Barroth Helm+ and whatnot. Hit up the MHWiki too, in order to see which fully upgraded weapon will help you the most later on and to see elemental weaknesses of the monsters. Also browse the weapon tree section of the wiki, it'll help you greatly in choosing weapons. Remember that a weapon with 160 raw + 30 elemental damage will be less powerful than 190 raw. There's a guide on GameFAQs for things like this and it's a lot to take in when you're a casual player.

Good luck hunting! If you need help or just want to hunt with someone I'm available, just send me a PM :)
EHP = HP/(1-DR) or = HP/(DT)
The reason for this is that a 99% damage reduction is twice as good as a 98% damage reduction despite only being a 1% change. The damage you take gets halved, and thus EHP is doubled.
The devs have tuned the forumla specifically for the purpose of making defence provide a linear increase in EHP. This can be seen here.. EHP increases by +100% of the base value for every 80 points of defence.
Edit: Some examples from other games
Diablo 3 (at least at launch) had both armor and resist provide a linear increase in EHP for each point added. However, the formula roughly went 1/(1-DR(armour)) * 1/(1-DR(resist)) so that a roughly even portion of both armour and resist provided the best EHP, resulting in a quadratic EHP curve.
Skyrim has a linear increase in DR as armor rating increased. This meant that EHP increase was not linear. To prevent players having infinite health by reaching 100% DR, armour is capped at a notably low 542. This means that at low levels, armour barely does anything.
It really depends on your playstyle, weapon and most of all, preferences. Are you in for looks or skills? Either way, Athena's Armor Set Search should be useful to you. Just put in what skills you want, and how far you are into Caravan and Guild, and it'll give you the possible combinations for the skills you want.
I had this on my old pc--I might still have some, if not all of it. Will be back soon with the verdict and/or files
Edit: FOUND IT. Here you go: http://www.filedropper.com/monsterhuntertri-windowssoundeffectsbyvortiene I've never used filedropper before so let me know if there are any problems!
/u/ShadyFigure, if you like math, or scripting, check out this Python script I just hacked together: https://repl.it/FfCR/7. If you input the right values, you can see how many hits it takes on average to kill a monster and how much damage is being dealt from the status. I might make a new post with this script since it seems more concrete than just the theoretical numbers.

Now, here are some things I've learned that I wish I knew sooner. One point I can't stress enough: Don't try to make things perfect. When you aim for perfection you'll be spending hours redoing the same parts and you'll never get it exactly like you want it. It's frustrating and not fun. Just try to enjoy drawing and not fretting over it too much, that will give you better results. I still struggle with this but I'm getting over it, and I'm better off for it.
I would recommend starting with sketching little things, often. Like things you won't worry too much how they turn out. Your lines will become more stable the more you draw so don't worry if they're really messy at first. You might try to draw lines really slowly to make lines more steady, but that will actually make them more messy. More time making the line means more time to make mistakes. You don't want to do it too fast either. You'll find a good pace eventually, don't worry.
For drawing more often, there's a subreddit of people of all skill levels drawing something subject related once a day. https://www.reddit.com/r/SketchDaily/
Drawception is fun, you get 10 minutes to draw a caption, someone captions your drawing, and so on until you get to see the completed game. Again, people of all skill levels. The misinterpretations are the fun of the game, it can get pretty silly. https://drawception.com/
The most important thing is, have fun. If you're having fun you'll draw more. If you're drawing more you'll improve more.
I put it on the Trello todo list. I'm still getting my environment together for contributing patches. Might be able to poke someone on the android dev subreddit with an S2 to run debug.
This type of joycon has been my savior
They don't fit in my Switch case, but if I'm just playing around the house they make play sessions so much more bearable on my hands.
Why not buy it from amazon? It's almost half the price. I guess it doesn't matter now, I'm just curious.
