There are versions of UAE for Android, so you can either play it on your phone or on a dedicated Android emulation handheld which would be much cheaper than a Steam Deck. Cloanto sells a version of Amiga Forever with the kickstart ROMs and workbench disks on the Play Store to use with emulators.

An even cheaper option ($2) if you have an Android device is to buy Amiga Forever Essentials. They get extracted to a folder on the filesystem, then you could just hook your phone up to your PC and copy the ROMs off.

A google search can find them for you, but the roms are legally sold online by the current copyright holder. If you want just the essential rom files cheaply and legally I recommend purchasing the Amiga Forever Essentials app for like $2. Gets you the 1.3 & 3.1 kickstart roms for the A500 and A1200.

That's what I wanted to say. Today WinUAE defaults to the quick start tab, and if you have a complete set of Kickstart ROMs (like you can buy from Cloanto) you can emulate basically all the commodore era Amigas with just a few clicks.

You can also buy a small subset of ROMs from Cloanto in Google's play store for cheap, meant to make it easier to emulate on android... I think it's A500, A600 and A1200 ROMs, then extract those files from your phone and put them in WinUAE's kickstart folder.

It was anyway A500 and A1200 most games were developed for.

I'm not suggesting you get them from there, you already have them. Like you my ROMs come from my real Amigas.

I'm saying that you might suggest other people could get them from there. It is the official channel, after all.

It doesn't matter, you're only using the ROMs from the disk, not the emulator.

There is even an Amiga Forever Essentials which contains just the OS and a few demos, and while aimed at Android users, will work perfectly well on other platforms.

(You know that the Amiga Forever disk is a Linux distro in its own right, don't you?)

few days late, but you can get a feel for the workflow you can just run ProTracker on your computer.

if you want to try OctaMED, you can get a legal copy of AmigaOS and such for $2 and just copy it to your computer to run in an emulator, provided you have some sort of Android device laying around. OctaMED v4 is shareware, so that parts pretty easy. as a bonus for going that route, WinUAE actually emulates MIDI and sampler carts, both of which work perfectly with med. the MIDI timing is a bit inconsistent, even more than a real Amiga, but the sampler is pretty convenient (it runs on microphone inputs, but you can run things into it with stereo mix if you don't have your turntable hooked up to your computer)

PT and MED are actually pretty simple programs, you just have to force yourself to actually use them until they click. same as any other piece of gear.

If you DON'T want to pay any money, you can always find links on Google (for obvious reasons, we can't post direct links here to pirated software, but I would say the if you're going to go fishing today, the KOD seems like a good catch).

I would highly recommend if you are afraid of downloading a virus file to get a better virus scan than Windows Defender. I use BitDefender which is pretty good, but it changes on what the best is year by year.
